About this listing
Once upon the time, this German van was used as an ambulance for the fire brigade. It has since been transformed into a small camper with a kitchen and a sitting area that can be transformed into a double bed. A nice sleeping place for the kids next to the yurt or the gypsy van, or a kitchen with dining area in case you want to be completely independent at the yurt. Gas expenses for cooking and the fridge will be charged separately. The back doors can be opened wide, so that again, you feel the closeness of nature.
It is also possible to rent the fire van independently. It will be placed in our little valley, next to our source, where you will have all privacy, your own compost-toilet and the choice between a simple (cold) shower under the cork oak or a shower under our outdoors, sun-heated shower 5 minutes walking from there.
Activities and the area
The pleasant climate of the Algarve and the still unspoilt, authentic countryside, added to the enormous choice of activities and the many beautiful beaches, make this region a perfect destination for short or long holidays throughout the year. Brejeira, situated between the hills of the interior in the centre of the Algarve, is the ideal starting point to explore the region.
A fifteen minute drive away lies Silves, a historic castle town that has recently earned the slow-city logo. Sitting on the bench of the Arade River, with her walled castle from the times of the Mores, this very relaxed small city offers all needed facilities, including supermarkets, banks, a post office, restaurants…You can meander through the quiet, narrow, cobbled streets or languidly admire a Portuguese scene from one of the many terraces. Or you can actively dive into its history in one of the monuments or museums.
From Silves, it’s only a ten minute drive to one of the heavenly bays on the south coast. If you prefer vast beaches surrounded by rough cliffs, you drive another half hour to the west coast, a beautiful, protected area, heaven for walkers, bikers and surfers.
The endless range of activities in the area suits anyone, sportive or relaxed, young or old. Whether you like horse riding or golfing, beaches or town trips, hiking paths or theme parks, biking, canoeing, fishing, diving, shopping or eating at local restaurants, we are very happy to give you all necessary help and local information, adjusted to your personal wishes. You can, of course, hike right over the hills in the area surrounding Brejeira. And this year, the works on the dam of Odelouca, only five minutes away, have been completed. Soon, you will be able to swim in the more than 15 km long artificial lake.
No smoking inside the van.
It was great to stay in the Firevan, we spend beautiful 3 days there, in Portugals nature! Claire and her family were so cordially and help us whenever we need some information.
We will never forget the "Adventure Firevan" and can recommend spending time there.
My son and me, we loved spending time in the firevan. It is absolutely amazing to experience the quite and the peace of this part of the country.... in sort of your own little valley. The van provides everything one needs with the cooker and the big bed...we loved using the fantastic outside shower (still being in the middle of nature) and the whole surroundings! Claire and Alexander are very cordially hosts. So it was easy for us to feel home. Thank you so much for everything!!!

About the Host, Claire
The dreamers, that’s us, Sander and Claire, since summer 2009, Brejeira counts a tough inhabitant: Ayla, and march 2011 has brought us a brand-new member: Ravi. Sander is a carpenter, but also an all-round handy-man, from electrician to plumber to plasterer, in short: the foundation of Brejeira. Claire, in some far away past a social anthropologist now converted to building-helper and vegetable- grower, runs the business. And luckily, we have Moelie and Zola, our two very faithful and very sweet female dogs, to guard the whole land and especially to give and receive a lot of cuddles. They enjoy all freedom, yet can, on request and at certain times, be tied up. However, those who do not like dogs will probably enjoy their holidays more somewhere else.
