Our beautiful tower apartment has a romantic and cozy tree-house feel will give you a peaceful and tranquil stay in Chiloe.
If you plan on traveling to Chiloe, try this option and have a unique, mystical and unforgettable experience.
In building our home, the first thing we did was to construct a water tower for our tank. It ended up being very big and tall, so we decided to design a guest house inside it.
Although it rains a lot on Chiloe, that doesn't mean that there is always a fresh supply of water because we sometimes have several months without rain. However, we are very fortunate to have delicious water from a fresh spring in the forest behind the Tower. We collect the water year-round, but we are very conscious and careful about our water use.
'The Tower' has a tree house feel to it, with an amazing view of the ocean and the volcanoes on the horizon of the mainland. It is a beautiful, split-level apartment. Private and romantic for a couple, but with enough room for a small family, it has a queen-sized bed upstairs and a futon in the living room. The apartment sleeps up to three people, and it includes a kitchenette, a bathroom with a shower, and everything you need to feel comfortable.
For Free our guest have access to a private beautiful beach, walks in the forest, knowledgeable advice about what to visit and when (we have a travel company and have organized specialized traveling for 17 years)
For a reasonable fee, our guests can have access to:
Sea Kayaks, paddle boards, yoga (private or groups class), cooking classes
Freshly made meals can also be arranged: We can make a special private meal or you can join our family for a meal, breakfast and dinner can be eaten at the studio or at our sun room.
Interaction with Guests
Depending on the guests, we love to interact with our guests but also respect their privacy. If they have kids, we welcome their kids to play with with ours. The fact that we have live near by gives them the chance to choose interactions, things do happen in a natural kind of way.
We don't have many neighbors, the few we have live up the hill and they are wonderful people. We are lucky to be surrounded by nature and feel fortunate to have a large property and that gives us a lot or privacy.
There is public transport and there are also taxis to and from Ancud. They can take our guests up to the top of the hill (400 mts. walk from the property)
If our guests rent their own car, a 4x4 will come all the way to the property, but a 4x2 will have to stay 400 mts up the hill. Everyone who stayed was happy to walk and we help them out when needed.
Other Things to Note
We love and respect nature and have created a life here on this magnificent island where the air is clean, the rain is fresh and the storms are powerful. Chiloe is a generous and magical island that has welcomed us and gave us a home, we hope to help you have a taste of it and welcome you to paradise, for real ! even in the strongest storm with horizontal rain, you will feel that you are in paradise, all we want is to treat Chiloe and the beautiful Chilotes with the same respect they show towards us.
We truly value respecting each other, the land and the nature around us. We welcome people who share these important values.
One last note about provisions:
Please buy your food in town before coming to stay, as there are no markets or shops nearby. There are, fishermen who stop on the beach--and you are welcome to buy fresh seafood from their catches--but this opportunity depends on weather conditions and other factors... so it is best to bring food (and anything else you might need from town) with you when you arrive. Thank you for having read it all and see you in Chiloe!
The reservation was canceled 10 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
We had a great time staying in the Tower. Sandra and Britt are lovely hosts, and the property is exceptional. They have done an amazing job with the various apartments. The beach is beautiful, private, quiet, and it's a great place to relax and enjoy nature, just as described. We enjoyed driving up the coast to see the beautiful coves and penguins. Our prettiest drives on Chiloe were in this area, and we liked the sleepy quality of Ancud.
I stayed here for two nights and three days and let me tell you the place is much much better than the pictures, it's magical! Sandra and her husband Britt are extraordinary hosts. I didn't meet Sandra because she was traveling but she helped me a lot before I got there and got me in touch with her husband who helped me explore Chiloe, Puerto Varas and Santiago. The entire family made us feel home!
Staying here was a mental detox for me! I am definitely going back!
This is a truly magical place. I came seeking a few days of quiet in the midst of a long trip, and realized I had forgotten how rich quiet can be! I arrived in the middle of a rain shower and left my car in a parking space at the top of the hill as recommended since I was driving a 2x2. (Sandra offered me a lift down, but I preferred the short walk). When I arrived to the tower I was greeted by a fire in the wood stove; everything felt so lovely and cozy. After having a cup of tea while checking out the views from my bed, I set out to explore the beach. What followed were two days of such wonderful rest. Though I had planned to do day trips, I found myself happy to cook and read and explore the surroundings just outside my door.
Sandra and her husband have built a beautiful life here, and I felt they shared it with grace. I found Sandra to be attentive to my questions and inquiries, but very respectful of my privacy. In the throws of burning some fish I had purchased at the local market, she even lent me a heavier bottomed pan along with some of her culinary expertise! Couldn't be happier.
