Walk into Rocky Mountain National Park from my cozy, contemporary space influenced by my Norwegian roots (STR #6185). A full kitchen, queen bed, private bath, and big deck will ensure a great getaway. My house basically abuts the park, so you'll see lots of wildlife as you sip your coffee!

The space
Real quick -- house rules:

No early check in or late checkouts. Check in is 4pm or later; check out is 10am or earlier. No smoking inside or out; no fire pits; no parties; no pets. 1 car & 4 guests max. Guests must do dishes and start a laundry load of towels/hand towels/washcloths at checkout (we have negotiated a lower cleaning fee based on this). Accurate guest count is mandatory and the platform will not otherwise generate a correct price for your date. AWD, snow tires or 4WD mandatory from October to May. This is a duplex in a historic cabin neighborhood & you may have neighbors. Unit is 425 s/f.

Onward!

Thanks for checking out the south apartment in my newly remodeled duplex, perfectly situated just footsteps from Rocky Mountain National Park's boundary. You will love its cleanliness and modern, cozy vibe inspired by my Norwegian roots. It's well appointed with new flooring, new paint, new living room sofa, new bed, and more, and the brand new fully equipped kitchen will allow you to feel at home during your Estes Park vacation.

Note that winter tires, chains or 4WD/AWD are required in Estes Park from October to May. If you arrive in an inadequate vehicle during a winter storm and can't make it the last few hundred feet to the home, you'll need to ferry your stuff by hand and then park in our other home three blocks away and walk back, if the guests there are ok with it. This sort of weather happens just a few times a year but we cannot guarantee we can assist if you get stuck.

People who have stayed here before have raved:

"We loved the privacy and beautiful night skies. Saw tons of elk at the house."
"Very close to downtown and restaurants but also secluded."
"Absolutely lovely and clean residence!"
"Perfect spot for exploring the park. The home was lovely and made great use of space!"

I spent nearly three months during the winter of 2019 working to create a quiet and relaxing sanctuary for your mountain retreat. Improvements include:

+ Fresh paint throughout
+ Comfy modern couch
+ New flooring throughout
+ A brand new queen mattress for a great rest.
+ Super fast WiFi with no dead zones

My favorite feature is the great views off the front porch. It's surrounded by mountains and you can walk into the National Park.

***** FOUR IMPORTANT DISCLOSURES *****

This is a duplex, and both sides are short term rentals. The only shared space, however, is the driveway. The wall separating the units is sound insulated, but please be respectful and don't make a ton of noise.

This 1940s cabin has been itching for a facelift for many years. While the inside is completely brand new (with the exception of the tub and stove), I plan to totally repaint the exterior soon, when weather allows.

There are other rental units nearby in my historic cabin neighborhood. If you are looking for complete seclusion and and isolation in the woods, this isn't your best bet.

Last, check in is 4PM and check out is 10AM. I cannot accommodate early check ins and late check outs due to my cleaners' schedule. It's a super tiny mountain town and the cleaners are slammed and there just aren't other people to clean. I'm sorry about that!

BEDROOMS

My home offers 1 bedroom, plus sleeping for two more on a living room sofa bed.

Bedroom 1 - A comfortable memory-foam mattress will ensure a good night sleep after a long day of hiking. Attached is a closet for your gear. There are cool bohemian curtains on bedroom door and on one window, while the eastern windows feature blackout shades to ensure a sound night's rest. If you like to wake up with the sunrise, you can leave them up and watch the room light up in the mornings.

Bedroom 2 - Not really a bedroom, but the living couch turns into a full size bed that can comfortable accommodate two. A spare set of sheets and blankets is in the chaise part of the couch, which flips up.

LIVING & ENTERTAINMENT

Living Room - There's a spacious dining room table and a comfy couch to lounge in while you stream your favorite Netflix series on the speedy WiFi.

WiFi - My home employs a mesh WiFi network with no dead zones. A strong 100Mbps connection will allow you to stream and work without any issues.

LAUNDRY & COOKING

Kitchen - The kitchen has everything you need to cook: a full stove and oven, fridge and freezer, and assortment of pots and pans. There are knives, cutting boards, wine glasses, coffee mugs, and a french press so you can get your caffeine fix before you enjoy the park.

Laundry - My tiny space features a full size washer and dryer that you are free to use. I

Guest access
This is a fully furnished, private apartment with total access for you. That includes...

+ 1 bedroom
+ 1 full bathroom
+ 2 private parking spaces
+ private deck

Other things to note
NOISE

Events, loud music and noises, and parties are strictly prohibited. Please be respectful of your noise level. I really want to maintain good relationships with my wonderful neighbors.

Also note that it's a duplex with a shared wall and both sides are vacation rentals. Please treat your neighbors like you'd want to be treated.

The house is equipped with NoiseAware which measures sound levels and alerts me if things are too loud so I can give you a heads up. Rest assured that NoiseAware does not record content, it only measures decibel levels so your privacy is 100% guaranteed. Guests are not to unplug it (I will also be alerted if that happens). You can read more about this device by searching for NoiseAware on the Internet.

NONPAYING GUESTS

My insurance requires that nonpaying and non-registered guests are not allowed on property. There are motion sensitive security cameras on the outside of the building which will pick up nonpaying guests.

ADDITIONAL GUEST FEE

There is an additional charge per person for your stay after the first two guests. The booking platform will automatically calculate the total when you input your dates and guest count.

AIR CONDITIONER

Like nearly every other home in town, there’s no A/C, but the cool mountain air will quickly cool the home down in the evenings when you open the windows.

Location

Estes Park, Colorado, United States

The Valhalla neighborhood is a small collection of about 30 small historic homes and vacation cabins. There are other buildings nearby so if you are looking for total isolation, another home may be better for you.

That said, the location is awesome. You can hike out your door and straight into the National Park.

My home is on the west side of Estes Park, so you don't have to brave downtown traffic to get into the National Park. Driving into the center of town is a short 7 minute journey, and the closest grocery store is 5 minutes away.

Hi! I am a professional rock climber and also a wedding and family photographer. I generally travel during the winters and climb, fulfilling my obligations to my climbing sponsors, and during the summers I am in Estes Park where I train, climb, and shoot weddings and family sessions. Traveling is a huge part of my life, and I think meeting new people and visiting new places bridges gaps and breaks down barriers, so I am so thrilled to be an AirBnB host! When I'm not traveling, shooting or climbing, I enjoy espresso, yoga, music, and most of all, my little Italian Greyhound named Leo.
