The space
This listing is for a Private One Bedroom Apartment (you get the entire apartment).

This apartment is a bright & spacious 2nd floor unit. The bedroom is outfitted with comfy bedding, linens and blankets. Large open living & kitchen space provides plenty of room to spread out and make yourself at home. You'll find pots, pans, silverware, plates/bowls/cups in the kitchen.

The apartment is outfitted and dedicated space to welcome guests.

This is a 2nd floor apartment. Accessing the unit requires climbing two flights of stairs (indoors).

Bedroom features large skylights.

Skylights are lightly draped to provide a barrier from the sun/heat in summer but still allow plenty of light thru.

The skylight is approximately 9ft high above ceiling height in the shape of a prism.

Because the skylight is made up of a series windows that create a very large open space above the ceiling of the apartment, sitting on top of the flat roof of the building, it is possible and likely that you will hear birds chirping away. They love soaking up the heat of the roof.
[you'll find a doodle of what this looks like in the photos in order to help you understand the skylight construction and shape]

There are a total of 3 units in the building, including this one.

Myself on the mainfloor, and another apartment across the hall from you.

The building is clean and quiet.
Longterm tenants are clean, quiet.

The building is a large commercial space renovated to accommodate residential living.

The building is a large brick building, undergoing a facelift. There are pictures of the most recent exterior look in the photos section. The building is currently brown brick with a blue facade portion.

It has seen various versions of ugly while being stripped back and renovated.

I've repeated this often because I'm not trying to trick you or surprise you with this.

The exterior is under renovation and has been all kinds of different colours and at different levels of complete.

Exterior photos are available in the photo section. The most up to date photo is changed and updated as I make significant and obvious progress (paint colour change, windows changed, etc.) There is a lot of work that happens that doesn't provide a dramatic visual difference. (Exterior photos included and changed as significant/noticeable progress achieved)

I address this and other things in their respective description sections because ugly surprises aren't fun;)... especially on vacation!

I'm a big fan of accuracy when traveling and hosting. An accurate description goes a long way in helping you decide if this is the place for you. If there is anything at all you are wondering about or you'd like more information about please send me a message. I love answering questions. For real. I want you to have a good stay while you visit Thunder Bay and sometimes that means my apartment isn't perfect for you. That's okay. I'll help you find a place that is perfect for you.

You'll find a lot of photos showing all rooms from all angles as well as very long descriptions in each section.

The property is located on the Southside of the city. With convenient access to the city centre (Intercity Mall, Movie Theatre, Restaurants).

The building is located on a primary roadway that is busy during the day. The roadway sees alot of thru traffic.

There is free street parking available to guests in front of the building. Parking at the front of the building is also closest to your entrance. Calendar parking is in effect throughout the winter months. With alternate parking available.

There is convenient access to Mainline bus routes (South and Northbound).

If you have questions about how far something is let me know and I'll figure it out depending on your method of transportation.

You will also find that Airbnb has a map to help show you where you will be staying (available for every listing on Airbnb). You can specifically search to find a rental close to your reason for visiting the city if that is important to you.

The neighbourhood is made up primarily of commercial use buildings with some light industrial use (train tracks) one block to rear of the property (noted on the map).

You will not find cafes and boutiques in the immediate area but they are nearby.

The neighbourhood itself is made up of similar buildings. Most housing street level/mainfloor commercial use spaces and second story residential spaces. There are bodyshops, car lots and supply stores in the area, not cafes and boutiques.

The area is undergoing some redevelopment but a little slowly as people like myself take to renovating one giant building at a time;)

It is a large brick building with the street facing side under renovation.

Throughout the Spring, Summer and Fall exterior work will continue as weather permits. The exterior of the building is brown brick with blue accent colour.

*important* The building is a large brick building and not a typical single family home. It is important that potential guests see and understand this before choosing to stay here. I'm big on accuracy:) ... like the exterior of the building being under renovation. Common areas, like the hallway and laundry room are seeing a slow makeover between guest stays (so that it doesnt interfere with guests) There's no reason to surprise guests with that.
Renovations have been underway for more than a year and restoration takes time. It isn't a weekend project.

