Pool
This is one of a few places in the area that has this feature.
Casetta Benessere - our "little house of well-being" is a cosy cottage on the side of a beautiful valley in rural Le Marche.

With access to a 30 foot swimming pool, BBQ terrace, olive grove, fruit orchard, vegetable garden and fresh eggs every day from our small flock of friendly chickens, it's a quiet retreat in the heart of the Italian countryside.

Built for two, it has all the basics you'll need for a comfortable stay in a working rural community.

This is the "real" Italy.

Welcome!

The space
The cottage was built in 2017, by local builders in local stone. It is small - just 27 square metres in total - but quite adequate for two people.

So adequate that we lived there happily for six months while our house next door was renovated!

The living space, dining area and fitted kitchen are all in one, equipped as fully as you would like and with a comfortable sofa and dining table. We provide essentials like washing-up liquid, cling film and kitchen paper.

There's a log fire and central heating for winter months, and air conditioning to keep you cool in the heat of the summer.

The bedroom has a UK-sized double bed, wardrobe and bedside cabinets and overlooks the garden and the valley beyond.

The en-suite bathroom has a shower, washbasin, toilet and storage unit and is fully tiled. We provide all bedding and towels, including beach towels, and incidentals like shampoo and soap for your convenience.

Outside, you have access to your own small grassed garden, and shared access (with us, if we're using it, otherwise it's all yours!) of our 30' by 12' swimming pool which overlooks the valley. It has its own terrace and sitting area complete with umbrella and recliners.

You'll also have your own terrace with a stone-built barbeque and a dining table under a large umbrella to keep you shaded from the sun.

You'll be able to swing in the hammock in the shade of the orchard, or walk through our olive grove and woodland areas. The wildlife here is stunning: deer, black squirrels and owls live alongside wild boar, porcupines and fox families while buzzards and the occasional eagle fly over the valley.

And the fruit of our orchard, the veg from our "orto", fresh eggs from our chickens and oil from our organic, stone-pressed olives are freely available.

The cottage has its own garden but please note that, like all properties in this area, it is not fenced. There is parking adjacent to the cottage and a gate which closes off entrance to everyone but guests.

You'll have access to our washing-machine, and a freezer if the one in the cottage is too small for your needs.

The internet in the cottage is business-strength wifi - it can be a little temperamental depending on the weather but is good enough for Cath to run her online business from!

Guest access
The cottage is all yours! You'll also have access to the washing machine and your own freezer (and a treadmill, if you're so inclined!) in our big house. Outside you have space for parking, a lawned area, a large BBQ and sun terrace, the pool, olive grove, orchard, woodland and, if you want to, our chicken run!

Other things to note
We can't think of anything to say here, but if you're at all concerned about anything please do just drop us a message.

Location

Ripe San Ginesio, Marche, Italy

Our tiny village, population 536, is across the valley - walkable as long as you don't mind hills! It's a very traditional setting: the church bells ring out to announce births and marriages and to call workers in from the fields.

It has a bakery, a bar and a church, around which village life revolves. Villagers are friendly and genuinely interested in getting to know visitors who are made welcome at all the local festivities.

The local area is again traditional Italy. Seasons are marked by festivals celebrating everything from the first fruits to olives to the wine harvest. Talent is celebrated in street theatre, food is celebrated in feasts cooked by local ladies using recipes handed down the generations.

Wine tasting is a joy at our local vineyard where the family is delighted to show you round their pride and joy before you sit sipping delicious wines as you overlook the vines and the mountains beyond.

There's no "nightlife" here except for joining local people in their family-run bistro (we go there so often we were invited to the family wedding!) or eating local meats and cheeses in the next village's "tasting" menu.

We're almost equally between the mountains and the sea, both of which have masses to offer, whether you like walking, mountain biking or relaxing on the beach.

It's not a "touristy" area - which is one of the reasons we love it so much. If you're looking for clubs and pubs, this is not the right venue for you.

But if you want to experience a taste of Italy - in all senses of the word - you'll love it as much as we do.

During your stay
We have lived in this property for nearly 13 years, so we know the area and its people well and will be more than happy to share that knowledge with you.

Our house is, literally, next door so it's important to know this is not an isolated property. We are around caring for the gardens, pool and chickens and we'll have as much or as little contact with you as you'd like.

We also have a large, very friendly sheepdog who may drop in from time to time to say hello!

We love having guests to stay, and we'll enjoy sharing our love of the area with you. Cath still works (at home) while Mike takes care of the property and land.

We're both available by phone whenever you need us!
