Great World Cup experience, Beth was a great host and Vila Madelena neighborhood was the right choice for us to experience the WC.
Beth place is in the quiet zone of Vila Madelena and in a short walk you can get in the bar zone, also the metro green line it's only five minutes walking.
We actually stayed in the Artists studio, but all the flats are wonderful and are located around the garden. Beth is truly incredible, genuinely helpful, and always ready to go the extra length to make sure all will go well, fix any problem etc.
Staying in this Oasis of trees and birds was an incredible experience: we will come back here, for sure. It transformed Sao Paulo into a welcoming city: Vila Madalena is the best district to be in (everything is there, best bars, restaurants, music, people, and it's close to everything in many ways). But back to Beth and her "colony" : go there, ready yourself for the sojourn of a lifetime. If you are planning to stay one night or 5 months, just one place to go, Beth's place (1 of the three flats), THis is such a unique place, we carry it within us now, and will come back in 18 months time, If you do not like dogs (we love them, and the three dogs, Canu, Zucca and Haleluia are true gems, loving and protective, they immediately adopt you and know you 're in, I do not know how, but they sense who is a friend or not. Even if traumatized by dogs,) those 3 will make you change your mind.
Here we are, so sad to leave. We shall be back, where else would we go? in a cold and sterile hostel? in an expensive hotel, with a tiny room? in a concrete bunker? No, we'll stay at Beth's of course. and Dance the samba around the fire.... (this is optional of course!)
Marion and Hugo (Edinburgh and Cambridge)
First the good parts: the host is extremely nice, friendly and welcoming. there is food in the fridge, and she does try to answer any and all complaints: the toilet was leaking, we mentioned it and the next day a plumber was there... the toilet kept on leaking, we lived with it.
The location is great.
but the rooms are damp, dark, worse for the wear.
I have seen better bedding in grad housing.
The bathroom is jerry-rigged, the shower offers a trickle of hot water (from a heater in the shower head with live wires leading to it)!.
As mentioned by another reviewer, the very nice dog have the run of the place. so this is a no-no if you are allergic, or simply if dog barking at 2 AM awakens you.
Its bohemian, but not chic: run down and cheap.
Great for the relation, mediocre and over priced for the lodging.
Beth house is a great journey for us. Not only because of the garden, dogs and hammocks but because of her spirit. Beth becomes your friend and it is impossible to not pass by her door to have a laugh or a good talk about anything. She is extremely sharing, giving and full of little surprises that touches our hearts. Sometimes avocado or banana ( fresh just from the tree) are left for us in the kitchen.
This house is warm and alive experience. You will always meeting new people who also live here or even friends of Beth. But at the same time having a privacy! This is a special community, full of JOY and it will be very difficult to leave.
Beth's flat is a little paradise in Sao Paulo. Lots of trees, clean air, lovely company.. The house is very nice and spacious, with various places to have the breakfast in the morning: either outside in the terrace, in the garden, among the trees..
The area Vila Madalena is also very nice, with lots of art and culture and away from the busy traffic of Sao Paulo.
I strongly recommend it..
Beth is a very nice and welcoming person, she offers a small loft that is within her garden, and that really has a great potential. However, to our opinion, this place is largely over-rated. The loft is small, far from "fresh" (old painting, furnitures in bad shape etc), and questionnably clean: although the place had been cleaned prior to our arrival, the dogs were used to run free through it and often stay in there when there is noone occupying it. Moreover, the pictures from the website do not show the actual situation, where the red cough and outside table have disappeared. We recomend that the place be re-furbished and renovated, or the prices seriously lowered.

About the Host, Beth
