Hear the sound of the ocean as you sleep well in a comfortable bed. There is a King size bed in the main bedroom and two single beds in the 2nd bedroom. There is also a foldout couch in the living area.
Cook for yourself or dine out at one of our many excellent local restaurants. Alternatively, if the mood takes you, go and catch the latest movie at Hokitika's Regent Theatre.

Make sure that you take the time to walk out the gate, across the road and along a few houses to gain access to the beach. It's a wild West Coast beach that is great to walk along.
Also take a walk back to the main highway to see the glowworms after dark.
The only public transport in Hokitika is the Taxi service.
Other Things to Note
Because I don't live onsite I'm happy for you to call me if there is something you need to know about local attractions or can't work out about the cottage.
I prepare the cottage for you and come and clean when you've gone but please leave the cottage clean and tidy when you go.
Ann was very friendly and answered all our questions. The cottage was lovely, quiet and spacious. The kitchen has lots of amenities for cooking as well. We had a Very nice stay.
We arrived at Ann's Cottage to find the wood fire was lit, lovely and welcoming as it was very cold. The location was great, there were fresh milk and breakfast items in the fridge. We walked along the beach which was minutes away and then had delicious pizza at a local wine bar, lovely. The cottage was a great place to stay, but more suited to the warmer months as the weather was so cold. We rugged up and enjoyed our stay.
It was a great place to stay and had everything we needed. Throughly enjoyed our first fireplace experience. The host was very welcoming and helpful and replied to message promptly. Would stay again :)
The little cottage is well located, and has everything we need. But since we were there for the winter, although Ann has kindly prepared the wood for the fireplace, the cottage is still quite cold at the night as the fire won't last long and will be given off at the night. Of the three beds in the cottage, there were no electric blanket for the two single beds, which makes it worse for the coldness at the night. But hokitita is a nice place to stay for a night.
I'm really sorry that you were cold at my cottage.
We have experienced unusua, extreme cold weather this year.
The fire does keep in all night if stoked up and turned down. alarge basket of wood and a bucket of coal are provided. For guests that stay longer than one night extra wood and coal is there too.
The cottage profile does say that you need to be able to work the fire to keep warm. There are wheat bags for the single beds.
We were sent complete instructions by email as I believe Ann was out of town. She left us a number to call if we had any problems. Luckily, she had a very friendly neighbor invited me in and let me use her phone and I got her nephew on the phone and learned of my mistake. But other than that, which was my own stupidity, everything was perfect. We learned that self-catering meant a really generous selection of foods for breakfast. The fire was already to be lit and we settled into a very comfortable night. We loved her cottage and wished we could have stayed longer! We were super happy there!
Nice sweet cottage with all the ammenties. Although we didn't get to see Ann, however when we tried to call her for help on the fireplace, she answer our doubts promptly. She even help us set up the fireplace before we arrived. Nice host definitely..
About the Host, Ann
I'm a traveller by nature so I enjoy hosting other travellers.
I like to read, knit and garden but never seem to have the time. I've just rekindled an interest in my family heritage.
I've lived and worked in this area for over 30 years. The wonderful scenery, fresh air and peaceful atmosphere are the things that draw me back. ....And of course there's a little cottage by the sea that I love so much!
I've travelled a lot in Australia as well as a few smaller trips to Britain and Europe.
I've stayed in every type of accommodation from Backpackers, free accommodation exchanges with other people to upmarket hotels and home stays. Airbnb is the way to go in my opinion.
I hope you enjoy my cottage.
