Description

The space

We have 4 guest rooms on the second floor all with Air/conditioning, private bathrooms, Satellite TV, and free wifi in the house. Guests also enjoy a rotating full breakfast, and unlimited access to our butterfly garden. We are also proud to announce the opening of our micro-brewery, Butterfly Brewing Co.!! A small brewery located behind the butterfly gardens. We make 6 different styles of beer and our own hibiscus soda. All of our beers can be found on tap downstairs in our Bar/Restaurant Clandestina. Open Tuesday-Saturday 12 noon-9pm.

Guest access

You have full access to the house, your own private room with a private bathroom and A/C, wireless internet, and helpful staff that will give you the inside scoop on the area. All of our beers are available to guests even when the restaurant is closed. Guests have full access to the butterfly gardens.

Interaction with guests

We have been living here in the jungle by the sea for over 11 years, so we have lots of lifestyle tips. There will be interns working at the house to help you with activities and plans.

The neighborhood

Montezuma is a quaint little town in the rustic area of the Nicoya peninsula. A favorite destination for ex-pats and ticos alike!

Getting around

We are located up a very steep hill, so unless you have your own rental car, you will want to keep that in mind. People love or hate it for the excercise, but it does provide some spectacular views. We can also help arrange for taxi's for you if needed.

Other things to note

There is a adventurous trail with direct access to the upper and lower waterfalls right behind the B&B. About a 15 minute hike.

Fantastic B&B the staff are very friendly and very easy to understand. The food and the beer were the best in Costa Rica. Thanks to Douglas and the chef Brian for making the stay much more memorable. We ended up staying an extra night because it was such a great spot. Just book it you won't regret it.

Our stay at the Mariposario was wonderful. The rooms were nice and clean and the AC worked very well. If you get the chance, I highly recommend trying some of the artisan beers. They are delicious and a wonderful break from all the watery cervesa nationale you've been drinking. The breakfast was also very good and filling. Maria was a great host and quite helpful. We followed her advice on what to do in the area and were not disappointed. The only downside to the place for us was the location, which is quite a ways from the "center" where all the bars and restaurants are. But the waterfalls and canopy tours are only 500m down the road, and the nature around is beautiful.

One night at the Mariposario Montezuma has not been enough. The room is clean and equipped with everything you need: AC, working hot water, sky TV and fast WIFI. The staff has been very welcoming and helpful in giving us advice. The restaurant Clandestina downstairs is a must-try. The atmosphere was perfect with some live music and candlelight. Food-wise the fried caulliflower and the green mango ceviche along with the fresh cocktails were our highlights. The beer was quaffable. This place is great value for money and we would recommend anyone to stay there.

We stayed in the Morpho room for 4 nights. Our stay was nothing short of excellent! The room was clean and comfortable with a nice bed, warm shower, and AC. The best part was that every morning we would walk downstairs to eat a delicious breakfast with juice, coffee, fruit and a main dish. The B&B is located at the top of a steep hill about a 20min walk into town, which can be difficult when its raining or super hot. On the other hand it is secluded and extremely close to the nearby waterfalls. The staff, particularly Ana and Ryan were really nice, helpful and easy to talk to. I would highly recommend staying here for your Costa Rican adventure.

Cannot recommend this place enough! It was incredibly cozy, clean, and had excellent staff. The beers are delicious, the breakfasts are lovely, and the restaurant area is perfect for afternoons watching the rain or waiting for the capuchin monkeys. We loved being up the hill from the town and really enjoyed the trek up and down each day (no need for a cab if you're in shape for a short hike) but it is a steep hill. The Mariposario is very close to the suntrails waterfall entrance and the butterfly garden is a must see. Will definitely stay here again next time we're in Montezuma.
