About this listing
Perched atop Buck Mountain with a panoramic view of the Puget Sound, from Mount Constitution to Vancouver Island. Enjoy nature from the comfort of a well appointed modern cabin on five unspoiled acres.
High ceilings, open and airy, modern space… Newly renovated kitchen with top of the line appliances — gas stove, full-size fridge — is fully stocked with cookware and place-settings for eight, plus pantry basics (flour, sugar, condiments, spices, etc.) Enjoy a meal at our custom dining table, or dine alfresco on the deck. The cabin is well appointed with everything you need for four adults plus. King-size bed in bedroom, full-bed in sleeping niche, plus four fold out mattresses for kids with bedding for all.
Wander the acreage of meadow and forest, relax in the wood fired hot-tub and watch for deer and eagles. A private road and five acres ensures complete privacy and quiet. Or just curl up on the cozy leather couch with a novel. There are games, puzzles and books, but no TV or landline. Cell phone reception is usually good at the cabin. From the living room and large deck, you can see from Mount Constitution and the Olympic range to the south, Turtleback Mountain, the water and the lights of Victoria and Sydney to the west.
Enjoy hiking Mount Constitution (there is a trail head 1000 feet from the cabin), shopping just four miles away in Eastsound Village, and all that lovely Orcas Island has to offer. The village has many great restaurants and cafes, one of the state’s best bookstores and an outdoor Saturday market featuring local organic food and artisan crafts. There are beaches to walk, sea kayaks, mopeds and mountain bikes to rent; go on whale-watching tours, and see lots of wildlife you won’t see on the mainland.
Interaction with Guests
We will be happy to share our personal favorites with you and answer any questions you may have. My husband Christian is an architect and I am an artist. We've enjoyed designing a simple retreat in this unspoiled place, and hope you will be moved by the experience of being here for a time. We are always available for questions during your stay.
A reservation is needed for the ferry from Anacortes to Orcas Island. Please see the Washington State Ferries website to make your reservations.
There is a taxi service on the island but a car is needed to truly enjoy all there is to offer on Orcas.
Other Things to Note
With the cabin at 1200 feet, up a good, but in some places steep, mountain road; during the winter months there is a possibility of snow or ice on the road. We strongly recommend having chains just in case you need them.
We will consider shorter rentals during the week or if there is a two day gap in the calendar. Please contact us!
Please no pets or smoking.
Trina was wonderful to work with and kept in excellent contact. The house was comfortable, light, airy and well-stocked with linens and kitchen necessities. We were treated to beautiful sunsets every night.
Our young daughters loved the sleeping mats and it was perfect for our family of four.
We stayed at Trina's tranquil orcas cabin for 4 nights in August 2015. The cabin surpassed our expectations - house was immaculate, uncluttered, cozy and inviting. Truly a home away from our own. The views and forest surrounding property provided hours of relaxation and honest "lazing around". The deck was fantastic for evening picnics, sunsets and stargazing. Trina provided an exceptionaly descriptive list of hikes, activities and amenities on the island that were much more informative and personal than the guidebooks we sought. This enhanced our (sadly) short stay with accurate information to experience Orcas. The kitchen was well furnished and easy to use. Our stay was our first airbnb booking for vacation - we were so pleased with the ease of the process, due to Trina communicating all information in a very timely manner. Her attention to details and spectacular cabin made our travel and vacation a pleasure. Julia and Evan, North Carolina
The detailed directions and house instructions were very helpful. The house was very nice as pictured with a full kitchen and nice appliances. The surrounding area was very nice as described.
Our time at Trina's cabin was spectacular. The five of us, including an active 6 year-old, loved every minute of our stay there. The cabin itself is beautiful, and completely equipped - and has sensational views of the Sound and the surrounding mountains.
And communicating with Trina before, during and after our stay was terrific. She was full of great information and advice about local activities and restaurants, and responded to our few emails almost immediately.
We all would live to come back again in the future...a great place to stay!
What more is there to say after all these other wonderful reviews? We loved our short stay at Trina's cabin. The house was very comfortable and had everything we needed, including supplies to make a nice dinner in the kitchen. The views and surrounding area were beautiful and so peaceful. Being so close to Eastsound was very convenient for meals and groceries. We would love to go back some day.
What a great experience we had during out stay at the Tranquil Orcas Island Cabin. The cabin was well equipped and very inviting for the two couples who shared this retreat. The large windows allowed provided a great deal of light during the day as well as wonderful views. Trina Carlson provided prompt information about the cabin and things to do on Orcas Island. Certainly if we return to Orcas Island, the Tranquil Cabin would be a great place to stay.
This was our first visit to Orcas and Trina was very welcoming. We were provided all the necessary information on the cabin plus potential sites to visit well ahead of time. We actually arrived on the island much earlier than expected and Trina arranged for us to check in a few hours early.
The house was better than expected - very clean, efficiently designed and nicely decorated. Our son's girlfriend is a designer and decorator who was quite impressed. She posted an interior picture on Instagram and received a number of favorable comments. The setting was as described and we had great views from the house and deck. Great way to enjoy the sunset with a glass of wine at night or a leisurely cup of coffee in the morning.
Our granddaughter helped select the house and she enjoyed exploring the trails around the house. Her favorite pastime was swinging in the hammock.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely consider coming back.
About the Host, Trina
I'm an artist living in Seattle with my husband Christian, an architect and also an artist. We love living in the city and often travel in Europe and the East Coast.
For us, Orcas is our retreat away from all of it. We have three grown children, and now with more discretionary time, I enjoy working hard then relaxing with a good book and a good glass of wine.
