Apartment - Private room · Pembroke St, Toronto, ON M5A 1Z8, Canada

Charming room in a quiet urban chalet, just a short walk from Toronto's centre.

The Space

Charming bedroom available in a split level home. We are located within walking distance of all that makes Toronto special; Dundas Square, Eaton Centre, St.Lawrence Market, Distillery District, China Town, the other China Town....
We are less then 10 minutes away from the subway lines. Our home is located in a private courtyard, away from traffic, noise, goblins and Manchester United fans.

The bed is firm, which may be a boon for people who like firm beds and a curse for people who do not.

Interaction with Guests

Vanessa and I love meeting and interacting with people. We enjoy interpretive dance and miming in case we don't share a common language. However we understand that not everyone is as social as we are so if you would prefer to have a less interactive stay, that is also ok with us.

The Neighborhood

About our neighbourhood:

Stroll through one of the many parks and green spaces in a newly designated area in Toronto known as The Garden District. The district is located between Wellesley and Queen streets; Yonge and Sherbourne streets and encompasses many gardens and parks.

We live in a developing neighbourhood, a departure from Toronto's posh west end. Because of its grittiness our neighbourhood is often the setting for many Hollywood movies. Our section of the Garden District is soon to be designated a Heritage Conservation District. HCDs are designated because the areas they protect are considered to be historically or culturally significant and require special care and attention in the planning process to ensure that they are conserved.

The focus of the area is Allan Gardens with its abundance of gardens in the summer and a greenhouse packed full of plant life in the winter. The area is a blend of old and new, residential and commercial, houses and high rises, history and new sites all mixed together. Full of historical churches, restaurants, shopping and many other unique venues the area is one of Toronto’s hottest new spots to live and work.

  • First repeat customer! It was just as good as the first time. Thank you Calin & Vanessa for your hospitality during our stay. 3-peat?!?

  • My stay over 3 days at Vanessa and Calin's was lovely. They are both so friendly and easy going, and I loved hanging out with Remy the beagle. The house is just as promised, it's so cute and well decorated! The house, and my room and bathroom, were nice and clean. I wish I had stayed in a warmer month so I could have taken advantage of the balcony off of my room.
The courtyard outside their house is so cute and private, and it's a quick walk away from street cars, the subway station, the Eaton's Center and many different restaurants. I would definitely recommend staying here, and I myself would stay here again.

  • We came to Toronto for David Bowie show at the Art Gallery of Toronto (AGO) and we wanted to try Airb&b. We'd never stayed in one before and we had a great first experience. Calin and Vanessa are superb, gracious hosts. We felt welcome the moment we entered their home. Our room was more than adequate, adorable, and clean. We highly recommend!

  • I only spent one night in this room and it was a very pleasant stay. It's very quiet and clean and Calin and Vanessa were incredibly welcoming and friendly.

  • Calin and Vanessa were fantastic hosts, great to get along with and always happy to help with questions about the city. The apartment had everything I could have needed and was only minutes from the city centre. Would not hesitate to recommend to anyone looking to stay in Toronto!

  • Had a wonderful stay at Calin and Vanessa's. They were kind enough to accept our last minute request for accommodation, and were responsive and flexible. They also went out of their way to provide us garaged parking, which was so nice of them. The room was everything as advertised and the private bath makes it a great deal. Thanks again for everything!

  • Great stay. Comfortable place. Very central though the immediate area around the house was described by everyone I spoke to as 'a little sketchy'.
Moss Park has a lot of homeless on the streets and though I don't think it's actually dangerous, single travellers might feel nervous at night on foot.

About
I tend to fidget. Its a thing I do. And I like to straighten pencils. First perpendicular, then horizontal and finally I balance them straight up. I'm five foot seven, two eyes, one nose. I store food in my cheeks (for the winter). I collect colorful shoes.. for example.. I have multicolored collection of All Stars, Ed Hardy shoes, Blue Lizard Shows (made from real lizards!). I also like making wild claims that cannot possibly be verified. Why ? Because as a youth I used to play for Chelsea F.C in their under 15 team and I feel pressured now to live up to that expectation. Also I'm half sewing machine. Just kidding! Ignore everything I've written above and concentrate solely on this paragraph. Vanessa and I are avid travellers. We know that getting oriented in a new city can be as tough as it is exciting and we are here to provide you with the guidance you need to find what you are looking for. We enjoy adventures in food and can suggest a few authentic places to try. Of course, you may be of a different opinion as to what constitutes "great food", so we will annoy you until you relent. Yeah. We're weird food snobs. And this is why I'm not allowed to write profiles. Update! I've realized I really dislike the term: "Heart of Toronto". Its really overused. What about the "inner Toronto sanctum" ? or "The discreet inner tip of Toronto" ? Lets give that a go for the next decade and then we can have that whole "heart of Toronto" thing back, a la retro.
