Other things to note
Brevard is about 16 miles away which has lots of restaurants and activities. There are no restaurants in Balsam Grove so plan accordingly for your meals or bring your raw materials for making your own salads, sandwiches, pizza etc. in the kitchenette. The Kitchenette is small but fairly well stocked and the big deck table is available to eat on. There is also a card table and chairs available for you. You can also prepare your own breakfast before your hike or kayak adventure.
You are in the mountains so expect cell service and data to be spotty at times. The evenings are very cool as the elevation is 3000' so dress appropriately. If hiking, wear appropriate shoes or hiking boots. Please let hosts know your approximate time of arrival. Please refer to our House Manual in your room to review all policies of the household.

Directions to our home: The last 7 miles of the drive is mountainous but paved so you won’t have any problem getting around and driving up the mountain. Phone service will be very spotty and you will need to follow our directions, below, because GPS may not identify our physical address. We will be available to answer your questions about the area (via text) and suggest points of interest worthy of visiting for a day. SPECIFIC DIRECTIONS to our home are as follows: Get off I 26 North Carolina at exit 40 (airport exit) PROCEED WEST onto #280 towards Brevard. Continue on THROUGH Brevard. If you are watching your GPS, it wants you to take #276 North. DO NOT DO this as it will take you on a gravel fire road. #280 will end in Brevard and you will KEEP STRAIGHT through Brevard on #64. Continue on #64 for about 10 miles (past two Rosman exits on the left) and then look for Parkway Road or Hwy #215 on your right. There is a big Paddle Shop (on your left) as you turn RIGHT so you will know you are at the right spot. Continue up the mountain approximately 7.7 curvy miles (about 15 minutes) and turn RIGHT on Clinic Road. You will see a big retreat complex on your left called "Living Waters" as you are turning Right onto Clinic Road. Proceed 1/4 mile and turn LEFT on Shoal Creek Road. Proceed 1/3 mile and see Shoal Creek Baptist Church on your left with the cemetery right across the road. 100' past the cemetery (not the gravel maintenance road around the cemetery), take a hard RIGHT onto our gravel driveway called N Shadow Run. We are the second house on left (green house and roof). Cell service is very poor on the last 7 miles so it would be best for you to copy our directions to your phone to have available in case you lose service.
