Everything was great , we really loved this beautiful apartments, both beds are really comfortable. Flat is silent (we haven't heard lots of tourists near the colosseum before we were coming out to the street). And I must tell about location and view.. it's gorgeous !!! Five minutes to colosseum and Roman forum, three minutes to subway and bar next door to us. Another big plus is, if you get lost in the city you just need to ask were is colosseum and everybody gonna help you, so it's pretty easy to find your way home. We've been there for 12 days and we haven't had any problems with this apartments. I really recommend this place it's very very good!
Michele was wonderful and the apartment was as described. You literally walk out the door and see the Colosseum. The musty smell that people have commented on is definitely present but minor compared to all the joys of the apartment. Very close to the metro, clean and comfortable.
We stayed for 28 days and we commented to each other almost daily on how fortunate we were to have found this place. The depictions provided in the photographs were fully accurate. We felt immediately at home in very comfortable facilities. The location is beyond belief. It is, as represented, next to the Coliseum, and it is only a short walk to many other major sites. Grocery stores (small but typical) are a few minutes away by foot. The Metro is across the street. The lane going to the street is quite private, with a locked gate at the street. The only other user of the lane is the cafe at the corner of the building, and that closes early (around 7 pm), at which time the gate is locked except to the renters of the apartment. We always felt safe. Being next to the Coliseum and a three-minute walk from Michelangelo's famous Moses statue, it is an area filled with tourists, thus the area has lots of restaurants nearby designed to accommodate such visitors, though at night the crowds are smaller, and street noise never affected our sleep.
Some reviewers have commented on mould in the apartment. We were there in February (part of the rainy season). Also, the apartment is partly below ground level (not quite a basement, since one steps down only four steps into the living area). We found that a little bleach and sponge fixed that problem of the mould (about five-minutes effort), and mould did not start to reappear for two weeks. The problem would be considerably reduced during hotter months. Don't discount this place because of comments about mould. Mould would be fairly common anywhere in Rome in this season, from what we observed.
Our host made sure that arrangements for keys, etc. were clear, and he had someone there to open the apartment for us at the time he had specified. Although we needed to ask for nothing while we were there, our sense was that Michele would have been quick to help had we any problem.
When we travel to Rome again, we will try to make sure to do it when we could again rent this apartment.
A few pieces of advice:
(1) Bring a flashlight since it is difficult to see the keyhole at night.
(2) If more than two people are staying, let Michele know so that make there are sufficient towels.
(3) When looking for a restaurant, go a block or two back from main streets (for example, off of Cavour) to experience a bit more of the authentic modern Roman culture.
Amazing week in Michele´s apartment right in front of the Colosseum. Perfect location to explore the city, close to main station, all the major attraction are with walking distance. The appartment is very cozy, very pretty, has all the essentials and airconditioning. Michelle was waiting for us in the appartment to show it to us and also has magazines, maps and things that help you get around, also gave tips on close supermarkets, etc.
Being right in front of the Colosseum it was literally in the middle of the New Year's Firework, which was very fun and practical, metro at the door.
We stayed at Michele's Monti apartment for a week and we throughly enjoyed it.
When standing outside the apartment the Colosseum is in full view. You literally cross the road, walk down a few steps and you are there.
Right next door to the left are two restaurants, further down the hill to the left and across the road is an area called Via Giovanni. It's a very friendly gay area with very good, cheap restaurants and amazing eats! I HAVE to recommend Cremeria Don Pepe this is the best ice cream you will find in Rome, pure bliss so don't miss it!
If you were to turn right at the apartment and follow the hill you will come to even more restaurants, souvenir shops, mini-markets etc.
I recommend taking a taxi to Elite to do food shopping as the prices there are a fraction of the prices locally and much more choice! The apartment has ample kitchen facilities, bring a travel kettle if you want a quick cuppa! There is no toaster but there is a pretty good cooker with a grill for toast.
We had an issue with the boiler and hot water while we stayed but Michele was very on the ball and came to the apartment with a plumber at 10am the next morning and fixed it, then we had an electricity problem but it was sorted just as quickly. Michele is a very good host and I can't thank him enough for our experience in Rome.
Just a bit of advice for any new tourist to Rome (...we learnt the hard way!) don't get cornered by the Gladiators for pictures, they'll charge you €5 for the privilege! Totally walk past the "selfie-selfie" guys, they'll think your a local. Don't go on the guided tours unless you have time to kill, it's totally not worth it!
If you want to go shopping head for Via Del Corso and have a blast, so many shops there you could spend all day at Via Del Corso and never see all the shops! You can walk from one side of Rome to the other, but getting on an open tour bus made life so much easier for us!
As other people have said the apartment is a basement apartment and does have a slight damp smell but nothing you don't get used to. The sofa bed is very comfortable and the Wi-Fi where it isn't super fast it is super reliable.
I can recommend this apartment to anyone wishing to stay in the heart of Rome!
