welcome to my home! you couldn't ask for a better location...I'm 1/2 mile from downtown, there are amazing food trailers all around & many cool shops & restaurants on S. 1st St...all within walking distance! Bouldin Creek runs through my backyard & there is a short trail through the woods on the other side. it's fun just to walk around & look at the eclectic mix of housing styles in my area. 78704 is the best!!
this bedroom is the Austin History Room (decorated with historical photos of Austin)...it has room on the floor for a queen size pillow top air mattress if you want to add an extra person. I have another room listed at this same location, the Zen Room. please contact me if you would like to book both rooms & I can offer you a discount! I can also rent to larger groups with enough notice.
I live on a busy street, so that means there is some street noise (worse during traffic times, often quiet at night). luckily, there are no lights or stop signs nearby...so no honking or braking, but there can be a steady flow of cars whooshing by & the occasional siren. I provide earplugs in case you are a sensitive sleeper. if you are extremely sensitive, then this might not be the place for you. :)
the Solar Sanctuary was built in 2004 on land purchased by my great-grandfather in 1930! it's a 4-star green builder home w/ solar panels (so no worries about running the a/c in the Texas heat!) & large open spaces w/ bamboo floors & high ceilings, no-VOC paint, HEPA-type filters on both a/c units & return air vents in every room.
it's an easy walk down the hill to Auditorium Shores (Reggae Fest, FunFunFun Fest, Stevie Ray Vaughan statue), the hike & bike trail, Butler Park, the Long Center for Performing Arts, Palmer Events Center & the Dougherty Arts Center...continue across the S. 1st St. bridge & you are downtown (& near the Willie Nelson statue)! it's a quick walk to the SoCo (South Congress) shopping district full of unique shops, restaurants & the legendary Continental Club! the section of S. 1st St. just south of me is becoming SoCo's equal, with fun new places popping up every day! it's a longer but pleasant walk to Zilker Park (when ACL is here the pedicabbers gather at the bottom of my hill!), the Botanical Gardens, & Barton Springs Pool (one of the best things about Austin, a lovely natural springs pool w/ 68 degree water!)
I will offer rides when I can & I love to give advice on places to hangout & things to do & see! I love to be a host to travelers, but I can also stay out of your way, whichever you prefer!
you can also schedule services with me while you are visiting! scheduling ahead of time is best. I'm often available on short notice too, just not guaranteed. I offer henna body art, henna lessons, poi (fire dancing) lessons & hula hoop lessons. It's possible I will host clients or students during your stay, but you won't have to stay out of our way!
basically, I like my guests to feel welcome...like they are visiting a friend! :)

Kim was wonderful! We arrived late at night and she welcomed us with open arms. Her house is spacious and beautiful. The location is perfect, walking distance from two of the best taco trucks in town: Torchy's and Mellizoz. Great host, great accommodations, great location, what more can you ask for?
Kim communicated all the info I needed to get in and enjoy the accommodations. The house had a nice open and airy plan, plenty of light. The location is great, close to lots of great food and down town Austin.
Perfect from the get-go! Great communication, lovely space with awesome amenities and proximity to downtown and south congress, and Kim goes above and beyond as a host and human being. Get henna, a massage, and do hula!
Kim was a gracious host! The room was clean and comfortable and we definitely took advantage of the massage chair. Kim provided great advice on things to do in town, and even checked her personal invites for suggestions. She even shared some of her hula hoop knowledge with us, gave us a place to store our bicycle, was helpful to our new local friends and insisted on giving us a ride to the airport despite our plans to walk to the bus. Kim is a wonderful host, a kind spirit and, from what I can tell, a friend to all those she meets.
Kim was wonderfully accomidating and friendly. She has a beautiful home and is the best host I've ever had! Highly recomended!!!
Great location, easy walking access to South Congress and Downtown. We loved the feeling and vibe of the place (personal knick-knacks and art with stories). Amenities were nice (soaps, morning coffee, etc). We never used the sauna or massage chair, but wish we had made time to do so. Kim was very gracious and knowledgeable of the area. We enjoyed meeting her and hope to return one day. Only drawback was the very busy street (fast traffic all day, and noise at night), only in the bedroom (you could not hear street noise in the main house). However, she provided earplugs, which was a nice touch. Bed was comfy, house was welcoming, host was super friendly.
Kim greeted us when we arrived with warmth and enthusiasm about Austin and her home. She made us feel like her home was our home for the night. Her home was extremely clean and friendly. Location was great for our planned activities. Road noise was a bit more than we expected; but it was Saturday night in Austin!

I was born in Austin & both sides of my family have been here for generations! I love south Austin & the 78704 area & I'm a huge longhorn football fan! I was stuck in Houston from the ages of 8-18, but during that time we visited Austin every chance we got. I came back here in 1984 to attend UT (Economics degree) & never left. I am proud of my city & love to share it with travelers! I'm self-employed...doing all natural henna body art since 1997, teaching poi (fire dancing) since 1998 & teaching hula hooping since 2006. I sometimes perform & teach workshops, & I help people with their tattoo or logo designs.
