Two-storey wooden house (2 double and 1 single rooms) in tropical garden facing Playa Negra in Cahuita. Kitchen facilities and Wireless Internet available. Comfortable terraces with hammocks to relax.
The house is uniquely located in front of Playa Negra to enjoy the tranquility of the beach and the wildlife surrounding us. Simultaneously, it is only less than 10 minutes walk to downtown Cahuita and other amenities nearby.
The house has wireless internet and kitchen facilities plus a fenced big garden, safe for kids. Also the two staircases have doors to keep little ones from falling. Linen and towels provided too and there are two more showers outdoors.
Interaction with Guests
Depends on the guests and my workload but I have my private quarters at the back of the house, so I am always around.
It is peaceful and quiet while having nearby some of the best amenities in town. Only 200 meters from the house we have the best fish restaurant in town and further up in Playa Negra there is live music and other great places to enjoy.
Most people go around with bicycles, which can easily be rented (there is also a spare free one at the house). Public buses will take you anywhere nearby you want to visit. Car rental available too.
Other Things to Note
My dog Rocco is huge (he is a Great Dane!) but known in Cahuita as the gentlest of dogs. Kids love it!!! There are one more little dog and some cats as well, all very well behave. They do not enter the house.
Smoking is only permitted outdoors.
Pets are allowed but we firstly need to talk about it.
Great wooden house with expansive porch, all as described! We enjoyed our time next to the ocean in this quiet area of Cahuita. Cristina was a gracious hostess.
I took my three kids (13, 13, 18) to Cahuita for a month. We could not have picked a better place to stay--in large part to Cristina. The house was very spacious by Cahuita standards and a great location. The garden was beautiful and listening to the ocean was peaceful. I would suggest that guests bring a water bottle to refill from the cooler provided, environmentally kind soap/shampoo/toothpaste and a gracious attitude. The people of Cahuita are as lovely as the stunning scenery and to truly experience this, a warm smile and an open attitude are key. It is good form to carry a few extra colone to buy fruit and coconuts from those selling on the streets...and we found they were very kind to us in turn and were keeping an eye out for us. Please keep in mind most homes do not have hot water (but it's comfortable for showering) and that typical European-American bedding would not be practical or desirable in Cahuita's clime. Don't expect luxury.. Expect grace.
Please take the time to get to know Cristina. She does amazing work that changes the world. Truly, one of the most inspirational and lovely people I have had the privilege to encounter.
We had a wonderful time in Cahuita while staying at Cristina's. She was extremely helpful in giving us information about where to go and what to see, even calling to set up a chocolate tour which was a highlight of the trip. She was very accommodating of both our children and our guests who often joined us for dinner. She looked after and out for us and I would enthusiastically recommend this location to anyone coming into Cahuita.
We very much enjoyed our stay. The house was lovely and very comfortable, the space on the balcony was just what we wanted. Beds were comfortable, all was clean. The neighborhood is nice and quiet--so much better than staying right in town. Good walks along the road and beach are accessible, close enough to town for easy access to restaurants, National Park, etc. Cristina was very helpful and courteous and we loved (website hidden) only suggestion would be a bit more cooking equipment in the kitchen.
The house is super nice, located just in front of the beach even though there's not much to do in Cahuita. You can hear the ocean while sleeping, just be careful with the mosquitoes!
Cristina asked us if we could do a late check-in which we didn't have a problem with. She in returned offered us that we could leave the next day when ever we wanted since the house was not rented the next day. To our surprise, when we arrived in the afternoon all our belongings were outside because she had a late booking. She didn't even allow us to go to the bathroom and was quite stressed.
It seems that the communication failed within the same guest group. The girl of the group and I had already agreed that they could enjoy the house all day (although check-out is at 12.00) with the only condition of leaving the rooms ready for me to prepare in case they were needed while they were out.
And it happened that I needed the rooms. Unfortunately, they had not leave things ready for me, as we had agreed, reason why I got a bit stressed out. By the time they came back (almost night time) I had the whole house cleaned for the next guests, and previous guests could still use the two showers outside, which now seems it was not enough for them. Definitely, we give different meanings to the concept of respect.
la maison est telle que decrite, tres bien situee mais sans eau chaude.
tres peu de vaisselle et de couverts.
plutot sympa dans l'ensemble.

I moved to Cahuita a short time ago after several years working on climate change vulnerability research in risk-prone farming communities in El Salvador. Nowadays I carry on my research interests mostly from home, only leaving temporarily for fieldwork. Previously, I have travelled extensively and lived in several places around the world. I love cinema, music, good conversations and enjoying the simple things in life, such a good meal with friends or a nice walk at the beach with my dog Rocco.
