My home is in a small, old neighborhood just 2 miles from downtown Columbia & convenient to all major interstates. Free parking & safe community. The room is comfy, with a full-size bed and small closet. Access to full house except master bedroom.
The room will comfortably fit only 2 people. There is minimal floor space, due to the large furniture & a comfy chair. My home has hardwood floors and all hand-crafted furniture built by my grandfather. Loads of charm, as is typical with a home built in the 1940s.
I have a Keurig that you're welcome to use, and typically have hot tea as well. If you would like me to supply something in advance of your visit, please don't hesitate to ask.
I ask that guests respect my privacy, of course, but welcome you to use the kitchen, bathroom (shower/tub combo), and of course, the guest room. The kitchen is fully stocked with any appliance you'd need.
If you're coming to town for a football game or other similar event, I have a large cooler you're welcome to use (as long as I'm not). Obviously I just ask that you take care of it and clean it out before you go.
Interaction with Guests
I will likely be around, and love good conversation as long as I don't have work to do. I have been in Columbia for 4+ years, and love the city, so I'm happy to offer restaurant or tourism recommendations.
The neighborhood is great for walking/running, with lots of short hills. It's about a mile to the grocery store, several fast food places, and about 2 miles to get to The Vista (shopping & dining area downtown). USC campus is about 10 minutes drive, and the football stadium is 15-20, depending on traffic.
City bus stops about a mile down the road, but it isn't commonly used here.
I do have a hybrid (mountain/road) bike that's available for use. Ask about this via email if you're interested.
Other Things to Note
I have a small dog (a yorkie), quite protective of me and the home, but not aggressive at all.
I don't allow smoking or other animals, and ask that guests treat my home as they would their own. The only unique rule is that I ask ladies not to wear heels through the house, as they cause serious damage to the floors.
The second time staying was just as great as the first time. Brooke is an excellent host. As a host myself I pay attention to detail and she has put together a wonderful experience. The bed is comfortable and cozy. The house smelled like blue berry muffins which were fresh made for breakfast the next morning. I love staying here and will be back.
Thank you Brooke for your hospitality and for a wonderful short stay at your home, which I enjoyed. Comfy bed, great muffins and coffee and nice conversations!
It was great staying at Brooke's. I felt right at home immediately. The bed was extremely comfortable, and the living room had comfortable furniture for reading, catching up on mail, and just looking out the window. Also, this was a Columbia neighborhood I hadn't known before, so I enjoyed walking and driving around a bit.
Great talking with Brooke, too -- and her miniature dog Aden is adorable, with and without the hair in his eyes!
Brooke and Ayden, her little dog, were very welcoming. We felt wonderfully taken care of. Brooke had thought of a lot of things ahead of time to give us ideas for restaurants and things to do. We ate at Hunter Gatherer and had good beer Thanks to her suggestions. Plus the bed was very cozy and comfy. We will likely want to stay with her again when we come through Columbia.
Brooke was a great host. When she discovered that she wouldn't be around when we were arriving, she provided instructions to us on getting into the house and invited us to make ourselves comfortable. She was willing to chat with us about Columbia and made our stay very relaxed and easy. Thanks Brooke!
Brooke was very accommodating throughout and made our stay very easy and relaxing in her beautiful home. We would if we come back to Columbia will definitely want to stay here again.
I had a very nice time staying with Brooke. I arrived late (around 9) the evening before a meeting at USC. Everything was ready for me and she made me feel at home immediately. The bed was very comfortable and I got a great night's sleep. I had a relaxing morning and breakfast in the dining room before heading off to the meeting. Brooke's house is only a couple miles from USC, so that was very convenient.
I'm an MSW grad student, super excited about adventures ahead and love meeting folks. I'm working and in school, so my schedule is a bit crazy but I make it work. As for airbnb, I'm out to prove that southern hospitality is alive & well.
Please don't hesitate to ask any questions you may have. Happy to be a part of this community and share my home.
