Semi-isolated 1940s cedar-shingled WV cabin with midcentury modern furnishings in peaceful wooded setting. Lovely spot for hanging out or working. Queen bed on main floor. Kitchenette. Fire pit & gas grill. Front porch with rockers. Outdoor patio dining area. River access 0.1 mi for kayaking or canoeing. Convenient to Shepherdstown & Harpers Ferry. Modern bathroom with tiled walk-in shower, barn door, and heated floor. Echo Dot + CD player & CD library.

The space
Built in the 1940’s, Knott Cabin is a cedar-shingled cabin in the woods, a short walk on a rural road from the Potomac River. This homey cabin is updated with stylish mid-century modern furnishings. A queen bed is located on the roomy main floor, and 2 twin beds are available in the loft.

Enjoy a contemporary bathroom with tiled walk-in shower, rainshower head and spray wand, barn door, and heated floor. The cabin also features a cozy west-facing front porch with rocking chairs, and a shady side patio with table/chairs, fire pit and Weber gas grill with side burner.

You’ll be close to Shepherdstown (10 min. drive) and not far from Harpers Ferry (20 min. drive).

The kitchen includes microwave, convection toaster oven, blender, toaster & refrigerator. Complete coffee and tea station including locally roasted whole beans, grinder, Chemex and electric kettle (traditional coffeemaker too). *There is NO STOVE/OVEN inside the cabin.*

This is a rural area, so cell phone service is spotty. Bring your tablet/laptop; high speed wireless internet is fast enough to stream music or video. A TV monitor is available with an HDI cable and a Chromecast to facilitate watching content from your streaming device.

Note that the loft with 2 twin beds is reached by steep stairs that are open and not easily gated. The cabin is probably not appropriate for children under age 3. No pets please.

The cabin does not have a convenient set-up for recharging electric bicycles.

Where you’ll be

Shepherdstown, West Virginia, United States

Enjoy a scenic 10 minute drive along the Potomac River to the fine dining and shopping in quaint Shepherdstown. Easy 20 minute drive to historic attractions and river activities in Harpers Ferry. Hike or bike the C&O Canal Towpath. Canoe, kayak or go tubing on the Potomac River (we recommend River Riders or River & Trail Outfitters). Check the Shepherdstown Visitor Center website for details about all the great things going on in our town. We love our CATF theater guests!

The cabin sits on nearly 3 acres of woodland but does sit next to a road that serves a few residents of the nearby riverfront property. You may hear cars driving by, as well as their 4-wheel ATVs which can sound louder and faster.

In 2017 we got married in the gardens of a beautiful 1920s American Foursquare house in Harpers Ferry, WV, and made it our home. Six months later we began listing our entire-third-floor suite on Airbnb and discovered that we love hosting! That led to renovating some downstairs space into the now popular Studebaker Suite and our official status as a licensed B&B. In 2019 we expanded further by building a tiny cabin (Camp Hike-n-Bike) on the property and buying Knott Cabin near the Potomac River, just outside of Shepherdstown. We're working hard and having a blast! Creating beautiful spaces and unique lodging experiences for our guests turns out to be our true calling. We love Harpers Ferry and the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia. We both enjoy living in this small community and getting to know the friendly folks who live around us. We are also fascinated with the inspiring story of the former Storer College, which is up the hill a block away from us. Our 3-1/2 story home, which we have named Rockhaven, was built by Prof. William A. Saunders, and we continue to search for more information about him and his wife Inez -- as well as the home's second owner, Carrie Mae Dennis.
