Your accommodation is an airy private room with separate bathroom in a high set house with stunning views over the forest, creek and ocean. Just 5 mins drive to uncrowded pristine beaches, private bush walking on the property & 90 mins from the Reef.
Your room has a comfortable queen size bed, a private bathroom, ceiling fan for warm nights and plenty of storage and hanging space. It is an ideal room for a couple or single person. A light breakfast is included and accommodation for additional people is available on the property at $30/person per night.
Besides your own room, you will have access to your own private bathroom, all lounge, deck and kitchen areas (with own refrigerator space) and bush walking on the acreage. There is also a home theatre with a massive DVD collection! You can bush walk on and from our property, so bring good shoes and your camera as there's plenty of wildlife in the area.
Your stay can be as private or as congenial as you wish. Both myself and my partner Chrystine lead busy lives, but there will usually be someone close at hand to chat with and to help you enjoy your stay.
Agnes Water and The Town of 1770 are Queensland's best kept secret. Boasting Australia's best climate with 300 days of sunshine a year and daytime temperatures of 22-32C year round. Agnes has the most northerly surfing beaches on the east coast of Australia, giving us consistent surf with water warmer than Noosa! And all without crowds! The Great Barrier Reef is a 90 min boat ride away and the townships of both Agnes Water and Town of 1770 are surrounded by beautiful National Parks. To see what this area offers, have look at our photos, (there are many photos for our listing, all taken by Chrys and myself) and if you'd like to see more, you can check out my web (email hidden)
IMPORTANT NOTE FOR REEF TRAVELERS
Thanks to the good people at Lady Musgrave Cruises, we have easy travel to the Great Barrier Reef from The Town of 1770 (10mins drive from our property). Many of our AIRBNB guests book this reef adventure and all have an amazing experience and fantastic day exploring what the reef has to offer. Having snorkeled this area ourselves we always recommend the trip.
HOWEVER, we also suggest booking with us for a minimum of 3 nights if your schedule will permit if you are doing a reef trip.
The first reason for doing this is that most of our guests reach us late in the afternoon after a long drive and there is little chance or inclination for sight seeing. The next day you'll be off to the reef, (pre booking strongly advised), which is a full day with little chance of fitting anything else in. And after your second night, you'll likely be wanting to continue your travels early the next day, leaving no time and possibly missing a once in a lifetime opportunity to explore our fabulous area!
An extra day will open up the area to you for exploring the deserted beaches, national parks, abundant wildlife, great surf etc. With an extra day you'll also have access to a Larc experience, scenic flights, surfing and stand up paddle board lessons, exploring our amazing creek system by kayak and some time to just chill perhaps ;-)
Another important reason for booking an additional night is that the trip to the reef is occasionally cancelled due to ocean conditions. If you're booked in for an extra night, you will have the option of rescheduling your trip for the next day and won't have to miss out on your reef experience.
50% of our "2 night guests" choose to extend, which we are pleased to do if the room is not booked, but we have had to disappoint several people at busy times.
Anyway, to get the most out of your trip to Agnes / 1770, please consider our comments above and stay an extra night or two if you can.
There is undercover parking on our property but if you want to leave your car behind or you have no transport, there are bicycles here for you to use at no charge. If you arrive without a vehicle and are not keen on cycling, dropping you into town or at the beach is usually no problem. Vehicle hire is locally available too.
If you're flying into Bundaberg (the most convenient commercial airport to Agnes Water), we can arrange free transfers on Thursdays and Fridays. For other days there is bus transport available or simply take the train to Mirium Vale and we'll pick you up!
If you choose to stay for 4 days or more we have something very special to offer you!!
A choice of three holiday adventures absolutely free!
You can choose a 4WD adventure into the nearby National Park to explore deserted tracks and beaches... or..
a private standup paddle board lesson and session for 1 or 2 people on the beautiful ocean waters of Roundhill Creek at The Town of 1770. Your third choice is pretty special too. Carl is a professional photographer so also on offer, free of charge for a 4 night stay and over, a two hour private photography tutorial to develop your own photographic skills! (Carl has many private students and the cost for this is normally $160)
We also have surfboards and boogie boards for your use at no extra cost.
Guests will be able to access all areas of the house, verandas and the surrounding bush for walks. There is limited access to WiFi in the house, (limited to e-mail only). For greater internet access there is free WiFi 5mins away at the local library.
Interaction with Guests
Your stay can be as private or congenial as you wish. We're a friendly lot here but if you seek solitude it's here for you.
Please read more about the neighborhood in "The Space" section above.
We are fortunate enough to enjoy the solitude of living on a country acreage whilst being minutes only from uncrowded beaches and a small township. Agnes Water now boasts a brand new supermarket (opened Oct 14, 2014), so there are now many more choices of produce and goods.
There is no public transport in the area apart from a taxi service, so it'll be much more convenient for you if you have your own transport. However if you do arrive without a vehicle, we're happy to pick you up from your bus transport which arrives in Agnes Water at 7pm each day and we can usually get you to where you want to go most days as we're only minutes from all area attractions. We also have bicycles for you to use to explore the area, so you can take a leisurely peddle to the beach and township, (about 15mins by bike). No additional cost for use of the bicycles.
