About this listing

Our warm, inviting family home is located in a safe, quiet neighborhood in the heart of Silicon Valley. It is just a 1/2 mile from a major chain grocery and drug store, Starbucks, several restaurants (Subway, Chinese & Pizza), a bank and bagel shop and a few miles from Downtown Mountain View (Castro Street) and Downtown Los Altos. We have been Airbnb hosts for over 5 years and "SuperHosts" when we're actively hosting.

The space

(in a single room w/ shared bathroom)

This space is particularly ideal for a young gal branching out on her own (read: internship or moving to the area). As parents to "20-somethings", we offer a safe, comfortable place to stay - with the perks of being on your own but the concern and assistance afforded our own children (if needed). :)

We live in a safe, quiet neighborhood with plenty of parking. We're a pleasant 1/2 mile walk to a strip mall with a chain grocery and drug store, Starbuck's, Tea shop, several restaurants (Chinese, Pizza, Subway), Wells Fargo Bank and a Bagel shop.

Mountain View is in the heart of the Silicon Valley - home to the #1 search engine company (whose name gets removed from this description) and host to many start-up accelerators.

By car, we are just 15 -20 min no. of the San Jose Airport, 45 min no. of Santa Cruz Beach/Boardwalk, 50 min so. of San Francisco City and 15 minutes so. of Stanford University.

Guest access

You will have your own private bedroom and shared use of the guest bath (though you have first dibs), kitchen and back yard (complete with lounge chairs and outdoor dining). WIFI thoughout. We also have an "Airbnb bike" which you may use if you wish.

Interaction with guests

We chat with our guests as much or as little as they wish. ;) We're here to offer support, suggestions, and help if needed.

This is my first time to use Airbnb to have a long stay. I'm really lucky to live in Deb's warm house. Her house is kept quite clean and tidy. And according to my friends living in the local, they also said that the security of this area is also quite safe, it let me felt so comfortable and heart-easing. Deb is a great host, she is so sweet, generous, and very easy to get along. I also like her family John, and four adorable cats. If there is a chance to come here again, I still would like to live in Deb's house.

I loved staying with Deb and her family. From the very first minute, they made me feel really welcome in their home and I enjoyed having the experience of living with a open, warm-hearted, kind and fun American family a lot. Even as a non-cat-lover, I also really liked having the four cats around as they made the place feel even more homey and it is just impossible not to like them. Furthermore, everything is very clean and the room is really cozy. Deb, John and Tyler were also really helpful when I had any questions or needed some recommendations. And Deb makes amazing brownies! :) Overall, I highly recommend this place - I had a great time! Thanks for everything Deb and I hope to see you all soon again! :)

Deb was very gracious and outgoing. The location was perfect for my vacation; close to restaurants, movies, SF, and in a great neighborhood. Thanks to Deb, her family and felines!

Deb is a vivacious presence happy to share her home. The day I arrived the temperature was over 100 F and the house doesn't have air conditioning but with a portable fan on me at night it was doable and temps dropped after that. The room is small but comfortable and well appointed. I particularly appreciated the little desk that came in handy to do some work. Beware if you're over 5'8" tall and like to sleep on your back: the bed isn't made for tall girls. The neighborhood is quiet and with the bedroom window opening to the back yard it is a peaceful place to relax. No cookies this time, too hot for backing.

Hopefully the cool salad served up for dinner and the bouquet of roses offered up in friendship helped offset some of your difficulties. :) Mt V has some of the best weather in the world, except for the approx 10 days a year when it gets really hot (it was actually only 85 that day, but still hot for us!). Fortunately we do have AC on the living/dining/kitchen side of the house (as most in MV don't have any!), and it cooled off after that one day. Luckily you are one of the most self-sufficient travelers I've ever seen. I feel thankful that you didn't have to break out the egg shell mattress! :)

Deb and John (and their four cats :) ) are amazing hosts. I loved staying with them, as they really cared a lot about my well-being. They made me feel so comfortable in their house, that it was hard to leave thier place in the end of my stay. After just a couple days I almost felt like home. Both of them are just warm-hearted, open-minded and funny personalities. I liked staying with an American family, they made me get to know some real American delicacies :D E.g. delicious s'mores and pancakes :) Deb is an amazing cook and baker. John as well! He makes the best pizza! So all in all, this place is just perfect for everyone who likes staying in a more familiar, rather than a anonymous atmosphere. The room, kitchen, bathroom - Everything is clean! The room is not too big, but very cozy. I enjoyed my stay a lot, I can just recommend this place to everyone - it is worth it's price! And I really hope to see Deb and John again soon ! :) Thanks again for everything!

How kind of you to say all that, but really it was our pleasure. All the best for the rest of your time here. Oh, and I realized that the surprise gift I ordered for you did not come before your departure - so there's that to look forward to as well. ;)

It was such a pleasure getting to know you. Thanks for being such a generous, fun, and helpful guest. It was like having an old friend or family member here. All the best finishing up your dissertation and deciding what to do after you get your PhD. I miss you already, too. :)

55 years young. :) Always wanting to explore - places, foods, cultures, etc. - keeps me that way.
Married. Twin and mother of grown twins (who went to UC Davis and UC Santa Cruz) .

Best times of my life: semester abroad, junior year in college plus backpacking trip around Europe after that and traveling alone for a month in Ecuador for my 50th birthday.

To date I have been to 57 out of the 100 places on the Travel List Challenge App. China was my favorite because it was done on a whim and was so different than anything I had ever experienced before. Next 5 places I want to visit: Costa Rica, Panama, Alaska, Russia, Japan and Africa.

My kids will tell you I "made" them go to Cuernavaca, Mexico for 3 week Spanish immersion programs, twice (the summers before their 7th and 11th grades). I am hoping that someday they will appreciate it... :) Both times we had wonderful host families that we still stay in touch with on (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN). It would make me so happy if they would stay with me so I could return the hospitality... Still working on that. :)

With my "kids" off on their own - I really enjoy hosting young adults.
