welcome to my home! you couldn't ask for a better location...I'm 1/2 mile from downtown, there are amazing food trailers all around & many cool shops & restaurants on S. 1st St...all within walking distance! Bouldin Creek runs through my backyard & there is a short trail through the woods on the other side. it's fun just to walk around & look at the eclectic mix of housing styles in my area. 78704 is the best!!
this bedroom is the Zen Room. I have another room listed at this same location, the Austin History Room. please contact me if you would like to book both rooms & I can offer you a discount! I can also rent to larger groups with enough notice.
I live on a busy street, so that means there is some street noise (worse during traffic times, often quiet at night). luckily, there are no lights or stop signs nearby...so no honking or braking, but there can be a steady flow of cars whooshing by & the occasional siren. I provide earplugs in case you are a sensitive sleeper. if you are extremely sensitive, then this might not be the place for you. :)
the Solar Sanctuary was built in 2004 on land purchased by my great-grandfather in 1930! it's a 4-star green builder home w/ solar panels (so no worries about running the a/c in the Texas heat!) & large open spaces w/ bamboo floors & high ceilings, no-VOC paint, HEPA-type filters on both a/c units & return air vents in every room.
it's an easy walk down the hill to Auditorium Shores (Reggae Fest, FunFunFun Fest, Stevie Ray Vaughan statue), the hike & bike trail , Butler Park, the Long Center for Performing Arts, Palmer Events Center, & the Doughery Arts Center...continue across the S. 1st St. bridge & you are downtown (& near the Willie Nelson statue)! it's a quick walk to the SoCo (South Congress) shopping district full of unique shops, restaurants & the legendary Continental Club! the section of S. 1st St. just south of me is becoming SoCo's equal, with fun new places popping up every day! it's a longer but pleasant walk to Zilker Park (when ACL is here the pedicabbers gather at the bottom of my hill!), the Botanical Gardens, & Barton Springs Pool (one of the best things about Austin, a lovely natural springs pool w/ 68 degree water!)
I will offer rides when I can & I love to give advice on places to hangout & things to do & see! I love to be a host to travelers, but I can also stay out of your way, whichever you prefer!
you can also schedule services with me while you are visiting! scheduling ahead of time is best. I'm often available on short notice too, just not guaranteed. I offer henna body art, henna lessons, poi (fire dancing) lessons & hula hoop lessons. It's possible I will host clients or students during your stay, but you won't have to stay out of our way!
basically, I like my guests to feel welcome...like they are visiting a friend! :)

Kim was an awesome host. My girlfriend and I loved the private room. The house is awesome and in a great location to explore South Austin. Highly recommend.
We had a wonderful long weekend stay with Kim. It was our first time AirBnB'ing in a room within an owner-occupied home, and let me tell you, it could not have been a more enjoyable experience. The house is great--cool, clean, comfortable, and a $5 Uber ride into downtown and walkable to S. Congress and the Hyatt hotel where I had a convention to attend.
And Kim herself is a delightful host. She gave us a great tip on using public transport to get to her, and within minutes of arriving offered to take us swimming with her to a locals-only swimming hole in the Austin greenbelt! We NEVER would have known of the place, or been able to get there, otherwise. On Sunday we went on a fun excursion to Barton Springs with her, as well. But here's the great thing about Kim: she is totally chill and goes with the flow. If you have things to do--work, or your own social agenda, she's hands-off and focused on her own fascinating interests. But she's game to show you Austin, too, and boy does she know a lot about the city.
Great time. If I return next year for the same work conference, I'll book again!
Kim was a great host and very welcoming. Her Solar Sanctuary was the perfect place for my trip and she made me feel just like family.
What can be said about the Solar Sanctuary and its magnificent host Kim that hasn't been said?
I had an absolutely incredible experience at this place. It is the epitome of what I have always imagined an Airbnb experience to be. The room is comfortable and the place is clean. You may meet other amazing people while you're there. As a fellow host, I was still blown away by Kim and her warmth. From the moment I arrived I felt welcomed and comfortable.
This short story will summarize my experience: on the final day I hadn't had a chance to see Kim yet, and I arrived home late at night. I was feeling sad that I wouldn't be able to say goodbye as I opened the door. To my surprise she was still awake sitting by the fire. We chatted for another hour at least before saying bye. :)
Kim is a wonderful, welcoming host! Her home is just as described, full of light and in a great spot. Walking distance to delicious food and fun shopping. Thanks for making my stay in Austin even more memorable Kim :)
Amazing location with a lot of good place to eat in a walking distance! very quite area but close to downtown Austin!
My wife and I think Kim's is amazing. I just thought I'd get that out of the way for those review skimmers. My wife and I spent 3 wonderful nights in Kim's beautiful home, and I wouldn't change a thing. Kim was our first AirBnB host on our first trip to Austin and she knew exactly how to ease us in to the idea of home sharing.
We arrived late on a Friday night and Kim met us with a kind hello and a simple greeting. It was obvious that we needed a few minuets to get our bearings, so she let us chill out for a bit. After playing around in her massage chair for a long while we meandered down and met Kim. She was warm and welcoming and recommended we wander along first street and check out the local food trucks that line south first. There was something about her perfect mix of her personal kick-ass attitude and professionalism that made me know we were going to have a lovely stay at chez Kim.
Kim's place also has a trampoline. So that's super cool.

About the Host, Kim
I was born in Austin & both sides of my family have been here for generations! I love south Austin & the 78704 area & I'm a huge longhorn football fan! I was stuck in Houston from the ages of 8-18, but during that time we visited Austin every chance we got. I came back here in 1984 to attend UT (Economics degree) & never left. I am proud of my city & love to share it with travelers! I'm self-employed...doing all natural henna body art since 1997, teaching poi (fire dancing) since 1998 & teaching hula hooping since 2006. I sometimes perform & teach workshops, & I help people with their tattoo or logo designs.
