Wonderful stay at this huge and welcoming log cabin in the gorgeous mountains of Costa Rica!!! Although the Poas volcano was closed due to it being ACTIVE, we were blessed with a close-up and personal sloth encounter right at the barricades to the park!! As Tomas has said, it is a great location with everything you need right outside your door! The local restaurant was one of the best meals ever and the sweet bakery had the most delicious selection! The value is unmatched at this big slice of paradise!

We loved the location and the space for our family of 7. Thomas' suggestions for activities and food were helpful. We were disappointed not to visit Poas but could see the ash cloud from the house. Loved La Paz. Worth the cost as we spent all day there.

The cabin is huge!! With amazing views, very tranquil and it's a lovely cabin there was playing cards and our host had fresh bread, fruit, juice milk and eggs for us. Bed was comfortable and I truly loved that there was a bakery and store across the street. It's a beautiful cabin. It was clean and there's a big refrigerator too. Great stay.

Tomas is very responsive and so helpful! The views from the house are awesome. It was a great location for seeing both the la Paz waterfall and Poas.

This house is wonderful for a large group because of its many bedrooms/beds and large living areas. Although it rustic in feel, it has all of the basic amenities needed and actually has a well equipped and stocked kitchen. The house got more chilly in the evening, so bring some warmer layers of clothing. The many blankets/covers on each bed kept us warm at night. Tomas left a tablet device for us at the house to make local phone calls and access the internet (although slow at times), was very useful and appreciated. The only thing that did not work for us in the house was Wifi for other devices we had. It was supposed to be accessed through the tablet as a hotspot, but it did not work for us. Thus, sometimes we went to the bakery across the street to use its Wifi. The location of the house is quiet and it's situated in a sleepy village near Poas Volcano (about 15-20 minute drive) and La Paz Waterfall Garden (about 10 minute drive). Both are must do activities. The bakery across the street had good pastries, bread and coffee beverages. There was a small grocery store a few doors down, and we ate at a most wonderful French restaurant, Colbert, not far away, which was recommended by Tomas. Excellent choice. The owner/chef was a warm French man. We even bought a round of goat cheese that he produced locally and had it in the morning with our baguette from the bakery. We would have loved to have more meals there, but did not have time. Tomas was a very helpful host who made himself available every time we called/emailed him with a question - from late night dining to where to get a massage after a long day of hiking. He was full of useful knowledge and gladly shared it. We very much appreciated his warm hospitality and enjoyed the opportunity to enjoy a peaceful stay in a quaint and picturesque village. It's a great alternative to staying in the hustle bustle of San Jose, for it was only about a 45-50 minute drive from there. It was a wonderful way to end our travels in Costa Rica this time around. We would gladly return!

Let's be honest: When we first glimpsed through the windows inside, we thought, we'd found a deserted restaurant. Tomás' house is - let's say - big. You got everything you need to enjoy a splendid time up there exploring Poas volcano and it's surroundings. But just for an overnight as we stayed the location is almost to big...

We so enjoyed our time at the Poas Volcano Views Cabin in Vara Blanca! We were two families traveling together with five young teens. We had just 4 days to get a taste of this beautiful, friendly and remarkable country, and Tomas was an invaluable host and source of information, offering an itinerary, making reservations, organizing in-home authentic meals and suggestions! We even got detailed directions to the hidden volcano which was one of our favorite experiences! He was so welcoming and in easy communication, ready to give any needed help or tips. There is a tablet in the cabin for communication, by text or phone. The cabin is rustic, and there is no heat, so quite chilly in the evenings and early mornings. The cabin is very comfortable, with good beds, warm and plentiful bedding, a spacious interior, modern bathrooms, and a fully functioning kitchen (including coffee maker, microwave, refrigerator, oven/stove, and all cooking and serving utensils and gear). The boys all shared a bunk room and had a blast! We didn't have any problems with the showers, Tomas demonstrated their use, and they worked just fine. We would not hesitate to stay here again, just bring warm, cozy clothing (woolens, fleece, and long johns) to take away the chill, and be sure to bring rain gear. We loved the neighborhood, convenient to all the places we wanted to visit, access to the delicious bakery (every morning!), convenient little shop, French restaurant, the friendly neighborhood dogs, a big yard for soccer games, and lots of land to explore. In four days, we fully experienced the beautiful cloud forest, in our trusty, rusty rental van--mist, rain, lush and tropical foliage, Poas Volcano, Tirimbina (monkeys, toucans & sloths!), local eateries (sodas), the La Paz Waterfall Gardens, just stunning, the hidden volcano hike, the super fun ziplines at Colinas de Poas--fabulous guides and setting, the coffee plantation visit at Doka, strawberry milkshakes at Freddo's, and delicious, authentic, home-cooked meals organized by Tomas, and created by amazing Teresa! We created lots of memories and are just thrilled with our Costa Rican experience! We all fell in love with Costa Rica, pura vida!! A heartfelt, and warm thank you Tomas!!
