Interaction with Guests
We leave socializing up to our guests, but my husband and I are generally social people. Some of our guests keep to themselves, and some hang out with us like they are one of our friends or relatives. My husband and/or I have shown some guests around town, and we always extend an invitation to join us in any activities we might be taking part in during the time they are staying with us. At the same time though, we totally respect when people prefer to do their own thing.
We have 2 dogs. Gomer is a 4 year-old Jack Russell Terrier and Greta is a 4 year-old Border Collie mix. Guests in our home MUST be dog friendly. Our dogs get very excited when guests arrive, but be assured that they calm down pretty quickly after the initial greeting. They just love people and will accept attention from anyone willing to give it.
Walkability: 8 minute walk to the light rail, 15 minute walk to nearby bars, restaurants. Giant Eagle grocery store, K-Mart, fast food and various convenience stores all within walking distance from our house. Target, Home Depot, Aldi, Pat Catan's Craft Store, and a much larger Giant Eagle are available two stops away on the light rail, followed by a relatively short walk.
Not the trendiest of neighborhoods, but still nice, quiet and generally safe. All the neighbors on our end of the street are friendly and talk to each other, but show respect for each other's privacy.
Cleveland is the only city in Ohio that can boast a light rail option (a.k.a. the "Rapid") as part of its public transportation system. An all-day pass is $5.00 per person.
The Red Line is the only Rapid that runs on the west side of Cleveland, but is available for travel between Cleveland Hopkins Airport and downtown Cleveland, with various stops in between. Our house is conveniently located two blocks from the Red Line via the Westpark Transit Center, which is the third stop from the airport. Travel to the eastside of Cleveland is also possible by continuing on the Red Line through downtown, or by transferring to Green or Blue Line; also downtown.
The Healthline is a frequently available bus that runs back and forth on Euclid Avenue between Public Square downtown and University Circle. It provides convenient access to Playhouse Square, Cleveland State University, Cleveland Clinic Main Campus, Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland Museum of Contemporary Art, Cleveland Children's Museum, Cleveland Museum of Art (free), Cleveland Botanical Garden, Cleveland Museum of Natural History, and the Western Reserve Historical Society (a museum devoted to Cleveland history.
Ride sharing platforms, Uber and Lyft, both offer service in Cleveland as well.
Cleveland is also becoming increasingly more bicycle friendly, as bike lanes have been added to some main roads with more likely to be added.
Other Things to Note
As previously mentioned, we have two dogs, so guests must be dog friendly.
We are pretty laid back, so pretty much we just ask that you respect our home as well as us and our dogs. Rob is a college student, and often needs quiet time for studying, so we can only be kid/pet friendly on a case-by-case basis, depending on his study schedule.
Cigarette smoking is only allowed outside, and we are totally cool with guests bringing alcohol for responsible consumption. ; )
If there are any specific questions in regards to rules, please just ask.
