This is a bright and colorful double bedroom/bathroom suite, ideal for visitors to New York or Southern New England. Its 3rd floor location allows you privacy if you like but you are also welcome in the common areas of our home.
This is a bright and sunny bedroom suite with separate bathroom on the 3rd floor of my large family home in Old Greenwich, Connecticut.
The room has double bed with television set/cable/dvd player and a sitting area. The bathroom has a tub and shower and a washer/dryer.
If the adjoining room is rented, you may find yourself sharing the bathroom. I strive to confine this circumstance to guests of the same gender but it is not always possible. Use of the washer/dryer is confined to guests staying 3 or more days.
On the second floor there is a small table where guests can look out over the front garden, eat, read or have their morning coffee and tea which are provided. A small fridge is located here for your use. Meals are not included.
There is street parking but a car is not essential.
You are welcome to eat at our kitchen table or on our back deck in good weather.
Interaction with Guests
I work from home so during the day I am available to answer quick questions but cannot take time from my work day for socializing, unfortunately. Of course I always like to get to know our visitors on arrival.
This is a suburban area with village charm. Downtown Old Greenwich is one block away with shops, cafes, restaurants, pubs, a post office and a supermarket. There are several beautiful parks and areas to hike. A bike is available for riding to the beach 1 mile from the house. Depending on the season and the time of day, entering the beach may require a $5 guest pass obtainable from the community center nearby. Everyone is friendly. Everything is nearby. We love our community and you will too.
This is a wonderful place to stay while visiting the New York metropolitan area or southern New England. The train station is a 7 minute walk from our home. It provides service to New York city and all the suburban stops through Westchester County. Taking the train north will get you to Stamford, Bridgeport and New Haven and all the stops in between. Amtrak service is from Stamford, one stop away by Metro North. In addition everything you need for your stay can be obtained at one of the shops in our village which are 2 blocks away.
The owners are highly sensitive to the smell of smoke therefore we regret that we cannot offer our home to smokers. We do not allow pets. Please do not ask. There are an abundance of tables in our home, please do not eat on upholstered furniture or on the bed. Guests should recognize they are staying in a family home.
The house is in a lovely neighborhood very close to town.
The private room was clean and bright, as was the adjoining bathroom.
Christine and Jim were helpful, warm and inviting while totally respectful of my privacy. I felt very comfortable in their home.
I would absolutely stay there again.
Christine was a great host. Easy check in, check out and convenient parking for my car. I would definitely stay here again as it is very convenient to greenwich and the train.
My stay with Christine and Jim could not have been any better. The entire home was spotless and it had such a warm feeling as soon as I entered. My room was so nice and clean. The bathroom was right next to my room. I was on the 3rd floor and had my own privacy when I wanted.
I only had to walk about 5 - 10 minutes to get to the Old Greenwich MTA station.
The area was beautiful. Easy access to the surrounding areas.
Christine and Jim made me feel right at home. Very nice couple.
I got into an accident while I was in the area and they were very helpful and supportive.
Thanks for a very nice stay.
Jim is a great host, he is gentle neat and accommodating, unfortunately Christine was out of town. The green room is very charming and looks just like the picture. The room was clean, as was the bathroom and the rest of the house is beautiful.
I enjoyed my stay there and am looking forward to come back again in the future. I'd recommend this place to anyone! Thank you again.
We stayed at Christine's house before driving to JFK in the next morning. Therefore, it was perfect as it only takes one hour to go to the airport by car (on sunday). Our bedroom was quite nice and big enough for two people. In the morning, we went to the bagel company for breakfast. Very recommendable!
Very nice welcome, good big room, quiet street, easy walk from train station, just what I was looking forward to. Host nice enough to give me a lift to the conference I was attending the next morning. Will be glad to stay again.
'Cheery Retreat' is the perfect name for this delightful home in Old Greenwich. Christine was an outstanding hostess. I booked at the last minute and she responded right away. I arrived on her wedding anniversary and she was kind enough to make the accommodation even texting during her dinner. The room was pristine, quiet and comfortable. Old Greenwich is beautiful and I could walk to the train station (and beach!). It was a lovely experience and I hope to return again!

I am a writer, blogger and a published author of aviation-related books, a married woman in her mid fifties. I have four grown children. I live in Connecticut and travel about 6 months out of the year for work, usually on my own.
My first time using airbandb was in Abu Dhabi in 2011. It was a great experience. Since then I've used airbnb about 40 times as a guest all over the world. I enjoyed it so much that in 2012 I became an airbnb host at my home in a New York city suburb and also at 2 Berkshire Mountain vacation properties in Litchfield County, Connecticut.
When people "get it" that this is a home stay, not a hotel, the experience can be fantastic.
I have met some amazing people and stayed in some amazing homes. I am airbnb's biggest fan.