Other Things to Note
As well as the private double room for 1 or 2, up to 3 additional guests can be accommodated if you have a larger group of people. There is also plenty of space for additional guests to park a caravan, (power available), or pitch a tent.
Whilst living in a fun area, our house is definitely not a party destination. There are a couple of great pubs close by and Carl is always up for a beer on the veranda with new friends, but if you like to party hard, best you go to The Gold Coast ;-)
If you are traveling with a dog then he or she will be most welcome, as we have a friendly dog in residence. However not all of the property is fenced so your pets security will be your responsibility.
We have just had the most wonderful weekend! The room was clean and comfortable- we slept like logs! There were plenty of breakfast options to choose from. Carl was a fabulous host! So welcoming. Our experience was made that much better because of Carl's recommendations of the local haunts! We will definitely be back!! Thank you :)
Carl is a super host. It is easy to feel at home at his place. As soon as we got there we knew we were going to have a good time. He helped us discover the area and gave us pertinent information about Australia and where we were going. Magnificent view from his deck and great location if you like the nature and quietness. If you like to cook this is a perfect place for it as he has all utilities you could imagine. Wish you get to stay here!
Carl is a wonderful host. Very relaxed and helpful. We enjoyed the interresting talks with him. Bindy, the dog, is very friendly. We felt like being at home! The room, house and the veranda with its perfect view were great. A wonderful place for having some calm days at the beach or snorkling at the reef.
Thank you, Carl!
We enjoyed our stay with Carl in Agnes Water. It is a magical spot with a terrific view from the balcony of both Round Hill Creek and the ocean. The perfect place to enjoy a cold beer at sunset. Carl is a wonderful host. He couldn't have been more welcoming or helpful. If you get a chance, take advantage of the paddle boarding lesson he offers. It is a lot of fun and Seventeen Seventy is a stunning location. If you want to see kangaroos and wallabies, get Carl to take you on the wallaby walk. It is amazing and you are pretty much guaranteed to get some terrific pics. We also enjoyed making friends with Bindi the Border Collie, who is the sweetest dog in the world.
Carl's place is simply amazing! You are not only paying for beautiful accommodation and the location, but you also get a perfect host.
We stayed for 2 weeks and during that time, we developed a fantastic relationship with Carl. It felt like we were visiting a family member, and this alone is worth 5 stars, the accommodation could have been absolutely terrible (it wasn't) yet Carl's generosity would more than make up for this.
Moving on from Carl, the accommodation is situated in peaceful scenic surroundings and pristine beaches. You have your own room with plenty of privacy and the kitchen is perfect for cooking some great meals. The movie is simply a huge bonus and is perfect for those rainy "cyclone" days that you are likely to get in QLD. You also get the undeniable love of Bindi the dog.
We recommend staying for more than 3 or 4 days if you are wanting to do a reef trip as it can get cancelled due to weather. As well as this, if you stay for longer Carl can take you either paddle boarding or a 4x4 adventure. We managed to do both and it was a real treat, we were paddle boarding in a matter of minutes and the 4x4 adventure took us to completely empty beaches...perfect!
There is a supermarket in town that provides everything that you could wish to buy, it is pricey yet if you budget right and plan your meals it is more than affordable. We would recommend hiring a car prior to coming here as there is so much to see! There are bikes on the property which takes about 15 mins to get to Agnes Water, however Carl is more than happy to drop you places, which he did for us many times!
Finally, we recommend getting all of your travel advice from Carl, he has explored probably every nook and cranny of Australia and is a wealth of knowledge about where to go and what to do. He really helped us in making some important decisions on our trip, for which we are grateful for!
Wow, what a review! Thanks guys! Ailsa and Aaron were my longest staying, single period guests so far (2 weeks) and we had a great time together. It's very special being able to showcase the area I'm fortunate enough to live in to overseas guests and it's especially rewarding when you're able spend time with a couple like Ailsa and Aaron, who were so keen to make the most of their adventure.
Come back anytime guys!
My husband and I were 2 hours later then Scheduled time of arrival, Carl was very welcoming he made sure there was dinner and cold drinks waiting for us as nothing would be open late at night.
We begin and ended the day with the beautiful view from Carls verandah of the lake and bushland and loved the wallabies visiting us in the afternoons.
We did come to Agnes Waters to surf the most northern surf break on the east coast so being only 5 mins drive from Carls place into town and surf was a bonus also thanks for tip of the locals secret surf spot Carl.
Mature, (as opposed to gone off!) guy who loves to travel especially to Sydney to catch up with my daughter and son as they don't get the opportunity to travel up my way very often. Happy to supply their ph. numbers for verification purposes. I can't stay with them because of space issues. Other stuff.. I have a partner, Chrys, who can travel with me occasionally, tho I usually do the Sydney thing alone. I'm responsible, intelligent and trustworthy. Love to keep fit and I'm told, make great company. I am a professional photographer and you can check out my work and my profile by googling "1770 photography". And if you choose to come and stay with us at our Agnes Water home, we look forward to showing you some real Queensland hospitality!
Perhaps we'll meet soon!
Cheers - Carl
