The Space

Hi! We are Megan and Brandon! We're a couple of working jazz musicians offering you one of our two spare bedrooms in our funky, but down-to-Earth 2,000 sq ft, 3 bedroom, 1 bathroom traditional New Orleans shotgun-style home in the St. Roch (pronounced "Saint Rock") neighborhood.

We offer our extra bicycles and individual bike locks to our guests as a courtesy. They are your typical street cruisers - nothing fancy, but they work!

Your bedroom is a spacious walk-through room in our turn-of-the-century shot-gun home. It features an antique 1920's arts and crafts style bed (that belonged to Megan's great-grandmother), a nightstand with drawers, an antique carved-wood chair, a matching vanity with mirrors and a large dressing mirror.

A shot-gun house is a family-style home that has no hallways - the rooms are the halls. Please see our photos for a lay-out drawing. Your room has doors, and you will have privacy, but the house is a walk-through, so if total privacy is an issue, this may not be the best house for you.

We live in the St Roch neighborhood - an up-and-coming area less than a 10 minute walk to the French Quarter and half a block from the Marigny (pronounced MARY-knee), with the Bywater neighborhood just a half mile away. A lot of local artists, musicians and bohemian-types live nearby as well as old New Orleans Creole families. The neighborhood is a true New Orleans working-class neighborhood.

Our no-frills house features all the comforts of home including:

- WIFI INTERNET - free!!

- BICYCLES - You can use our spare bikes and locks! Free!! (Usually costs $20/day to rent each bike at a local company - so this is a great added perk!)

- TRANSPORTATION - While we are very close to anything you might want to walk to, we are also half a block to the bus stop and we can sometimes give you a ride if you need one!

- CENTRAL HEAT AND AIR CONDITIONING - this is a big deal around New Orleans. Lots of houses have window units that are full of mold and simply do not do the trick on super hot days. Our house is always temperature perfect inside!

- A FULLY EQUIPPED KITCHEN - toaster, microwave, coffee maker, french press, gas stove and oven, dishes, etc. if you want to make dinner instead of going out! We also have a full selection of spices and things for your cooking needs.

- LAUNDRY ROOM & SUPPLIES - soap, iron, ironing board, etc. (Help yourself - its there for your use! No extra charge, so you don't have to worry about lugging your laundry around with a pocket full of quarters!)

- ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM - including a TV (not LCD, but it works fine), VCR, DVD, and a record player!

- SECURE PARKING - gated and locked private parking alongside the house large enough for a full sized bus!

- LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION! All this within walking distance to the French Quarter (about a 10 minute walk away), Frenchmen Street (5 minute walk), The Marigny (half a block), Bywater (six blocks) and local nightlife hotspots on St Claude (half a block!).

- HOSTS WITH THE MOSTS - Two very friendly and knowledgeable hosts (if I do say so myself.. ahem.. but check out our reviews! )

Guest Access

Guests will have access to the whole house, yard and everything. We treat our guests like long-lost friends.

Interaction with Guests

We will interact with our guests as much or as little as they want. We try to respond according to the level of interaction desired by the guest. We are typically very busy, but are always available for questions and advice about where to go in the city.

The Neighborhood

Our neighborhood is down to earth, friendly, non-pretentious and genuine. It is not fancy or imposing in the least. As a working class neighborhood, you can expect to get to know your neighbors and people going down the street.

Getting around

New Orleans is a very walkable town since it is very flat. We offer bikes to our guests, as well, and there is a bus stop half a block away for longer trips in the city.

  • Megan and Brandon were lovely, very friendly and had lots of great tips about things to do and (website hidden) and Wifi were great and the ceiling fan provided great ventilation. And Megan was kind enough to post my phone charger to my home address after I left it there.
The close proximity to public transport, convenience store (Walgreens) and easy walking distance to the French Quarter made this a great location. Even so, it's still a good idea to walk in pairs at night in New Orleans, or catch a cab. Thanks guys!

