Overall Guest Satisfaction

Check In
  • Hello! I enjoyed my stay with Larry & Joanna. They are very friendly and accommodating. Joanna even bought my favorite breakfast. The bed was super soft and the room was just a short walk to the bathroom. Larry recommended a lovely 'park' (aka cemetery) just a block away for my morning run, which was fascinating. They are really nice people and the location, location, location is ideal.

  • Larry and Joanna were incredibly welcoming and hospitable. Friendly when I wanted to interact, but gave me my space as needed. The room was beautiful, and their house is a treasure trove of eclectic charm. I would definitely stay there again.

  • It was a great experience staying with Joanna and Larry for the 4 days I was in Austin. The house and the room were very cosy and of note, both of them were such great hosts. I'm very appreciative and grateful that Joanna went the extra miles to provide me different remedies for my cough and flu that eventually got better. Further, Joanna's invitation for me to go along with her for her art lessons with the kids was an experience that made this trip even more distinguished from the usual travel experiences I have had. Both Joanna and Larry are certainly more than hosts to me, they are new found friends that I would very much like to keep in touch and visit them if I'm in Austin again. Thank you for everything - the wonderful dinner before my departure, all the conversations and sharing, certainly the friendship forged over the 4 days. Joanna is such a wonderful woman and Larry such a humorous host that I'll always remember this Airbandb experience!

  • Larry and Joanna are some of the greatest hosts I have stayed with.

They had a great cosy home, with cool decorations and lots of art.

The neighbourhood is on a bit of a hill, but it's a small hill and feels very safe.

I would highly recommend staying with them to any friends.

  • Comfortable, private room. Cute cats. The hosts were very accommodating with my shifting schedule and making sure I could "check in" any time during the day. Great stay!

  • I stayed with Larry and Joanna for just over three weeks in their lovely home in Austin. They were fantastic hosts - so attentive and interested but also happy to keep their distance when I was busy. Joanna asked me before I arrived what I would like to eat for breakfast and restocked the kitchen. Since she was up before me she had a pot of coffee ready to go with breakfast - it was wonderful! Like being at home. On a few occasions they invited me out for dinner or to an event - I'm only sorry I wasn't able to take them up on their generous offer.

The room was warm and the bed was comfortable. I haven't slept so well in a while! Their cat Butch and unofficial cat Big Mama were really sweet, although not around all that much - if you aren't a cat person they really won't bother you. The hammock in the garden is a fantastic place to chill out and the washing machine and dryer were great.

Located in East Austin, their home is in a good location - close to lots of interesting restaurants and in a fantastic neighborhood that's quickly becoming the most popular in Austin. They loaned me their bike so I could cycle to work and around town on the weekends - it's only 10 minutes to downtown. They also left me a booklet they had made of nearby restaurants which was handy on evenings when I didn't have much time for dinner.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Larry and Joanna as hosts and am very much looking forward to staying with them on my next visit to Austin.

    Response from Larry And Joanna:

Thank you so much, Taka, for your positive review! We still would like to invite you to Thanksgiving at the Friends Meeting (potluck!) and to our friends' home afterwards (the vegetarian family I told you about). Also we still would like to show you more of Austin and Texas, and take you tent-camping overnight sometime! so we must keep in touch, while you are still in Austin, okay?

  • Larry and Joanna were beyond gracious! We felt very welcome the entire stay and loved getting to know them a little bit. The location is great as well, and we walked downtown everyday for SXSW.

  • Larry was a very warm and welcoming host. (Joanna was visiting grandchildren at the time of my stay, so I never met her, but I am sure she is wonderful too.) I did not meet him until my last evening in Austin because we were on different schedules, but we had a nice chat and he even serenaded me with his guitar. Larry (and Joanna) want their guests to feel like their house is their guests' home while in Austin, even offering to let me drive their extra car if I needed. The house was very quiet, the room was just as advertised. The house is about a mile and a half walk from the UT campus. I had a pleasant stay and would recommend this room to others.
