  • I was very pleased with my long stay in Hofdahus' room. The room was small just like it was advertised but it was enough for me because my intention in Iceland was mostly roaming through the capital area so all I need was a good bed (their sofa bed was comfy with the blanket) and a good food. They provided cereals, muesli, milk, and some loaves of bread since the first day of my arrival. They are very friendly, indeed.

  • Good place for the money you pay. The kitchen lies in the corridor but still conveniente. Good location if you hâve a car. A real key to close/open the main entrance would hâve been appreciated.

  • It is a small room, but the bed is ok for two and we enjoyed our first night in Iceland. Gunnar is very friendly and a nice host! He bought some things for breakfast, which we found in the little fridge right in the room. We found everything and it is a good offer for a budget place. We would stay there again.

  • The room was small and the bed was just big enough for two, but we enjoyed our stay. It is definitely a budget place, with a small improvised bathroom and shower. We enjoyed having toast with marmalade and orange juice right in the room. If you want a cheap place to lay your head I would recommend the room.

  • Like the advert says its a very small room. Its what you can expect for that amount of money. Everything you need is present.
The host (we met Gunnar) is very friendly and tries to make you feel at home. He even bought some breakfast! The city is a good alternative if you already been in Reykjavik and you have one night before flying home.

  • We spent two nights with Gunnar and family. We never really got to meet them ( I think they prefer it that way ). Our room was very small, there was no pull out couch. There was a twin bed for the two of us. This was fine because we were only there to sleep and you can't beat the price. There was a refrigerator with juice and bread, cheese and jam. Parking was a little tight, but both nights we were able to find a spot. We would stay here again.

  • A fantastic price for a cosy but well equipped room. Gunnar & Greta are the most welcoming hosts I could of hoped for and helped me to find my feet in a new country on my own for the first time.

Hafnarfjordur itself is a really pretty town just outside of Reykjavik with huge pieces of old lava all around. There are plenty of places to eat and buy groceries and is well connected to the capital via a bus that passes through every 20 minutes or so, reaching the city centre in about 30-40 minutes.

    July 2013
  • As described the room is small but you have eveerything you need : a fridge, a boiler, a toast maker, ...(we also had milk, orange juice, cheese, butter, bread, an apple and an orange, coffe and tea ready for breakfast)
The sofa bed is not large (I would say 120 cm large) but quite comfortable.
You can cook (light cooking)in the corridor between the room and the other guests room , there is a cooking place there but no sink so you need to use the bathroom to wash you plates.
Greta sent us all the information we needed to get there, so everything went smoothly for us.
    The price is really good.
The location is also convenient, the flybus that goes to the airport stops only 10 minutes away from the house, the bus stop to take the bus to go to Reykjavik is also 10minutes away (and it takes about 20 minutes to go to Reykjavik).
We spent there 3 nights and I would definitely recommend it for travellers on a budget who want a convenient place to stay.
