Historic 1880s home in Swede Hill neighborhood, the area is loaded with Victorian period homes. It is in the ideal central Austin location, convenient to all parts of the city, but especially the vibrant central core.
First floor bedroom, aka "the pink room", has a full size bed. It is equipped with a desk, dresser, and armoire. Lots of art and books are for your pleasure. The ceiling is twelve feet tall.
There is an outside door, leading to a fenced back yard.
There is on-street parking, and a washer/dryer. We have cable internet access.
There are two friendly indoor cats.
Breakfast is included, but you might have to prepare it yourself. We always have the basics, but let us know your preferences and we'll try to have it on hand.
We have a clean, homey, simple living household. There are eclectic furnishings with lots of art and books. Central heat and air conditioning as well.
Guests have full house privileges, with the exception of the other guest room and host quarters. This includes the living room, dining room, and kitchen privileges. You may need to share a bathroom with a claw foot tub and shower, but only if there are other guests.
The back yard has a chiminea (outdoor fireplace) and a nice Capitol view, especially at night in the winter. There is a garden and a hammock. A nice pocket park is a half block away with ancient live oaks.
Interaction with Guests
Every guest has different levels of comfort or desire for interaction. We are delighted when guests are more interactive and we can go into full host mode, including tour guide and history buff. But we also honor privacy and know some people prefer minimal conversation . It is your trip and we want it to be as pleasant as possible.
We are literally within walking distance to downtown Austin and the Convention Center. Also to the University of Texas campus, Huston-Tillotson University, major museums including the Bob Bullock Texas History Museum (with IMAX), Blanton Art Museum, and the LBJ Presidential Library. Our magnificent State Capitol is essential for your Austin visit. If you don't mind a long wait, Franklin's barbeque is close by, as is the Sixth Street entertainment district. For Texas history buffs, two historic cemeteries are within walking distance, including the State Cemetery, with many notable graves, such as Albert Sydney Johnston , Audie Murphy and Stephen Austin.
There is a 2-3 block walk to the bus stop. Buses are only $2 for all day. There is a car rental within walking distance.
We have a couple of loaner bikes for free.

We have a reasonably large side yard that is fenced. Although we don't encourage pets because of our cats, it would be possible for a dog to use that space.
Outdoor smoking only. No illegal drugs. Bathroom is a short walk from bedroom, and may be shared with other guest/s, if the other room is rented out as well. Clawfoot tub, shower.
We have 3 basic bikes, which may be borrowed by guests. Helmets, locks and lights included. Austin has many bike lanes on the street, as well as the hike-and-bike trail around Ladybird Lake (the river which runs through Austin).
Guests are welcome to spend time in the living room, dining room, and kitchen as well as the back yard. If you cook, please clean up afterwards.
If you have a vehicle, you will need a residential parking tag from us when you get here.
