Welcome to my place!

Brief "Frequently asked questions":
* Late bookings are OK
* After flying in to Lanzarote airport (ACE), you take two short buses, and walk for 5 minutes - all together in under an hour
* ...or rent a car at the airport: ~13€ per day with the company we have experiences with, but you may go without one. (We do.)
* The whole island is about 20x40km, and this slightly northern residence is a great base for enjoying & exploring.
* Mala village, and nearby Guatiza and Arrieta, have shops and restaurants. You may choose to reach or stay out of tourist resorts.
* You're able to prepare your own food: there is a fully equipped kitchen + grill plate on terrace.
* There is Wifi internet
* "The surreal scenery here really is out of this world, so much so that Apollo 13 astronauts studied photos of this terrain to prepare themselves for their moon landing mission."
* The house is a 5 minute desert walk to the coast, or a 30 minute walk to the beach.
* Late check-ins are not a problem.
* Sometimes, the residents stay in the house. Please ask if you would be sharing the house with the residents or not, if that is a concern for you!

Situated on the semi-arid edge of Mala, a quiet Canarian village, my modest tower is, primarily, a creative-escape residence for a group of young, futurist information technology engineers and researchers. We enjoy life, cook & barbecue daily meals, and explore the island.

We are often away from them island, and it this case, you may have the house to yourself. Otherwise we may share the stay, or talk to you about it. Please enquire.

So - chill out on our top-floor, sun-lit ocean view terrace; head outdoors and hike in any direction, pass the cactus fields: a few minutes westwards is a hill range great for hiking, or eastwards to the seaside, with breathtaking volcanic features.

The amazing beach is a fresh 30 minute, very picturesque landscape walk (or 5 min drive) straight before Arrieta village, across the desert.
This is a local-favorite - one of the best beaches on the island, but it is never crowded.
Some people surf & body surf here on windy days.
Leaning to the beach are two restaurants and a well-stocked shop opened daily until 9PM - good for supplies every few days.

Inside Mala village, there is a small shop nearby for basics. If you consider staying for longer, I recommend stocking up in Eurospar on the way to the island capital (10km), or Roper, a wonderful local deli well worth the visit. (Both are easily accessible by public bus - 1.5€ fare).
There is also a pharmacy and two simple bars-restaurants, serving mostly locals. The neighbouring villages (Arrieta and Guatiza, 5km) both have ATMs, and a selection of renowned restaurants, a post office, etc.

The bus stop is a short walk from the house (and can take you aywhere on Lanzarote).

Tips:
* The house includes one mountain bike, and you may rent more in the nearby village (~10€ per day).
* I can suggest a popular and tried out car rental company on the island; daily fees are usually about 13€.
* For everyone with smartphones - I advise you to get a Yoigo 3G data sim card. It is ~15€ and easy to set up at their office next to the main Arrecife bus station. This will help you with navigating the island, and live-tweet pictures of your amazing stay. ;-)

Have a great day, and ask away if you have any more questions.

  • David's place is ok for staying if you're on budget and not very picky. David was not able to be in Lanzarote at time we were supposed to arrive and the bad thing is that communication was really poor - sometimes it took very long for him to reply: before flight he didn't even reply about getting into the house and did it only when I send one more message. When you have no internet and next night you're supposed to sleep in place you rented and have no idea how to get in is not the best feeling. Although I received response in last moments.
    Talking about the place it was really untidy and dirty - it looks so a little bit in the pictures, but it was much worse when we arrived. And the worst thing was that even bed was quite dirty - I don't really mind place being dirty, but sleeping in such bed doesn't feel very good. Besides that house is really good location if you're with a car and we really enjoyed terrace on the roof.
    So all in all it would be nice place to stay if it would be cleaner and communication of host would be faster.

  • Great if you're looking for an affordable place close to the sea in a non-touristic area if you're not too picky. Toilet didn't flush, there was no proper door to the bathroom and there were ants all over the bedroom but if you're ok with these kinds of things David's place offers an affordable place to sleep and cook with a nice terrace with ocean view. We stayed for 10 days while he was out of town. It is possible to stay whith him even if he is there, too. Everybody should decide for themselves if they are comfortable with that. David offered lots of useful information, although we only found out some stuff after we had booked or even after our arrival (cockroaches in the bottom floor, internet wasn''t working). We didn't really mind, although it would have been nice to know in advance.

    We had a great time, especially with the sea view-terrace :)

  • My girlfriend and I spent Easter at David's place. Basic comforts
    but if you are looking for a relaxed holidays then this is the
    place to go to. The house was located in a perfect spot for us, just nice and quiet, away from the touristic areas.

    The roof terrace was a must, in the morning for timeless breakfasts
    and at night sharing food and drinks with David. Interesting talks
    were ensured with him :)

  • David is a very friendly and funny host with interesting ideas and lifestyle. It was great to spend time with him at his terrace or in his living room, drinking beer, talking, eating or watching movies! Thank you!

  • a special host with a basic house on a location perfect for us: we could make a great walk on the coast and were far from everything except the bus, which we used to discover the north. It's not the cleanest place we ever visited, David, but we sure enjoyed meeting and sharing ideas.

  • Casa NADA RECOMENDABLE!!! David nos mintió desde el primer momento..
    Vive allí y se quedó los cuatro dias!! (cosa que no nos habia dicho)
    Desorden, suciedad y sobre todo FALTA DE SERIEDAD ABSOLUTA.

  • David is a very warmhearted guy with lots of good intentions for the world and people that he meets. He loves sports and he would like to take you on an excursion of the island or on a sailing trip if you like.
    He loves cooking on a grill and we shared nice meals and interessting discussions together. :-)

  • David is a kind host. He is beginning to rent his apartment in Lanzarote that is located in a beautiful place. The house has large bedrooms, a terrace and a tiny bathroom, but it is enough for enjoying the wonderful weather and stunning landscape of the northern part of the island.

About
Hey! I am a technologist originally from Slovenia, now living in the north of Lanzarote, Islas Canarias. I enjoy & work in composing music, computer science & AI research, DIY/electronics, theoretical philosophy - hermeneutics - logic, mountain biking - sailing - mountaineering, cooking - gastronomy - wines. My music taste spans from Arnold Schoenberg, the post-minimalists, to Sonic Youth and The Liars; my favourite film directors include David Lynch and Dario Argento. The work I do allows me freedom from having to stay at any place at any given time, and I try to encourage myself to keep moving! This means I am a flexible Airbnb host - you may choose to have my house to yourself, or share the stay - perhaps cooking meals together, or going on trips. If you have any questions, don't worry about contacting me, and I will do my best to be responsive. I will respond in English, but can try to understand you in Deutsch or Espagnol. Have a great day!