  • Megan and Brandon are both lovely hosts, and the room and location was just what we were looking for. Megan gave us loads of pointers with things to do in New Orleans and even went out her way to get us umbrellas when it was raining!

Can't say anything negative :) thanks again!!

  • Megan & Brandon were the best! They made our first experience with Air BnB a very positive one! They were friendly, inviting, and answered all of our questions! They also had a ton of hilarious stories to share. We felt right at home! Thank you Megan and Brandon!

  • Megan made us feel at ease as soon as we got there. She is a character and has some hilarious stories. Brandon was also super accommodating, laid back and cool. Both had great recommendations on what places to go, said what tourist traps to avoid. We were wondering about what kind of privacy the shotgun house would offer, but it offered us a chance to get to know everyone better and privacy when we needed it. Whenever they were eating or drinking something in the kitchen, they always offered us some as if we were family. Having the bikes was a huge benefit for getting around New Orleans. We can't wait to come back and stay with them again. Hopefully they can come to the Bay Area to visit.

  • Our stay with Megan and Brandon was just the cure for our previous nights in the French quarter. Our trip to NOLA truly wouldn't have been complete without seeing a real home and their awesome neighborhood. The bikes were also a must. They were in great shape, easy to ride (matched the color of my shoes) and totally changed how we experienced the city. More than anything, Megan and Brandon felt like friends as soon as we stepped in the front door. Their house was friendly and relaxing, and the bed was comfortable. We should also mention that living "shotgun" was just fine, so go ahead and book already!

  • Megan and Brandon were wonderful hosts. Our room looked just like the photos -- clean and comfortable, and the various guidebooks left on our dresser were so thoughtful, and incredibly helpful in navigating the city. Megan and Brandon are both very friendly, and their recommendations of places to see and things to eat turned out to be the best parts of the trip. We really felt like we saw New Orleans like locals.

  • Staying with Brandon and Megan was the best airb&b experience I've had. They're fantastic hosts. They made me feel super welcome and super included and were always super helpful. I thought I was gonna have a hard time with the shotgun style of the home where my room needs to be walked through in order to get to other rooms in the house but it wasn't a big deal at all. Plus, the other guests they had at the same time were really wonderful, which it made the overall experience of that much more positive. I LOVED that they have bikes!! Having a bike available to use any time was SOOO great. NOLA is very bikeable so I did all of my sightseeing on that thing, and the location of the house is great (though you have to be vigilant if you're a single girl like me traveling on your own). And lastly, what was really great was that I could use the kitchen all the time. I'm a vegetarian and found that the easiest way to eat in NOLA is to make my own food! haha but really, I went to the store and was able to store the food for my week in their fridge and cook all the time. It was so nice to have that. I highly recommend Megan and Brandon as hosts, they made my experience truly awesome.

Musicians and Online Auctioneers!
Hi! We are Megan Harris and Brandon Brunious! We live in New Orleans, though Megan is originally from a little town in Texas. We are both musicians who play regularly in the city. Brandon, who is a born and raised New Orleanian, plays the upright and electric bass, guitar, trumpet and sousaphone. Megan plays the trumpet and accordion. Megan currently plays with The Pair-a-Dice Tumblers, Ninth Ward Marching Band, and the Good Children Marching Band. She has toured with Izzy Cox and Hank Williams 3, played with Billy Pittman and Jimmy Vaughn and has shared the bill with The Legendary Shack Shakers, Michael Graves from The Misfits, Mr. Lewis and the Funeral Five, Charlie Louvin of the Louvin Brothers, and many more. Brandon plays with The Some Like It Hot Jazz Band, Dana Abbott, New Orleans Rhythm Devils, Black Dragons, The Pair-a-Dice Tumblers and the Ninth Ward Marching Band. He has played with hundreds of bands in the New Orleans area since he started playing over twenty years ago. He has played Jazz Fest more than fourteen times with his father, former Preservation Hall band leader and world-famous trumpet player Wendell Brunious. Some of our favorite things include: Steve Martin movies, R. Crumb comics, 1930's jazz standards, Frank Zappa, Nikola Tesla, vintage RVs, and found art.
