This is a great spot on the water for those who love the outdoors as it's surrounded by woods and water with the Ottawa River, trails, beautiful beaches and fishing spots to explore. For those less outdoorsy, enjoy your own balcony or screened porch and know town is 20 mins away with shopping, restaurants and entertainment. There is lots of open space for kids to romp. We have both shallow and deep water for swimming. We're located near white water rafting country and pick your own fruit farms.

The space
This is a very nice place right on the river and exactly as described on the website. The cottage was super clean and very well equipped. You can swim in the river from a new dock or a small beach and the water is beautiful. The children's bedrooms are especially nice with plenty of room for a large family and we found the washer and dryer and large kitchen very useful. There are games for rainy days and a screened in porch for the evening as well as a big BBQ. Our kids also liked the sandy ground outside where they built castles etc. And the large field for running around in.

This cottage is designed for comfort and fun. It's cheerful, bright and family-friendly. We have a dishwasher, microwave and washer & dryer. The master bathroom hosts a shower with plenty of room for you and a couple of small kids (great for a hose down before bed). The upstairs bathroom has a tub.

There is a private balcony, a covered porch, a screened porch, and an open porch. Even if you're not the outdoors type you can still enjoy yourself.

We're stocked with games and movies (large TV screen and DVD player on site) for rainy days. Currently we're not hooked up to cable or the internet and are really enjoying being disconnected. You should also know we don't have cell service. You can get reception in the general area but will have to leave the property to do so.

Our wildlife is an exciting aspect of our property so we are trying to strike a balance between people and nature. In early summer the show the fireflies put on is other worldly. Last summer we followed the growth and silly antics of 25 ish (too hard to count, lol!) baby turkeys and their mamas as they grazed our meadow. We have leopard frogs that love to leap into the longer grass as you walk down to the dock and pretty wildflowers on the river bank. If you're an early bird you can catch a glimpse of our beautiful deer and her frisky fawn. If you're really lucky you might spot our platter sized turtle on her way across the cottage front to lay her eggs. If you love birds we have lots of frequent fliers. It's always fun to see who has dropped by for a visit.

In the water there's a shallow ledge along our waterfront 10-15' wide before a deeper drop off. The pond behind us has become host to water lilies and is very pretty too. We have started to clear an area in front of the cottage for a new beach.

We are new owners and in the process of re-imaging the property. We're looking forward to natural gardens, a permanent firepit for stories of grit & glory (and marshmallow smeared faces, hands, hair...) as well as a permanent badminton/volleyball pit.

To manage summer heat we have ceiling fans in the main areas and each bedroom has a portable fan. During extreme heat, (40 plus degrees C as we experienced the last two summers ) closing the windows and curtains during the day and opening up the cottage in the evening keep things cool. The best part about the heat is getting in the river to cool off and lounging in the water and on the dock.

The cottage rents from Saturday night to Friday night (check out is Saturday morning) during late June, July and August. Multiple weeks are available if the calendar permits. Please ensure you check your dates when booking to be sure your request is accepted. The best of summer is the cottage!

Guest access
You have access to the whole cottage.

Other things to note
If you have small/young children we encourage you to bring personally fitted life jackets.

You may be able to send and receive texts and emails from the dock. We have a phone on site for emergencies.

Location

Waltham, Québec, Canada

Waltham is within walking distance. There's a great little general store with very friendly owners. Waltham also hosts a playground as well as walking trails. If you enjoy baseball you can catch a local game. Be sure to bring some change for the popsicle stand.

A small casino at the River Club is 10 minutes away with a nice restuarant, friendly service and good food.

Pembroke is 20 mins door to door with shopping and restaurants including all the usual suspects. There are at least three grocery stores to choose from and lots of fresh local produce to be had on the edge of town. There's a cinema at the local mall beside the food court.

Pembroke has a pretty waterfront park to be enjoyed too with weekly activities throughout the summer like Movie in the Park, bandshell concerts and yoga classes. Brum's Dairy and icecream shop is a delicious stop after a movie or concert at the waterfront.

There's great live music both in town and at Fort William, a popular beach front restaurant and bar. August is great for blueberry picking at local farms and making glorious pies. Oiseau Rock Hiking Trail has fantastic panoramic views, a beautiful beach and pond for a lovely swim. Bring your tubes, canoes or kayaks and enjoy a relaxing few hours of floating down the Black River. Want even more excitement, book a trip down the Ottawa River with local rafting companies.

Hi my name is Paula. I'm married with a young family. We enjoy the outdoors, boating, fishing, and swimming. I'm a DIYer and love to create beautiful surroundings. I love to putter in the garden, make delicious breakfasts and hang about with family and friends on warm afternoons. One of my favourite things to do is walk about and see what nature is up to in the moment. Our family hopes you'll enjoy the cottage as much as we do.