Clear recommendation: Do not go there!
This was the worst experience during our four months in Chile. Even though we spoke with Sandra prior to leaving, that does not change anything that happened. Learn about our experience and decide for yourselves:
1)Airbnb reservations not respected: We reserved upstairs on September 21st but Sandra informed us in December that there had been a “double booking”. She offered us to cancel (her mistake, but we would have lost the commission!) or to change us to downstairs for the same price and offered a free dinner as compensation which we accepted. One week prior to our arrival we saw in airbnb that the department was not occupied and asked for arrival three days earlier. We got confirmation via email and phone by Sandra only to be informed 2 days later that there had been ANOTHER double booking. We had to change again. We later become friends with the people upstairs and found out that Sandra had negotiated with them during October and November for the upstairs department we had reserved on September 21st!!! Explanation offered: “I do not work with the airbnb calendar. Even though people reserve through that channel, I do not know the dates. As people can reserve through our agency as well, I work with my own calendar. And that did not synchronize with the airbnb calendar. Thus I did not know that you had already reserved 2 months before.” Assessment: Untrue. Airbnb is a global offering. If you do not respect the reservations because you work with another calendar, you are unprofessional. More likely they prefer bookings via their own agency over airbnb bookings, selling to the highest bidder. Sandra appeared to be completely disorganized and did not even know when we were supposed to leave.
2)Promises not kept: Sandra never invited us to dinner as promised. She never addressed the subject until the last day when she said that she thought we would stay longer and she wanted invite us that same night. Explanation offered: “I thought you would leave tomorrow and wanted to invite you to the dinner tonight.” Assessment: Ridiculous, our dates had been fixed with 4 months anticipation. Sandra did not even ask us once when it would be convenient for us. Totally inacceptable to offer a compensation and not live up to your promises.
3)Nobody there to receive us: We had to install ourselves alone and when Sandra and Britt arrived, nobody bothered to see us and ask whether everything was ok or if something was missing. Totally inacceptable, the minimum a host has to do is to receive his paying customers. No excuses for that!
4)Recommendation: For 76 EUR per night there are plenty of better places in town. Bigger, newer, better accessible, better equipped, with carpets that do not smell like dogs and with an organized host that cares about his guests and is not so obviously in for the money, respecting your airbnb reservations all the time.
I didn't get a chance to get to know Andreas and his family which was such a shame as I usually have time to help and get to know guests better. They came to drop off their language early in the morning when the apartment was not ready for them yet and we received them and talk to them a little bit before the set off for an excursion. They came across as very private and active guests which was mainly why we did not approach them much. They have many complains and we do not share their perception of the same situations. From the price they paid (which at the date of their reservation was lower than the one he mentions) to the smell of the carpet which was newly installed in December, our dogs are kept outside. To the unmentioned fact that I helped them get another accommodation for the extra three days they needed out of good will and without getting any commissions, which -to me- shows that their well being was my main interest not money as he mentions. Yes, I do accept some responsibility in ref. to some points he mentions but not they way he displays it all ... not my way of expressing. I talked to him and his wife during the last day of their stay and I felt that we clarified points of misunderstanding, however it doesn't seem to be the same for them which is a shame, his report about us and our place carries so much unnecessary anger. Their little girl is beautiful and warm and she seemed to enjoy collecting eggs from our chicken, playing with our daughter and exploring the beach. It is a shame that they seem so focused in their perception of what went wrong that forgot to celebrate and see the many beautiful things that did happened to them here.
We had a great time here outside of Ancud! Though getting here at first was tricky (unpaved road the taxi wouldn't go down, lack of cell phone made coordinating tricky), once we finally made it we didn't want to leave! Absolutely beautiful location close to the beach (good for swimming!) and gave us just the rest we needed. The family is lovely and welcoming, and the dogs will become your best friends within 5 minutes and follow you everywhere. This was a great place to spend the last couple days of our trip!
We went with my partner to this beautiful house close to the sea in Ancud. The location is amazing and our hosts, Sandra and Britt, were wonderful. They gave us recommendations and tips of things to do, such as to learn how to cook a curanto or to visit the pingüineras. I absolutely recommend this place.

Seventeen years ago my husband Britt and I came to Chiloe. He is from upstate New York and I am from a small town in the beautiful highlands of Peru.
We began our life together by building a boat. Then came the house, three beautiful girls, dogs, chickens and now a cat.
We have three gorgeous guest houses we have built by hand. My passion for yoga led us to build a beautiful yoga shala by the sea. We are happy to share it all with open-minded, honest people.
