Interaction with Guests
You can chose your level of interaction; keep your privacy or join whoever of the family are in our home at the time.
Sonia, my mother, lives at Rosslyn and is a great hostess and I spend about half the year here.
Thigiri, or New Muthaiga, was until the 1970s a large coffee estate when it was sold for residential 1 acre plots. Our home, Rosslyn, preceeding the development, was built by Andy Anderson, a hunter, in 1919.
Rosslyn is a 5 minute drive to the Village Market, 7 minutes to the United Nations offices at Gigiri (more at peak times), 10 minutes to Westlands, 20 minutes to downtown Nairobi, 45 minutes to JKIA International Airport and Wilson Airport. These last 3 times increase at peak traffic times.
If you need a taxi we can arrange one for you at reasonable rates.
We are close to the beautiful Karura Forest which offers hundreds of hectares of safe walking, running, biking. Small antelope and monkeys can be seen.
You can walk to Village Market (25 minutes), matatus (local public transport vans) are ubiquitous, or have your own vehicle or taxi (can be recommended).
We prefer that you don't smoke in your bedroom or in the living areas of our home, but outside on our 2 spacious verandahs and in the garden is fine. Thanks for understanding.
This was my third-time staying at Bruce's place. His mother, as always is a very warm and welcoming host. It is my favourite place to stay in Nairobi mainly due to its great location and peaceful atmosphere. I would recommend this place to anyone.
My stay here was superb. A fantastic experience - it felt like stepping back into a by gone era. I was welcomed by Sonia - Bruce's mother. She is a charming lady and went out of her way to make me feel welcome. Just meeting her is worth the trip alone!
Bruce and Sonia were excellent hosts and provided wonderful hospitality. This gorgeous home in Nairobi offers wonderful scenery to enjoy this beautiful historic place. The accommodations were very good, everything was clean and breakfast was great! I would highly recommend staying here if you are in Nairobi and you have an appreciation for relaxing in a piece of history.
This was my second stay at the "Constant Gardener" house and I wouldn't hesitate to stay again when I travel to Nairobi. Bruce's mum Sonya, is very welcoming and a wonderful host.
I enjoyed my stay immensely and was made to feel extremely welcome. The location was serene and away from the hustle of the city. I would happily recommend this to anyone.
The house is charming and the grounds are beautiful. A highlight was breakfast on the verandah every morning overlooking the garden. I stayed in the larger single room. I'd recommend this room as it has the sink and is next door to the bathroom. Bruce was very easy to book with and his mum Sonia was a lovely host.
This was my second stay at Bruce's place and I was more than happy with everything. I got a room upgrade which I was especially pleased with ;-) Thanks! The Constant Gardener has become my first choice whenever I have to be in Nairobi/New Muthaiga for a few days.