If you have any questions please don't be shy... ask away. As a host I love to make sure you have everything you need including the information you require to make a decision regarding your stay. That means providing as much detail as possible. That's why you'll find all the details (the good, the bad and the ugly) laid out throughout the description and in each of the respective sections.

You'll also find alot of photos that provide a clear view of the apartment, bedrooms and the general space (no deceiving tight shots;) )

It is very important that you read the entirety of the description, each section provides valuable information that you may need to make a decision regarding your potential stay. I don't like ugly surprises and so I have made a point to list the good, the bad and the ugly for you. Thorough descriptions have been provided to help you make a decision about your stay.

Where you’ll be

Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada

The property is located on the Southside of the city on a main city artery/busy roadway. With convenient access to the city centre (Intercity Mall, Movie Theatre, Restaurants).

You will also find that Airbnb provides a map to help show you the area where you will be staying (available for every listing on Airbnb). You can specifically search to find a rental close to your reason for visiting the city if that is important to you.

If you have questions about how far/close something is let me know:)

There is free street parking available to guests at the front of the building. Calendar/Seasonal parking in effect during the winter months. With alternate parking nearby. There is an empty lot a one side of the building that businesses in the area, longterm tenants and many short term guests use for parking. However it is not my property and I am unable to maintain because I do not own it.

There is convenient access to Mainline bus routes (South and Northbound).

The neighbourhood is made up primarily of commercial use buildings with some light industrial use (train tracks) one block to rear of the property. (As noted on the map)

The neighbourhood itself is made up of similar buildings. Most housing street level/mainfloor commercial use spaces and second story residential spaces. There are bodyhsops and commercial supply stores in the area and not cafes and boutiques.

The building is located on a primary roadway that can be busy during the day.

The area is undergoing some redevelopment although it is happening a little slowly as people like myself take to working on one giant building at a time;)

That being said the exterior of the building has NOT yet seen all the love that the interior has. It is ugly. There are photos of the exterior in it's most current state of renovation. Currently, brick work is ongoing, portions of the face of the building have been removed and replaced with windows and a new facade. Exterior work continues through the Spring, Summer and Fall to make the outside of the building look pretty will continue, weather permitting. (Primarily painting at this point with some decorative pieces going up). Currently the exterior is brick with a blue facade portion facing the street side.

Interior work on common areas like hallway/stairway and laundry room happen between guest stays so as not to interfere with guests.
*most up to date look in the photos section*.

There is some foot traffic in the neighbourhood but primarily vehicle traffic as the businesses that do exist are not really boutique shopping. (Consist primarily of bodyshops, a *community centre with programming a few days monthly, some antique warehouses, car sales lots, construction supply businesses and recently an artists studio share space are the main businesses/neighbours).

*Community resource centre has increased services to the community recently. I'm assuming to meet the additional needs of the community during covid. Those accessing the service are required to line up so it's possible that you may see people in need accessing services nearby. It's a reality. It's not something that has affected me in a negative way, I feel very strongly that they are doing important work. I always confirm that you know this and other description details prior to accepting your stay. It's important that you know as much as possible to decide if this is a good spot for you:)*

There are restaurants nearby.

I work shift work so I come and go at all hours (late nights, early mornings. I work primarily night shifts with some early morning day shifts. ) for work as well to care for/walk my dog. I also spend a lot of time working in the yard and outside during the summer and because this type of renovation is more than a weekend warrior project;)

If you have any questions please don't be shy.

As a host, I love to make sure you have everything you need including the information you require to make a decision regarding your stay. That means providing as much detail as possible.

You need to make a choice about your stay that you are happy with and I'm happy to help any way I can:)

I've always enjoyed thorough descriptions as a guest. Detailed descriptions and alot of photos clearly showing the space help me make my choice when traveling.
