Savor calm, relaxation, and solitude in the Schoolhouse Cottage. The original structure of the home is a two-room schoolhouse built in 1848. During your stay you will be surrounded by historical artifacts while enjoying all the conveniences of modern amenities. You are less than 15 minutes from much that the Dahlonega area has to offer, yet you have the kind of privacy one finds at a remote mountain cabin.

The space
Staying in the Schoolhouse Cottage is staying in a piece of history. When you walk through the living room and master bedroom you are walking on floors that school children walked on 170 years ago. The photos hanging throughout the cottage are historic images of Dahlonega and North Georgia from an archived collection that you'll doubtfully see anywhere else. What's more, the modern amenities and attention to detail allow you to savor the history that surrounds you while still enjoying the comforts of the 21st century. To top it off, the cottage is less than two minutes from the main road yet once you are there you are surrounded by wooded land, hills, and privacy.

The Schoolhouse is located in the foothills of the Appalachian mountains minutes from the town of Dahlonega and a variety of North Georgia attractions. It is ideal for those who appreciate a unique and thoughtfully cared for home-base as they venture out to explore the rich history, natural wonders, and local activities in the surrounding area. If your idea of the perfect vacation involves lounging on the couch and spending hours watching TV, while lovely in its own right, this may not be the best fit. The focal point of this home is its uniqueness, history, little details, and the endless beauty and experiences to be found beyond its walls. Get out there and explore! There is so much incredible stuff to see and do!

Finally, please read the full description of the cottage, the amenities, and the house rules prior to booking. And if you plan to bring your pup along for your stay you must register him/her as part of your booking party.

Guest access
The master bedroom (part of the original schoolhouse) has a queen bed, bath with shower, and a screened-in porch accessible through a door that was once the entrance to the original school building. Perfect for a single person or couple.

There is also a second bedroom with a full size bed as well as a full bath that is locked but can be made available for a slightly increased nightly rate. If you would like this room open during your stay please contact me or go to airbnb.com/h/schoolhouse.

For all other guest accessible items see the listed amenities below or send me a message.

Other things to note
Please be sure to have thoroughly read the entire description of the cottage as well as the house rules and "additional rules" prior to booking (scroll past reviews to find house rules).

There is no cable television. There is a Chromecast you may connect to for streaming any services you subscribe to such as Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, etc.

Please note that both county and state lodging taxes are already included in the nightly price of your stay. It will not be added to your bill.

I am a naturalist at a nature center in Gainesville, GA. I'm married with two children and three dogs. I'm passionate about taking care of our natural world and sharing a love for it with younger generations. I love good wine and craft beer, long distance hiking/backpacking, exploring small towns, listening to music, and experiencing other cultures and learning local history. As both an Airbnb host and guest I pay attention to detail and try to take the absolute best care of the home I am sharing. For years my life motto has been a quote by Gandhi: There's more to life than increasing its speed.
