The yurt is such an amazing place to stay, and Michael is a wonderfully accommodating host. This was our third visit, and each time we have more fun! We were able to unwind both indoors and while exploring the land. We'll definitely be back again!

If you are looking for a unique and gorgeous spot to stay in, try this yurt! It is cozy and comfortable, and Michael is a very attentive host. He checks in to make sure everything is ok and is very quick to reply when you contact him. The location is an easy drive (<20 minutes) to Colgate, so if you want an alternative to options right in Hamilton, this is an excellent choice!

The yurt is clean and well laid out. The views from the yurt are unbeatable. Our dog had a lovely time running around the large property. Michael was very available throughout our stay. It was wonderful to visit his ducks and goats as well.

The yurt was a fantastic way to spend a short weekend visiting the area. It was much more enjoyable than a stuffy standard hotel room and MUCH more beautiful. Michael was an excellent host ensuring we had everything we needed and keeping us up to date with the changing winter weather conditions. In all it was an amazing, albeit short, trip!

Last Thursday when staying with my parents during our new home renovations got a little too much to bear, my husband and I decided a spur of the moment trip was needed. I spent Thursday looking for secluded rentals on Airbnb and when I came across the yurt I knew I found what we were in need of! Absolute seclusion. We booked the yurt at Loomis Lair Thursday night and after a long thorough phone call with Michael (owner) I felt more than prepared. Michael reminded me to bring towels and hats (which of course were gathered but never packed! We found a Dollar General in Hamilton close by which had both things), advised us to bring a 4WD car because they were expecting snow up there, and told me a little bit about the area and advised me to check out their website too. When we arrived late Friday night I received a text from Michael that there was no need to meet up that night as he was sure we needed some peace and quiet after a long work day and car ride to top it off. (We never did meet up with Michael over the weekend as it snowed the entire time we were there and I don't think any of us wanted to leave the warmth of indoors.) I was fighting a cold all weekend, while we didn't get out to explore other than a small walk with our two pups (who LOVED the open space and ability to run around in the snow) we were never bored. The yurt was cozy and warm, tight quarters but not too tight! It was just absolute perfection. The views and sereneness of Michael's property can't be beat. We listened to the classical music station, which was left on the radio when we arrived, all weekend while playing cards, games, reading about the Loomis family, and lounging. The yurt has everything you need, electric cook-top, mini-fridge/freezer, toilet, shower, heat, floors and walls. My husband and I can't wait to book the yurt again in warmer weather (and when I'm not sick) so we can get out and explore the property and area a lot more!

Michael User ProfileMichael is a superhost.

This is a picture of me while Canoeing the Sangerfield River in the beautiful Nine Mile Swamp. The Yurt at Loomis Lair is located nearby, perched high above the Swamp.

I grew-up in Hamilton, NY, the home of Colgate University, which is about 10 miles from Loomis Lair. I went to School at Morrisville College (AAS-Mechanical Engineering Technology), Excelsior College (BS-Art and Design) and Rochester Institute of Technology (MFA- Industrial Design).

I have lived and worked in New Haven, CT, Los Angeles, CA, Rochester, Ithaca and Hamilton, NY. I have designed and fabricated Exhibits and Furniture for many years and I have more recently taught Industrial Design and Graphic Design at the college level.

I have been involved with the historic restoration of two houses and I was also a founding Board Member and the Secretary of the City Point Historic District Neighborhood Association in New Haven, CT.

I missed not being around the beautiful forests and fields of Central New York. I wanted to return to my roots in a place that I love and work toward achieving a more self-sustainable lifestyle.

I am the founder, owner and operator of Loomis Lair Yurt Rentals, since March of 2010.
