About This Listing
Situated a mere 10 mins drive from the lakefront we offer a comfy and relaxing stay with stunning mountain views. The queen sized bed and room is tastefully furnished, free wifi, breakfast and guests also have a separate lounge for their own use.
Hi, We are Dave and Penny and we have a comfortable room, with a queen bed, which we would love to rent to you on your visit here to the very beautiful Lake Wanaka. This room accommodates two people only and if you need more than two people see our other listing.
We have provided in the room tea and coffee making facilities, a fridge and a hairdryer to make your stay with us as comfortable as possible. There is also free Wifi available. Both bedrooms share the use of the guest bathroom and extra washroom which is located adjacent to the bedrooms. The living quarters consist of a family/dining, area and a separate lounge all of which you are welcome to use or join us and our beloved pets in.
Our peaceful, recently built, home sits on an acre and a half just 10 minutes from the Wanaka Lakefront. We are also 3 mins from the airport which has mainly recreational aircraft, but also has skydiving and flight seeing tours over the glaciers. From our home we can look out to the airport and watch the skydivers landing.......a remarkable sight! Also a great position to watch the 'Wanaka Warbirds' aerial show which is held every two years. Occasionally in the evenings in summer we can see aerial acrobatic displays being practised.
For the ski bunnies or snow boarders our location is also handy for the Ski fields of Treble Cone, Cardrona and the Snow Farm. In the summer time, Wanaka is a superb holiday destination, great for walking, fishing, boating or just relaxing and the number one destination for many New Zealanders. Other lakes close by suitable for fishing and boating are Hawea (15 mins away) and Dunstan (30 mins away). The nearby Clutha River is also great for fishing or for just walking to and discovering some of the old Gold Panning Tailings that are there..
Nearby townships are Alexandra which annually has the Blossom Festival in the springtime and historic Cromwell which is on the banks of Lake Dunstan. Queenstown and Arrowtown are only a mere hours drive over the Crown range and from there onto the beautiful Milford Sound.............well worth the trip. Milford Sound is stunning in any weather and esp after the rains.
Vinyards abound in the area and are always worth a visit esp to the wine buffs amongst us.Wanaka is also the gateway to the West Coast of the South Island and the beautiful scenery and glaciers that are over there.
Closer to our home tho is a cosy pub just a 5 minute walk away serving great meals at a reasonable cost. Relax in our 'Dell' or for a quiet evening in you can enjoy our home theatre system which can show movies on the Big Screen.
For animal lovers, we have 2 very friendly dogs, very much loved members of our family.
We have good local knowledge. Wanaka is an amazingly scenic place and probably the best place to stay in New Zealand's South Island. We will do all we can to make your stay as memorable as possible and help out with tours and onward travel where we can. Originally from Christchurch we have much knowledge on that area too and what to see and do there.
We hope that our description is helpful to you in making your decision to come visit with us and we look forward to meeting you. We offer great rates, priced per room
Facilities for the guest to use are as follows: A guest lounge, shared bathroom with one other bedroom, use of the grounds for relaxing in and off street parking for the use of our guests.
Interaction with Guests
We like to interact with our guests as much or as little as they would like. They are here for their relaxation and if they wish to keep us company of an evening or just be by themselves we will fit in with their wishes
There is plenty to do here with relaxing scenery, quiet locality and the ability to be able to have long or short walks around the area and enjoy the scenery at the same time. We are near a major river (the Clutha) and have a creek running through the bottom part of the garden which leads into the Clutha River. All things to enjoy while staying here with us
There is no public transport available here and so a private car or motor bike is necessary or alternatively a taxi service is available fronmWanaka.
Other Things to Note
These rooms sleep only two people so more than two people travelling together need to book the other bedroom
We do not allow the use of the kitchen.
We try to keep the house rules to a minimum. You are here to enjoy your stay. We simply ask for a little respect and courtesy which we in turn will extend to you. So far all our guests have been charming and courteous. Your stay shoud be peaceful and relaxing with as few rules as possible.
Penny and Dave were very welcoming and kind- penny went out of her way to accommodate my gluten free diet! We thoroughly enjoyed talking with them, and they were forthcoming with lots of great info on the area. AND they have lovely dogs :)
thank you Jackie and George for that review. loved having you here and chatting with you both. We still have Codie here with us and she is settling in very well. and getting on with both Ace and Molly. Come back anytime, we would love to see you both again. Keep in touch :-)
Penny and Dave were great hosts. We were amazed at their attention to detail when we arrived at our room to find complementary chocolate, fruit and baking! Convenient location with epic mountain view and very clean facilities.
Penny and Dave were perfect hosts. We felt very welcome at their house. Our room was very good with some few surprises that let us very comfortable, such as the nice cookies and chocolates - small things that make a big difference! The breakfast was simply delicious. Thank you, Penny and Dave!!!
Penny and Dave are really nice and really helpful. They look like your parent and show their kindness to us. We are truly enjoyed our date in their home.
Lastly, their dogs are very funny and love to play with you.
We had a perfect one night stay in Luggate. Penny and Dave are great hosts, we had nice chats and their two dogs Molly and Ace were lovely! The room was spacious and quiet, the bathroom with lots of space as well. Penny prepared a delicious breakfast for us, we would love to come back and stay with them again.
Penny and Dave are great hosts. Nothing was too much trouble. We were made to feel at home. Lots of extras over and above what was expected. Beautiful, comfortable home. Great breakfasts and continuous cups of tea. Being Brits, we loved that. Lots of suggestions and ideas for what to do were very useful. Great neighbourhood. Highly recommended. We fell in love with the friendly, playful dogs.
Dave and Penny has made our stay exceptionally comfortable and we both felt really welcomed and let's not forget the two stars of the home, Ace and Molly! Though the weather was not the best, we arrived to a warm and comfy bedroom just as shown in the photos. Clearly, the photos do not do the place enough justice and if you have booked this place, you are in for a treat!
Dave and Penny had plenty of lovely insights to share about Wanaka and the surrounding regions and they were such a joy to share conversations with through the night. We both felt really happy being around them and were sad when the time came to bid goodbye to these two lovely hosts. Will definitely be back again for the Wanaka Warbirds show as recommended by them both.
I'll be back!
It was absolutely our pleasure to be able to host you both at such an important part of your lives and we felt honoured that you chose our place to stay. We will definitely look forward to seeing you both here again and if you do come for the Warbirds aerial show you will be in for a treat then too. Best wishes from all of us here including the 'kids' Ace and Molly
