The Woody Creek Cabin is a backcountry cabin that is a 2.5 mile walk from downtown Cooke City. It is only accessible by foot or horses. The cabin is 20x24 with a sleeping loft and was built in 2012 from the standing dead trees on the property.
The Woody Creek cabin sits on a 21 acre private in holding that is completely surrounded by National Forest and is only 1/4 mile to the Wilderness Boundary. The cabin provides access to Hayden Creek and Woody Creek drainage's, which are rarely visited and contain beautiful vistas and abundant wildlife. The cabin contains a great kitchen, with all the necessary eating and cooking utensils, a 3 burner propane range and wood burning stove. There are 11 Memory Foam mattresses, but guests must provide there own sleeping bags.
Guests have access to the entire cabin, the 21 acre property and the thousands of acres of Forest Service land that surround the property. There is no running water in the cabin, but there is a spring creek within a 100 yards and an outhouse about 30' away from the cabin. All first time users must be guided to the cabin, to ensure that you find the cabin without difficulties and to show the guests how to use the amenities of the cabin and how to leave the cabin when you depart. The additional cost for this service is $100 and it includes me carrying up to 50lbs of food or gear for you.
Interaction with Guests
I meet the guests and guide all first time users to the cabin as part of the first time user orientation This service is an additional cost to the lodging. I can provide guiding services for day hikes at an additional cost.
The mountains and woods around the Woody Creek Cabin provide guests with one of the most unique lodging experiences most people will ever have. The cabin is accessible by anyone that is in reasonable fitness. Children as young as 3 years old have made the trek to the cabin.
The cabin is only accessible by foot or horseback.

Guests are expected to leave the Cabin clean and with firewood stacked inside for the next guests.( there is a firewood pile outside the cabin) Food must be stored indoors, as there is abundant wildlife in the area. Guests must provide their own sleeping bags.
