The Wine Country Airplane House

House - Entire home/apt · Fitzpatrick Ln, Occidental, CA 95465, United States

The Space

Welcome to your dog-friendly, secluded get-away home situated on 15 plus acres in the hills of West Sonoma County, California. And YES, that is really a genuine piece of the old Golden Gate Bridge in front of the house!

Wine lovers paradise! We are a scenic 20 to 30 minute drive from many world class wineries that are considered the best wineries in Sonoma County located along the Russian River Valley. We often have coupons for free tasting at some of the local wineries as well.

Bicyclers welcome! Several major bike races are held here every year including the Tour de California in May and the Gran Fondo in October!

The Airplane House can comfortably sleep 6 adults (3 couples, 2 people per bed). There is a queen size bed in the master bedroom on the main floor, a queen size bed in the loft and the leather couch in the great room on the main floor folds out into a queen size bed.

As soon as we receive confirmation that you have booked, we will send explicit directions. During prohibition, the remote canyons and forests in our area were natural places for people to set up stills. The surrounding roads provided access to the stills and to the purveyors of illegal alcohol, so our lane was closed off and to this day has not been re-opened as a through road for the public. Just a bit of history for you.

The Wine Country Airplane House is approximately 65 miles north of the Golden Gate Bridge and 30 minutes away from the Russian River Wine Valley. This is the perfect place for you to relax with family, friends and dogs, unwind, and leave your worries behind. We respectfully request that you do not bring pit bulls or other agressive or fighting dogs to our home!

This is a unique, three story 2200 sq. ft. home surrounded by cultivated gardens, wooded areas and a pond. Please note a real, authentic piece of the Golden Gate Bridge outside the front entrance! Spectacular views of the Bodega Valley as well as Bodega Bay, (just a short scenic 30 minute drive away) and the sparkling waters of the Pacific Ocean, Point Reyes, and on very clear days, you will catch a glimpse of the Farallon Islands.

On the main floor there is a large living area with ample seating for friends and family. The master bedroom and the bathroom are also located on the main floor. There is an electric fireplace. Sorry, Sonoma County would not let us add a wood burning stove!

The upper floor is actually a sleeping loft with a queen size bed and a couch area where you can lounge around enjoying a good book.

The bottom floor features a large dining area, and a full size, fully equipped kitchen to include good quality knives with a sharpening tool, and a 2ft x 2ft built in butcher block cutting board. There is also an area for working out including a treadmill and a weight bench and weights. The lower level also has padded bench seats for extra lounging space. There is a small laundry room with full size washer and dryer located off of the kitchen area.

There are a number of activities in and around the Airplane House for you to enjoy should you want to venture out. Located on our property, there is a small grove of redwoods with a rhodedendron garden. We also have a number of sculptures in the garden areas on the property, so take a walk and enjoy!

A short 1 ½ mile walk will take you to an amazing grove of old growth redwoods. You will find several easy hiking trails where you can view some of the largest redwood trees in Sonoma County.

The BEST times to visit our wineries are between November and March when you can avoid the crowds AND you may even be able to talk to some of the wine makers hanging around the tasting rooms!

  • Thank you Lynda for a wonderful time in the Airplane House. The kids loved running around on the property and we all enjoyed picking apples in the orchard. The house was clean and the kitchen was well equipped for two families with hungry kids. Highly recommended!

  • We loved our stay at The Wine Country Airplane House. This was my first airbnb experience and I could not have picked a better host and house to inaugurate my airbnb adventures.

Right after I booked, Lynda was incredibly responsive. She answered all my emails in such a timely manner and gave us great local tips in regards to the area around Occidental.

The house is spacious and charming! Everything is so clean and well kept. We loved the fully stocked kitchen, the giant dining table perfect for board games, and the living room ideal for curling up with book.

I'm so glad we got to explore the gem that is Occidental. We will definitely be back.

  • The Airplane House and the space it sits in are GORGEOUS. My family and I spent a three-night stay here and enjoyed every bit of it. The house had everything we needed to relax (towels, extra sheets and blankets, cookware, exercise equipment, etc.) and Lynda was such a warm and energetic host. Even before we arrived, her communication was excellent and she made sure that we were well taken care of.
The Airplane House is at the end of a narrow street that is lined with vineyards, redwood forests, and open fields. It's a 10 to 15-minute drive (depending on the thickness of the fog, which makes for a more cautious drive) to the town of Occidental. However, the Airplane House is such a comfortable space that one could spend the entire stay on the property without needing to go into town. Particularly in the middle of the day, the fog clears and the living room fills with sunlight due to the many windows and the openness of the house, making the whole house warm and bright. The gardens also add to the beauty of this property - I highly recommend exploring!

  • The airplane house is awesome, and Lynda is very gracious. We were greeted upon our arrival with a very warm welcome from Lynda, who gave us just the perfect amount of information without being too overwhelming. The property is absolutely stunning and the home is a reflection of its owners who so lovingly built this guest house. Fully stocked and comfortable, out in the 'country' but a ten minute drive to the cute little town of Occidental and even closer proximity to a beautiful Redwood Grove, the airplane house is a wonderful escape to simply relax. Thank you so very much for our stay Lynda!

  • The Airplane house is on an amazing piece of property. The photos don't do this listing justice and it needs to be seen in person to really appreciate the value. The views are spectacular and the grounds are beautiful!!! We especially enjoyed our host and her recommendations for food and fun in the area. Thank you so much!

  • Great experience! Thank you, Lynda, for answering all our questions about the area and for providing the detailed directions to the house!

The house is as can be seen on the photos. The directions to the house from Lynda proved to be very helpful.

The house is located on the street called Fitzpatrick Lane. As of summer 2013, this street consists of two disjoint pieces. It looks like at least some GPS mapping software think that these two disjoint pieces of Fitzpatrick Lane are connected. The GPS software with this fault may try to navigate you to the house through the wrong piece of Fitzpatrick Lane leading to the dead end. Getting to the house from this dead end will take 20-30 minutes of detouring. To avoid getting into this dead end on Fitzpatrick Lane, do not take the route leading you to the house through Salmon Creek Road, followed by Fitzpatrick Lane. Instead take the routes leading you to the house through Joy Road followed by Fitzpatrick Lane, or through Coleman Valley Road followed by Fitzpatrick Lane.

As of summer 2013, (website hidden) Maps has the right map of the vicinity of the house and provides the correct directions not affected by the above problem.
