Everything worked, the bed was nice, and the place was clean. Two of the outlets had European adapters (which was a lifesaver for us) and a bunch of maps and guidebooks were in the living room. No real problems with the rental and EXCELLENT communication from the host. Reliable Internet was also great! It's literally across the street from the Colosseum, which meant that finding our way home at night, either by walking or by Metro was easy.

    Cons
As other reviewers have mentioned, the place is damp and smelled a little musty. This is because it's a basement apartment and I'm not sure much can be done about it. Over the 4 days of our stay, we got used to it (sort of) and just left the windows and doors open for a while to let the fresh air in, when we got home. We couldn't leave them open all the time because that would let a few mosquitoes in. This also meant that our laundry took a few days to dry.

It was a little far from most of the action (bars & restaurants) but my girlfriend and I LOVED walking home each night... and there was always the metro which was the stop for the Colosseum.

    Overall, a good value.

  • Michele was always quite quick to answer and accommodating: we arrived much later than anticipated as we had to catch a later flight and he arranged his friend Marcello to wait for us at the flat as late as 10.45pm!

The flat location is perfect as you are walking distance from most attractions Rome has to offer and very close to connections that lead to more remote areas (just two stops from Piramide where you catch the Train for Ostia Antica for example).

Just around the corner you have cafe Oppio which serves decent food and drinks, with a nice view over the colosseum and open until very late which is very convenient in case of late arrival like us.

Also It's a real pleasure being able to get back to the apartment after dinner, just knowing that you have to walk in the direction of the Colosseum to find your way back. (20-25 mins walk from Campo dei Fiori and most very touristic/central areas)

The flat was clean, tidy and well arranged.

The only minor gripe during our stay would be the laundry taking a lot of time to dry as the place is a bit damp.

It was really a good experience for the week we spent in Rome!

  • Spacious and very well positioned apartment right opposite the Colosseum. We loved being so close to the many ruins, restaurants and Metro line. We were three people and it was very comfortable for us. There was a small issue with mosquitoes so pack repellant.

  • I recently stayed for 4 weeks in this lovely basement flat. The location cannot be bettered; literally across the road from the Colosseum. Yes, you cannot see it from the flat itself but it is right there at your door! Check in was excellent - there was someone waiting. WIFI was strong (important for me because I worked while I was there). Michele responded very promptly and efficiently to minor issues including getting out of bed at 6.30am to 'rescue' me on the day of my departure when the cafe owners locked me in to the side gate! The only minor issue that I had was the relative lack of kitchen equipment for a long stayer who likes to cook.(Great weekend markets at Circus Maximus!) The flat does have a 'damp' smell but that is because it is a basement and it goes within you being inside for 5 minutes. The washing machine was much appreciated too. Do yourself a favour and avoid the cafes at the front; eat up the hill at Nerone if you want good honest local food; and spend most of your time in Monti (across via Cavour) where the coffee, food and bars are absolutely fantastic. I will definitely stay here again! Thanks Michele.

  • Michele was a great host. When we arrived at the apartment, there were someone waiting for us, showed us everything and the towels etc were ready for us.

The location is just fantastic, really - right outside of the colosseum. Just think, we arrived at the apartment at 4:30, and we were able to get tickets and spent leisure time in the colosseum before they close. Metro is also very close by. One of the reviewed said one can come back in the afternoon for a rest before the late evening outing - yes, we did just that.

The apartment was very clean and furnitures were all new, roomy for 4 of us, air condition was a big help as it was 30+ degrees in Rome.

Overall we really enjoyed our experience.

  • the location in fantastic - a minute away from the metro and buses, and still quiet and tucked away from the crowds. the place smells a bit damp because of the climate and the old walls, but that disappears with a little airing. The decor is charming, and everything works as it should - the acs, hot water etc. The wireless was excellent.
tips - explore the restaurants and cafes and alimentaires in the small lanes, and avoid the tourist traps on the main roads. there isnt a big supermarket around, so if you want to save on food and drink stock up on your suppliers from the Despar at Termini

  • We enjoyed our week long stay very much. Perfect location ( can't beat the view from the building, only yards from the colosseum), close to the metro and tram stops, easy walking distance from the forums and the centro storico. The apartment was very clean, very comfortable, perfect for the two of us. The location felt very safe. Having a washing machine was great--although it was humid enough in rome that it took two days for clothes to dry. Michele was easy to communicate with, promptly responded to questions, very smooth process. Highly recommended, and we would absolutely stay again when we're in Rome.

  • We enjoyed an excellent nine-day holiday in Michele’s apartment at Via Nicola Salvi. The location is perfect – it’s yards from the Colosseum but located off the street beside a couple of restaurants and along a gated area. Consequently you’re in a busy place but also quiet, and you feel safe. As for Rome, you couldn’t be more central. You can walk anywhere in the historic centre within minutes. There are fine shops in Monti nearby. Colle Oppio round the corner is a pleasant park where you can lunch in the open air. The apartment isn’t enormous but it’s well planned and laid out and gives you a feeling of space. The furniture and fittings couldn’t be bettered. The wifi was faultless. Highly recommended.

  • My friends and I stayed there for a week - great place, perfect location! Four of us felt quite comfortable in the apartment - the sofa is good enough for sleeping ;) We hardly used the metro, we preferred wandering around on foot since everything was close by :) We didn't meet Michele but communicated by e-mail and phone and had no problems at all! Totally recommended!

  • We had a wonderful trip in Rome these passed few days, made all the better by staying in Michele's superbly located, well equipped apartment. Michele promptly responded to all our questions before we arrived and when we were there via email. The one bedroom apartment was perfect for our family, with our two young boys, sharing the very comfortable sofa bed. Constant hot water and a washing machine also helped. It's location meant that walking to most of the main sights wasn't too difficult, especially for little legs, every morning and afternoon (although we took to taking the bus/metro back). With a bus stop, taxi rank and the metro station within a minute of the front door travelling around Rome couldn't be easier if you want to use public transport. There's a small Carrefour within a few minutes walk, so having a well equipped kitchen meant that we returned most lunchtimes to eat in the apartment and some evenings. It is a basement flat so does smell a bit damp, although opening the windows sorts that out. A small negative is that although there is an amazing view from the door of the Colliseum, you can't see it when you're inside. Overall we would highly recommend staying at Michele's apartment.
