Interaction with Guests
We love interacting with our guests but also understand the need for privacy and rest.
Access to everything but yet rural. Small supermarket in walking distance, milk farms and strawberry farms very close by, many unique and affordable restaurants minutes away.
The bus that goes to San Jose stops in front of the property. Plenty of local restaurants with great food close by. La Paz Waterfall Gardens are less than 5 minutes away and Poas Volcano is no more 20 minutes away.
This is a no smoking house (it is a log cabin home afterall) but guests are more than welcome to smoke on the property as their ample room on the farm.
Thomas was very helpful though out of town during our stay. Great location, would be excellent for large groups.
Great location for exploring the volcano and surrounding area!! It is good for big families. Nice and cozy place. The bakery across the road has delicious pastries. Tomas was a great host. Very responsive and great to communicate with. Beautiful area and views from the house.
Tomas was the most helpful host I've ever had on AirBnb or anywhere. Our luggage had been lost on our flight, and we were having a lot of trouble communicating our location to the airport employees so they could deliver. Tomas called them several times to direct and demand they get our things back to us quickly. We would have been lost without his help.
The cabin was huge with lots of space. Nice big kitchen, two full bathrooms, and tons of beds and bedrooms. The view is stunning and the rural town is charming and friendly. Tomas brought us fresh flowers and local baked bread as a welcome, and then recommended great places to get dinner and breakfast. His English is perfect, so he can be an amazing help if need be.
We had a little trouble finding our way out, but Tomas was very responsive to our phone call and helped us get routed. (He's much more responsive to phone calls than texts) I recommend google mapping this: Pollos los Tíos, 126, Vara Blanca, Heredia Province, Costa Rica, because you will be very, very close to the cabin then.
We enjoyed stopping at the local Minisuper Vara Blanca for fresh fruit, baked goods, and gifts. You'll see farmers selling cheese on the side of the road, which we passed up and regret doing so. We learned later that it's the stretchiest-most amazing string cheese in the world.
Visit the waterfall just a short drive north, down the hill from the cabin (on your way out or in to the area). This is where you'll see lots of farmers selling cheese on the road.
We had a great stay at Tomás' place in Vara Blanca. The house is very big, a bit rustic, but was quite comfortable for this young family. We spoke to Tomás on the phone after we arrived and he was very accommodating, giving us some great recommendations on places to eat and things to see and do. The climate, while we were there, was quite cool, a refreshing change of pace from the coast.
We enjoyed our stay at Tomás' log cabin. It is spacious and the views of Poás volcano are really incredible. Key pickup from the bakery across the street was simple (make sure you stop back for breakfast in the morning--very tasty!). It was maybe 5 minutes to La Paz Waterfall Gardens and 15-20 minutes to the volcano, so the location was great if you're looking to enjoy those two fantastic attractions. It was indeed chilly and we were glad to have brought warm clothes and extra blankets, although there were plenty there for use too. I will say that the fully equipped kitchen does not have an oven, microwave, or electric coffee maker, so if you're used to those amenities plan ahead. Also, the Wifi is not reliable at all, to the point that I would say it really shouldn't be listed as an amenity. Overall, we enjoyed our visit to this special property and would return!
Hi Matthew, thank you for your stay. I am glad you enjoyed your stay. As you saw the house does come with an oven, it seems that the valve was turned off. The situation has been remedied and it is now functional. There are two seperate coffee makers (Italian espresso and a Costa Rican drip) in the house. We will leave clear instructions for future guests so that they know how to use them as they make much better coffee than the electric alternative. There is Wifi and it has worked for us over the years. I am sorry for the inconvenience of the lack of wifi during your stay. There are times due to the national service provider that the internet signal drops off however we just had a group of 10 biologists staying in the home and they were all able to log on and send in their work. Again, we greatly appreciate your stay. If you are still in CR let me know and we will give you a discount for your next stay. Warm regards, Tomas
Tomas was extremely nice! Helped us with food and site recommendations.
Tomas is a very helpful and kind host, who has helped with detailed answers to every small question we had - be it about the accommodation or what to do in the region. He was also very flexible in both arrivals / departure.
The house itself is in an amazing setting in the middle of the nature. One need to keep in mind bough that it can get cold in he nights, so bring long sleeves for evening and sleeping!
