We invite you to explore the legends of the "Loomis Gang" and Nine Mile Swamp. Located near the Village of Waterville in Central Leatherstocking Country of New York State. Waterville is known for the notorious family of outlaws, The Loomis Gang, the largest Organized Crime Family in 19th Century America. Loomis Lair is where the Loomis Homestead once stood, before it was burned by a local vigilante Mob in 1866. Waterville was also known as the Hop Capital of the Country from the mid 1800's to the mid 1900's and is the birth place of George Eastman, who founded the Eastman Kodak Company.

Recreational activities abound with Canoeing and Fishing in the near-by Sangerfield River in Nine Mile Swamp, Hiking, X-country Skiing, Snowmobiling and Horseback Riding are close-by at the Charles E. Baker State Forest, a continuous unit of State Land that encompasses 9,414 acres. It is one of the largest solid blocks of NYS public lands outside the Catskills and the Adirondack forest preserves. The Beaver Creek State Forest and the Brookfield Rail Road State Forest also provide good outdoor recreational opportunities.

Loomis Lair consists of 4 private acres with wonderful views and hiking trails. Conveniently located near both Route 20 and Route 12 and is less than 10 miles to the Village of Hamilton, home of Colgate University. Make Loomis Lair your centrally located base of operations for your vacation to Central New York State.

Where I went to school: Rochester Institute of Technology
This is a picture of me while Canoeing the Sangerfield River in the beautiful Nine Mile Swamp. The Yurt at Loomis Lair is located nearby, perched high above the Swamp. I grew-up in Hamilton, NY, the home of Colgate University, which is about 10 miles from Loomis Lair. I went to School at Morrisville College (AAS-Mechanical Engineering Technology), Excelsior College (BS-Art and Design) and Rochester Institute of Technology (MFA- Industrial Design). I have lived and worked in New Haven, CT, Los Angeles, CA, Rochester, Ithaca and Hamilton, NY. I have designed and fabricated Exhibits and Furniture for many years and I have more recently taught Industrial Design and Graphic Design at the college level. I have been involved with the historic restoration of two houses and I was also a founding Board Member and the Secretary of the City Point Historic District Neighborhood Association in New Haven, CT. I missed not being around the beautiful forests and fields of Central New York. I wanted to return to my roots in a place that I love and work toward achieving a more self-sustainable lifestyle. I am the founder, owner and operator of Loomis Lair Yurt Rentals, since March of 2010. Michael Yurt at Loomis Lair, Waterville, NY
