The Space

Little, mid century, ranch style, private guest house, on Point Dume peninsula. We are surrounded by Big & Little Dume coves, Westward & Zuma Beaches. Malibu is 27 mi. long and 2 mi. wide.

Cottage has one bedroom, kitchen, bathroom, living room,w/ large tv and wifi. Picture window looks back to mountains, & down to our lovely tennis court. Bring your own or borrow rackets to play.

We are 3 blocks to beach in each direction as seen on map, w/key to private beach.
A lovely private tennis-and-beach getaway with lots of open land, set in Maibu's beloved Point Dume neighborhood. The clean, detached space has a homey feel, smart swing-out windows for fresh Malibu sea air, and the rooms are appointed with comfortable furniture, orchids, wi-fi, a large desk area (great for writers), entertainment system, and a full kitchen. We have cultural touches inside the guest-house like the Beatles Anthology, complete cartoons of The New Yorker, a "Far Side" comics collection, and other new and vintage books, as well as NY Times travel suggestions. Little Dume beach is a gem for surfers and general beachgoers alike, and ocean-lovers are also close to Zuma, El Matadar, County Line, etc. Also recommend exploring the back end of Mulholland highway, a serenely pastoral region that leads to wineries and displays the old, untouched Malibu, just like the tide pools and sea caves at Leo Carillo beach, or some of the secret hiking paths.
On the issue of food: The property is near (and walkable to) quite a bit, including Sunlife Organics for great juices and smoothies as well as Cafecito Organico, a top fair-trade coffee roaster; Central Malibu also has a new, fresh market with excellent prepared food called Pacific Coast Greens and a great new seasonal/local restaurant called V's.

Many beach locations from classic and not so classic movies are all around for the film buff. NYTimes article '36 hrs in the 'bu' is our area. One block away, grocery, coffee shop, restaurants and new bookstore. Walk the beach, bike, or hike the mountain or have a game of tennis.

Our area is an eclectic, super safe, residential area, full of nature loving, the sports minded and families, as well as our many celebrities.

  • My fiancé and I were wanting to find a place to stay in Malibu that was close to the beach and close to restaurants and shopping. We came across Patricia's listing and thought it looked great. It met and exceeded all of our expectations! When we arrived Patricia showed us around the neighborhood, pointed out all the beaches in the area, and provided recommendations on things to do. She was very attentive and so accommodating. The guest house exceeded my expectations. It had everything we needed to share in a private and romantic weekend. Patricia is an excellent host, the location is ideal, and the guest house was so clean and spacious. I'll certainly be back next time we vacation in the Bu.

  • My husband and I decided to turn a friend's wedding in San Diego into a week-long vacation over our anniversary in Southern CA. Having driven through Malibu once years ago, I thought it might be nice to stay there for the actual anniversary date so we could be near a less-crowded beach. Boy, did we ever get more than that! Patricia and Jeff were so, so lovely and made our two nights there so amazing we honestly did not want to leave. Not only did we get the freshly baked cookies and tour of Point Dume others have mentioned, we really felt like we were staying with friends. Jeff recommended an amazing restaurant for dinner, let us use the private beach and his tennis court. It was the absolute highlight of the trip (don't tell our newlywed friends!) and we can not wait to go back-- we've already started plotting when we can go back!

  • We had such a wonderful time at Patricia & Jeff's guest house. The location is absolutely perfect, the guest house itself is clean and adorable, and Jeff and Patricia so friendly and accommodating. They went out of their way to make us feel at home and we would (and will!) happily stay there again on our next visit. Highly, highly recommended.

  • Staying at Patricia's cottage was great. Patricia is a wonderful host. When we arrived she welcomed us with warm chocolate cookies. After that she took us on a tour through the neighborhoud which was amazing. The cottage was very clean and cosy with a lot of space. We especially enjoyed the beautiful garden and mountain views while having breakfast at the open sliding door. Not far from the place you can use a private beach access where a miraculous stairway goes down to the beach. Dexter, the Labradoodle, and Donnie, the turtle, are absolutely adorable. We highly recommend this place and we will defenitely come back!

  • Thanks Patricia for a memorable stay at your lovely guest house in Malibu. It was everything we hoped for. The homemade cookies on arrival were delicious and a very thoughtful gesture, not to mention the private neighborhood tour.
We highly recommend your homely accommodation for a relaxing getaway close to the beach.

  • We had a great time at Patricia's Malibu guest house. On our arrival, Patricia warmly welcomed us with warm chocolate chip cookies which we quickly devoured!:) She also provided us with an awesome tour of her beautiful Malibu neighborhood the next morning. During this time, she pointed out the nearby celeb homes and gave us a quick tour of the beautiful private beach within her community. Since we are from Calgary and have never been to California before, we wanted to tour as much of the area as possible. Being in a central location, and such a short drive from the PCH, the guest house made this possible, as we were able to explore many areas near Malibu, such as Santa Barbara, Los Angeles, Huntington and Newport beach etc. The guest house is also a short walking distance to stores like Starbucks, Pavillions and some other restaurants/pubs. We especially enjoyed the pizza place near the Pavillions in the area- probably the best pizza that we've ever had! Patricia provided us with numerous maps, articles and travel guides to the area. Her friendly dog Dexter was a perfect companion to our own dog Charlie, who we brought along for the trip. The ample space surrounding the guest house provided sufficient space for the two to run around in the mornings and play before we would head out to tour the area. The guest house itself was very homey, clean and private. It had everything we needed and the bed was super comfortable! Because we were so busy the whole week, we only got a chance to go to the private beach once. However we are definitely glad we did! The walkway to the beach is very scenic and beautiful and as is the beach itself. We took some snacks down to the beach on our second last night and watched the sunset- it was very enjoyable and peaceful. It was a perfect ending to our trip! All in all, Patricia was a wonderful host and I would definitely recommended Patricia's guest house to anyone traveling to the area!

  • This place is absolutely perfect! Patricia and Jeff are great hosts. We were warmly welcomed with fresh fruits and flowers. We especially appreciated Patricias marvelous tour to orient us to the neighborhood. Dexter is just a sweet and very friendly labradoodle who never imposed himself on us during our stay.
The cottage provided us with everything we needed and was bright and clean. The location of the house is excellent, just within walking distance or a short drive to many of the most beautiful beaches in the area. Of course there are also plenty of possibilities to explore the wonderful Malibu surroundings like the back of Mulholland highway, wonderful and secret hikes, and finally, not to forget, the old untouched Malibu itself.
We would highly recommend staying at Patricia and Jeff's to anyone who wants to visit Malibu. Many thanks again to both of them for making us feel at home. We are very much looking forward to staying here again.

  • I grew up in Malibu and staying at Patricia's guest house is like going home! We had a wonderful stay in her beautiful place, walks on the beach and soaking in the peace and beauty of the property. Thanks to this family for sharing their gem of a location with the rest of us. Everything was perfect and they are the best hosts. We will be visiting again soon I can only hope.
