Interaction with Guests
Every guest has different levels of comfort or desire for interaction. We are delighted when guests are more interactive and we can go into full host mode, including tour guide and history buff. Perfect place, perfect location, perfect hosts. Loved it and highly recommend this airbnb!
Larry and Joanna are wonderful hosts - I felt very much at home from the start, and they were kind enough to lend me an umbrella for the whole of my stay as we were having some pretty bad weather and I'd forgotten to bring mine. They were always concerned to make sure I had everything I needed. Everything was exactly as described, though I didn't see much of the cats at all. The room was comfortable and pleasant to work in (I was visiting UT Austin for research), the air-conditioning was a godsend, and I could come and go as I pleased. The house and the neighbourhood are old and have great character - I really enjoyed exploring East Austin, which was much safer-feeling and friendlier than I'd expected. The house is also walking distance from UT Austin, the Capitol area, downtown and 6th Street. Overall, highly recommended as a reasonably-priced and very welcoming place to stay in Austin.
Larry and Joanna are extremely welcoming hosts and I felt instantly at ease and comfortable in their home. Communication with the hosts went smoothly and booking and check-in was very easy. Larry and Joanna's home is very charming, but it is an old house. This coupled with the hot Texas summer weather resulted in more big bug sightings in and around the house that I would have liked. However, the room is very comfortable and the bathroom was clean.
Great place, definately in walking distance of down. Soco is a little further away, few car minutes. We had a warm welcome & nice bed.
From the moment we arrived we felt welcomed and at home in Larry and Joanna's eclectic cottage. We found the location 3 minutes drive from downtown extremely convenient. They accepted our late booking which was much appreciated and went out of their way to make sure our stay in Austin was easy and enjoyable.
The hosts were very welcoming but this place was not what my girlfriend and I were expecting. Indeed, the house was pretty old and did not look very clean. The worst part of it was the bathroom as it had plastic Curtin all around the bathtub and I felt uncomfortable as it made me claustrophobic. There was no mount for the shower head so you have to hold it as you wash.
There were also large cockroach-like bugs and was pretty frightening.
I trusted the reviews but none mentioned this so now you are aware
Florian, I am sorry you and you girlfriend were not pleased. I am specially sorry you saw bugs! I do my best to thoroughly clean the house, including the bathroom, between guests. It states in the description that it is an old house- from the 1880s! As to the shower, I wish you had talked to us- there is indeed a mount to let the shower spray down without holding it, but it is handmade so you probably didn't recognize it as such.
Joanna was very welcoming and accommodating. The bed was amazingly comfortable and the room was homey. Plus sides were the cats being friendly and the walking distance to downtown. I would definitely stay here again.
