Interaction with Guests
My partner and I are long time San Francisco residents and live with a friendly 12 lb dog. We can toss you a key and wish you well or help you map an "insider" tour de force.
The accommodation is relaxed and comfortable: the house is 2 story and we reside in the lower level. Your room and bath share the upper level with our common areas.
While we're often on the move with busy lives (the dog included!) - I make excellent coffee. Note: the dog is a hypoallergenic breed. She has hair (doesn't shed fur) so she's great for allergy-prone guests.
Our street is tree-lined, safe and quiet. The neighborhood boasts some of San Francisco's best weather and there's a convenient bus stop nearby. Corbett Avenue at Hattie Street (our approximate location) is a five minute walk into Castro village. Easily explore multiple parks, tons of restaurants (for every taste and budget!), and the famous Castro Theatre and Mission Dolores.
The Castro Muni station is so close - why drive? I recommend that you enjoy San Francisco without a car (it's easy and cheap) but there is ample street parking with restrictions.
And the BEST part? This house is ideally situated for city-wide exploration!
The Castro Muni station (underground) or the historic Market F-line are a 5 minute walk (or quick bus ride).
Cable Cars, Chinatown, downtown shopping, Fisherman's Wharf, the Ferry Building, AT&T Park, the Haight and Golden Gate Park - they're all easily accessible!
Other Things to Note
We've pinned our location to the Guidebook. Zoom in to better see where our home is located.
If you rent a bike while you're visiting - lock it to our lemon tree! Our property is raised from the street and surrounded by a tall fence for added safety and deterrent protection.
No smoking inside the house.
No overnight guests without prior approval.
When you leave, secure the house.
If one bathroom fails, we share a bathroom until repairs can be made.
Dharma vibes welcomed.
You are 100% responsible for the bike locked to the lemon tree. :)
A lovely old cottage o a quiet avenue with great transport connections and vibrant village I Castro. Bruce and Mo were friendly and helpful and available when I needed them. The room and bathroom were perfect. I always had the impression I could come and go as I pleased. Definitely a place to return to. Thanks to both of them
Bruce and his partner were very welcoming and helpful. The room is small but has everything you might need for your visit. The house is a 10 min walk from MUNI and the heart of the Castro on a very beautiful street.
Bruce and Mo were very quick and responsive. They made me feel right at home right a way. The neighborhood was excellent, very safe, very nice to walk to and from, close to transport and The Castro and Market Street. The room was as described, cozy an clean . They delivered what they promised with an easy warmth and comfort, including their delightful little shnauzer, Roxy! Worth the money! I would return!
I was greeted with a glass of wine by Bruce who was helpful with local information. The house is very clean and I liked the neighbourhood BUT I think it is important to note that the bedroom is located in the centre of the house and right next to the open kitchen. Bruce warned me, ahead of time, that he was an early riser. However, I didn't expect to be woken at 5.30am most mornings with what seemed like an endless chorus of pot banging, and other extremely loud noises such as insinkerator, blenders, etc. Just when you think the noise is over and you may be able to grab an extra hour's sleep, Roxy the dog, would start barking at passers-by. I've stayed at airbnb homes across the world and this is the first time I have not been totally happy with my stay.
Fiona never communicated her displeasure. Our home is compact and she had many occasions but chose not to.
I worked with Fiona closely because her mother was badly injured and she altered her stay. In addition, my partner was traveling.
If it’s of consequence, Fiona Hutcheon badly abused our towels; retiring 2 of them with makeup. I gave her a brief but favorable review and didn’t charge her for the towels.
We love hosting Airbnb guests and regret this outcome.
This was my first experience booking with AirBnB - and it'll be pretty hard to beat.
Bruce, his partner Mo and their dog Roxy made delightful hosts. They struck the right balance between being welcoming, helpful and personable, yet laid back and unobtrusive - just the kind of hosts I was looking for.
The pictures and description of the cottage are accurate - the bedroom and bathroom were bright and clean, with everything in working order. Good sized kitchen with ample storage space for stuff I bought from the local Mollie Stone's supermarket (about 5-10 mins walk away). Transport links were great: the nearest metro station (Castro) is a 5-10 minute walk away, and the bus 37 stops almost directly outside the front door. I used this to get to Golden Gate Park, about 10 minutes walk away from the nearest bus stop. Some might find the uphill walk from the metro to the house a bit of a pain, but I'm a big walker so didn't mind it at all.
This is a great base for anyone travelling to SF. Would definitely recommend it!
Bruce and Mo were very friendly and welcoming. As I was a tourist on my first visit to San Francisco (and first visit to the US), they provided some handy hints on things to do and places to go. The venue was clean and comfortable and the area felt safe.
For transport, the F line streetcar from Castro through the city to Fisherman's Wharf proved particularly handy for cruises and for the tours that started from the wharf.
Little Roxy always provided an excited "welcome home".
Mo & Bruce were extremely welcoming and accommodating. Their home is beautiful and they went out of their way to make me feel at ease.
