Our Casa is in the High Desert area of sagebrush, rock outcroppings and ancient junipers (like large Bonsai trees)
where in winter we have much less snow and it is warmer than south and west Bend.Less shade and more sun.
Watch the weather fronts move over the Cascades. Oh, and a
tipi is set-up in the warmer months.
A feeling of privacy exists on our 5 acres where you can frequently see deer below; or, at the birdfeeders, raptors catching the thermals and migratory birds feed and water outside the windows.
Being on a butte with four main roads below means many people enjoy the routes to bicycle and get their burn coming up and
racing down again. Two routes pass over the nearby Deschutes
River with fishing, hiking trails, kyaking and swimming available.
Smith Rocks State Park (world class) climbing and hiking area
is fourteen miles north of us, the Redmond airport, easy access to Highway 20 to Sisters, OR, the wilderness area of the Badlands is east, not far away, and the north end shopping malls
of Bend to our south.

We enjoyed our stay here! The house was beautiful and had lots of character. The room was very comfortable and had amazing views plus a very large luxurious bathroom. We had a private entrance and could have been as private as we wanted but we enjoyed sharing a roof top sunset after a fresh rain with Wayne and Sonnie (and Ginger the dog) who were very kind and friendly hosts. As other guests have noted we had phenomenal home made breakfasts both mornings we were there. As for location, from downtown Bend it was only about a 10-15 minute drive on the highway before the turn off into the hills where the house was set. We enjoyed the nice big neighborhood roads with awesome views for a morning jog as well. We we recommend a stay here!
We really enjoyed our time in Bend, due in large part to Wayne and Sonnie's hospitality and their beautiful home. It was a treat to stay in a home as unique as theirs and to see Wayne's studio. The home is about 15 minutes outside of downtown Bend, but we valued this as it afforded more quiet and serenity, and of course the breathtaking from the cliff. Wayne and Sonnie were great hosts, and Wayne makes a fabulous breakfast. Everything was as described (or better) as on the page and in photos. If we return to Bend, their home will be our first choice of where to stay.
The host was fantastic. Cooked an incredible breakfast feast.
The views of the area were spectacular as well.
The house is located about 20 minutes outside of Bend, which is a bit of a drive. but the views and location are beautiful. It's a great place to relax and recoup and you should plan time to take a bath in the amazing bath tub.
Some Air BnB hosts like to just tell you where to find the key and don't interact much. Wayne likes to personally greet all his guests and give them the full tour.
He also makes homemade cooked breakfasts which are amazing. If you stay here, you should plan to stick around for breakfast.
When we travel we look for three things, location, safety, and comfort, Santa Fe Pueblo provided all three. The house is located on top of a cliff, in a quite community with an awesome view of the valley and mountain range. This location is close enough to Bend and other area to explore without having to drive long distances. Wayne and Sonnies were great host. Each morning Wayne provided us with a breakfast fit for a king. Wayne also has vast knowledge of the area and informational guides for the quest to use.
Thanks Wayne & Sonnie for a friendly stay. We enjoyed your hospitality and warmth. The views of the snow capped volcanoes from your pueblo were outstanding. Bend is always a great place to visit and meeting you guys made it better. BTW, thanks for those blueberry pancakes in the morning to start our day. They really hit the spot. So now we know someone in Bend in the future and plan to stop by the next time we are in town.
My three-night mini-retreat at the "Pueblo on a Cliff " was very relaxing and a positive experience. On our arrival, Wayne introduced us to all amenities "as advertised" plus more than expected. The first night we took in the beautiful patio views, night skies, marvelous shower, Jacuzzi tub and spacious room. The clean room/bath were filled with quality furnishing with attention to detail and comfort at every turn. The bed was on the soft side for my personal taste, but having a private room entrance from the patios and parking, area, plus an adjoining door into the main house made up for it. The unpolluted night sky was phenomenal.
The theme of Southwest fit perfectly on this rim rock perch surrounded by juniper and sage. Wayne and Sonnie built this home with vision and with Wayne's masterful stonework artistry. The house fireplace and fountain are stunning with native art decoration throughout. The outdoor paths, patios, eclectic statuary entrance and inviting nooks are inspiring for bird watching, deer and jackrabbit siting. The interior room rental was occupied during our stay and did not feel crowded or intrusive.
Being close to Bend and Sisters allowed us to spend time in both places and access day- hikes in the surrounding area. The drive into Bend is a cinch for enjoying dinner, music and shopping. The full breakfasts were healthy and delicious with many options: toasted pecan waffles, eggs with bacon, cooked cereal, etc. A generous bowl of fresh cut up fruit, English muffins, toast and quality jams were standard. I thoroughly enjoyed the friendly laid-back attitudes of our hosts.
I would highly recommend this AirBnB to anyone who wants to enjoy the amenities of Bend and the rich nature of the area. I made reservations for to return next month. It’s a gem.
