my home is a magical sanctuary!! you also couldn't ask for a better can see downtown from the front sidewalk (1/2 mile)! there are amazing food trailers across the street & many cool shops & restaurants on S. 1st St., all within walking distance. Bouldin Creek runs through my backyard & there is a short trail through the woods on the other side. it's fun just to walk around & look at the eclectic mix of housing styles in my area. 78704 is the best!! this bedroom is the Zen Room. I also have another room listed at this same location, the Austin History Room, and I rent to larger groups as well. there is ambient street noise (worse during the day, usually quiet at night), I provide earplugs in case you are a sensitive sleeper.

the Solar Sanctuary was built in 2004 on land purchased by my great-grandfather in 1930! it's 4-star green builder home w/ solar panels (so no worries about running the a/c in the Texas heat!) & large open spaces w/ bamboo floors & high ceilings, no-VOC paint, HEPA-type filters on both a/c units & return air vents in every room.

easy walk down the hill to Auditorium Shores (Reggae Fest, FunFunFun Fest & more), the hike & bike trail & the Long Performing Arts Center...continue across the S. 1st St. bridge & you are downtown! quick walk to the SOCO shopping district full of unique shops, restaurants & the legendary Continental Club. longer but pleasant walk to Zilker Park (where ACL Festival is held), the Botanical Gardens, & Barton Springs Pool (one of the best things about Austin, a lovely natural springs pool w/ 68 degree water!) I will offer rides when I can & I love to give advice on places to hangout & things to do & see! I love to be a host to travelers, but I can also stay out of your way, whichever you prefer!

  • My stay was brief but delightful as Kim met me at the door, we chatted for a while, I crashed shortly thereafter and left early in the morning. Kim's house is very special and she is the perfect airbnb hostess because she really enjoys meeting her guests. She has my highest recommendation.

  • I really wanted to sit and think through this review before leaving one because Kim was such a phenomenal host, with the greatest house and location, so I needed to make sure I did her/the house the justice it deserves (all within 500 words!).
We were in town to celebrate my birthday weekend, and our first time in Austin, and chose to stay with Kim because of her positive reviews, along with the house's excellent location. We left with our expectations totally exceeded. From the moment we stepped foot into Kim’s gorgeously open and ocean-breezy, amazing space, we felt at home. I never knew so much positivity could come from one person – seriously, she’s fabulous. She was never without a suggestion of something very personalized and incredibly fun to do. She's incredibly accommodating. We got to spend a great night out listening to some local live music with Kim and a couple of her other airbnb guests. Speaking of the other airbnb guests, they were both really nice (Kim is a great judge of character) and respectful of Kim's place and our space, as well. There were no issues sharing the bathroom or any of the amenities and Kim had time for us all (top of the line stuff, might I add – seriously, I am picky about shampoo :)). We had some great conversation and felt like we learned so much about Austin and the great events and people.
On top of Kim being the top 5 people I have ever met, the house is truly amazing. The massage chair she has is to die for (I can attest, I used it at least 6 times) and it sits in an upstairs foyer with big windows that let in some great light. The room and bed were comfortable and there were plenty of blankets and pillows for us both. Kim likened the cars passing by to ocean waves crashing and as mild as the sound was, it really did give a soothing zen feeling (savasana-esque for all the yogis). Really, we couldn't have asked for more and can only hope the rest of our Airbnb experiences come anywhere close!

  • My experience at Kims house was amazing! The location could not have been any better for exploring Austin. Her home is beutifully decorated and a peaceful retreat. There is a massage chair that I took advantage of after a long day of walking through the city. Kim is such a gracious host. Not only was she available with any questions about the city, but she is a wealth of knowledge too! I was greeted with a warm hug when we first met each other at the door, and told that a Hula Hoop lesson was in store for me! Kim also offered me a ride if I needed to get somewhere in the city, if she was available, which was above & beyond what I would have expected from a host. I did take her up on that offer to get a ride to the airport when I left town. I was so sad to leave Kims house & her warm hospitality. I will be back to Austin soon, and there is no other home or person I would rather stay with than Kim! The house is situated on a busy street in Austin, so there is a bit of street noise. But that is normal for being in a wonderful location in the city. You can walk to several food trucks & restaurants right outside the front door which proved to be very helpful. I left Kims home feeling like part of her own family and I cant wait to go back for another visit! THANK YOU KIM! YOU ARE THE BEST! :)

  • I normally book an entire apartment, but Kim's place looked so compelling that I gave it a try. And now...I am already thinking about when I can return to Kim's gorgeous home. I LOVED it. Kim is a remarkably warm and welcoming host. She immediately offered me use the kitchen, showed me how to use her special German coffee maker, encouraged me to sit in the massage chair or just relax wherever I liked. In addition to Kim's kindness, I especially liked the airy lightness of the house and the new bed which was fabulous.

Kim had a parking place for me. During peak traffic times, it took me a half a minute to wait for traffic to clear before I could scoot out, but that is all. Excellent location (and beware the delicious donut food truck just a block away!)

And Kim taught me to hoola hoop! (You must watch her hoola hoop. Grace in action...)

  • The experience was great, what awesome accommodations and great people. Kim was friendly and generous. There's a sauna, massage chair as well as other amenities, and the place itself is exceptionally clean and inviting. Also the location couldn't be better for exploring Austin. Stu, Kim's other half, is terrifically creative and good to talk to as well. Simply cannot be beat for the price! Oh yeah, definitely take Kim up on the free hoop lesson, what a blast!

  • The house is lovely and Kim is a splendid and generous host. She is dynamic and brimming with enthusiasm for and knowledge of the Austin arts and community scene. Kim guided us perfectly on public transport and bicycle rental and made space in here well organized garage for our bikes. While we were initially a bit surprised by the noise of the traffic hurrying along the arterial road beneath our second floor bedroom window, we quickly adapted, aided by the easy and welcoming vibe of the home.

  • Kim was absolutely fab. I really enjoyed my stay here, just wish it could have been longer than two days. I'll definitely be paying a visit when I'm back in Austin. Thanks Kim!

  • Super high energy! I think Kim single-handedly powers Austin.

    Helpful, welcoming, considerate. Great hostess.

  • I enjoyed my stay at Kim's house very much. She was a very welcoming and knowledgeable host, and this is a great central location to explore Austin from.

  • The Solar Sanctuary was quite the stay, an unforgettable one to say the least. The amenities were beyond what I had imagined and Kim is a great host with plenty of interesting stories to share. You will find out soon enough that Kim has a great passion for hooping, so much so that you will not leave the house without trying it.

Self Employed and Loving It!
I was born in Austin & both sides of my family have been here for generations! I love south Austin & the 78704 area & I'm a huge longhorn football fan! I was stuck in Houston from the ages of 8-18, but during that time we visited Austin every chance we got. I came back here in 1984 to attend UT (Economics degree) & never left. I am proud of my city & love to share it with travelers! I'm self-employed...doing all natural henna body art since 1997, teaching poi (fire dancing) since 1998 & teaching hula hooping since 2006. I sometimes perform & teach workshops, & I help people with their tattoo or logo designs.
