Just six blocks east of downtown, this sweet little house makes a great homebase for exploring Austin. Downtown and east 6th street are an easy walk through a great neighborhood with true Austin character. The house is one block from Cesar Chavez which is a growing commercial district with great restaurants (Bufalina, Las Cazuelas, Mr Natural), coffee shops and cocktail bars (Cenote, Weather Up), and retail (Farewell Books, Charm School Vintage). This side of town is also full of artist studios and small galleries which are often holding open houses or events. Pedicabs are easily available and a bike rental shop is just four blocks away. Just south are an extensive riverfront park and the Lady Bird Lake trail system; great for outdoor fun and a leisurely way access the city on bike.
The house is over 100 years old with the homey charm of this historic east Austin neighborhood but also offers all the amenities of a new contemporary home. It features a beautiful, open, airy living space with a loft and has been freshly renovated to be a clean, simple modern space. One large main room for living, dining and cooking makes the house perfect for groups and a comfortable place to relax. 2 bedrooms and open loft space comfortably sleep 6 people but couch and 2 twin air mattresses are available if you need additional sleeping space. 1 bath downstairs and a 1/2 bath upstairs.
We are young architects here in Austin and this house has been our weekend design project over the past year. We've spent a ton of time in this house throughout the renovation, using it for several exhibitions, shows and parties. It is a lovely place inside and out and a perfect place to soak up the Austin vibe. The huge backyard is frequented by green parrots and features a huge steel fire bowl for outdoor entertaining.

Interaction with Guests
As much or as little as desired. We live in the neighborhood and can easily meet arriving guests, bring supplies or offer recommendations. We always tell our guests that we are available and we mean it.
The neighborhood is quiet safe and walkable. Our street is tree lined and is arguably one of the best pockets in East Austin. There are a mix of new and old, modest and high end homes. We really appreciate the diversity and homey feeling of the neighborhood. We live nearby and are very well acquainted with every street in East Austin so don't hesitate to ask if you need a guide.
There are bus stops 2 blocks away and light rail about 3/4 mile away.
Peak weekends require a 30 day advance notice of cancellation in order to receive a refund. Full refund is of course given if the house is rebooked for the same time frame.
Please mind the neighbors. They are all super people and laid back but please be respectful and neighborly.
Always use the security system. It is there expressly for guest safety. This neighborhood is quiet and comfortable but Austin is still a city and security is an issue as it is in most urban places.
