The space

This house for rent is in a historical circular village in the Languedoc that dates from 1000 AD. The front wall of the house was part of the protective wall around the village. The circular staircase that connects the three floors indicates the house was once the tower of the castle. It is a clean, uncluttered space that is good for relaxing and disconnecting from distractions. The floor plan is open but the bathrooms are private. The house fits two comfortably. Upstairs has two twin beds that can be pushed together to make a double or pulled apart. The living room sofa can be made up into a double bed as well so you could fit one more person or a couple. Maximum 4 people. There is a radio but no TV, no telephone and no internet. A perfect retreat ! You can go to the library up the street to get WiFi connection if you need to. This is a great space for artists and writers because of the calm village atmosphere and lack of distractions. At night you can see the stars and hear the sounds of birds. No traffic. You can walk or cycle along the country roads that connect the various villages around the area. The kitchen is fully equipped. You can sit in the living room and watch the play of light over the vineyards as the sun goes down. In the summer months you can also watch plays or hear music in the amphitheater. Because it is in a wine growing area, you can go wine tasting at the various domains around. Puimisson also has wines of note that you can find at the Butcher shop or in the Cave Cooperative.

Guest access

Guests have access to a fully equipped kitchen. I supply clean linens and towels.
They may use the bicycle to explore the area.
There is a wardrobe with hangers for guests on the top floor.
The only thing off limits is the closed storage locker on the top floor with our personal belongings.

Interaction with guests

Guests will be put in contact with my house guardian who will make sure the key is in the lock box for them upon arrival. The house guardian, who lives in a nearby village, will also be on hand to answer any questions or take care of any issues they may have during your stay. I will be available by email. You will get the code to the lock box after reservation is confirmed.

The neighborhood

Puimisson is a very quiet wine village in the Languedoc. It is a calm and friendly village. Most people greet each other as they pass on the street. Once you park your car there you won't have to use it again. Every place in the village can be reached on foot. You will find a bakery shop, a Tabac Presse, a small grocery shop, post office, a hairdresser and a friendly bar/cafe with a terrace. A very good restaurant opened in the summer of 2015. If you like to play boules, you can try it out on the main square in the center of town just a 1 minute walk from the house. The village is 15 minutes from Béziers by car or bus if you want to get into the city. There is a bus stop in the village. It is 30 minutes from the beach and 20 minutes from various historical sites like the Chateau de Cassan, Pezenas, the Chateau de Margon and the Chateau de Pouzoulles. You have many wonderful day trips you can take; into the Cevennes to see historical villages like St. Guilhem le Desert and and several fantastic caves such as La Grotte des Clamouses and La Grotte Desmoiselles. In the other direction there is the medieval citadel of Carcassone, the Minerve and the villages along the Orb river. And that is just a start! I will have a detailed pamphlet with suggestions for restaurants, places to visit and more about the house waiting for you when you get to the house.

Getting around

There is a bus to Béziers central bus station.
There is a small train station in the nearby village of Magalas (3k) and the main station Béziers which has a TGV connection to Paris and to Barcelona. You can rent a car near the train station or the airport from a few car rental agencies including Europcar. Béziers Vias airport is 15 min away with connections to Paris, Bremen, Dusseldorf, Olso, Stockholm, London, Bristol and Manchester.

Other things to note

As a host I am looking to share this lovely home with others when I am not using it. I love to travel, read and ride horses. I speak English, French and Spanish and used to live in Spain for five years, in France for two.
