  • We had a a phenomenal time at the Sleeping Indian. The location was great, the rooms were clean and comfortable, and the Peter was a wonderful host. My buddy and I didn't know what we were going to be doing in La Fortuna while we were there, and Peter helped us out with some recommendations. There is a great a common space and pretty nice common kitchen area. I recommend staying here.

  • Ideally located in the centre of la fortuna, fairly basic rooms and bathrooms but fine for a couple of nights. We spent most of our time on the little shared balcony with a beer watching the world go by. Host very friendly and have lots of good advice on eating out etc. Heidy kindly arranged our rafting and canyoning tours through Lands in love which were fantastic and with discount!

  • Peter, Heidy and Rocky were great!! I must say the highlight was Peter taking us to the local swimming hole, it was so nice of him because we loved it. This is the epitome of what airbnb is; getting local insight that you wouldn't get in another type of housing setting. They were so helpful with arranging trips and advice about local adventures. The location is excellent. The houses atmosphere is really laid back and relaxing. Peter has a lovely eclectic mix of music which is playing during the day. I loved the front balcony and the open airy common spaces so you could catch the breezes. I loved Rocky, she filled a void in my heart for my dog who was at home. The only thing is a commentary really about La Fortuna, not the house itself. La Fortuna is just quite hot in general (at least the few days we were there, I can't speak for the rest of the year). There is a fan in the room which helps a lot, but the windows which open are all near the ceiling so be prepared to be a bit warm. I am also VERY sensitive to mosquitos and because of the open plan of the whole house it also made mosquito bites an inevitability for me while sleeping. I think I remedied this by night two with fan on high and wearing bug cream to bed!

  • Peter fue muy amable y nos ayadaba conocer el pueblo de La Fortuna y la area de Arenal. LLegabamos muy tarde pero no fue una problema. Recomendado para todos!

Peter was a great host and really helped us get to know the town of La Fortuna and the Arenal volcano area. We arrived very late our first night and Peter accommodated us graciously. Highly recommend!

  • The Sleeping Indian is a really unique and great place for stay in La Fortuna. The location, arrangements, cleanness, and flexibility from Peter were all wonderful. We enjoyed especially the ambiance of the common area and the balconies where we relaxed at the end of every tiresome day of excursions. Peter is a super friendly guy and is very knowledgeable in the area's offerings and can help you build an itinerary around many exciting offerings of the Arenal region. Rocky the Racoon (don't worry it's a cute friendly dog) was a treat. Highly recommended, we would love to stay there again.

  • We had a great time with Peter and Rocky. The house was comfortable and inviting and a great place to start our Cost Rican adventure. Peter was a great host in recommending restaurants as well as activities to do, even mentioning a great swimming hole nearby that's frequented by locals. We would easily stay at Sleeping Indian again.

  • Basic place nothing fancy but clean and maintained. Peter and Heidi were helpful and had great suggestions. Great location.!

  • Very cute place, cozy feeling, but unfortunately sooo noisy as it's right by the main road... So if you are after a quiet spot and want to sleep, this isn't your place. Another downside was the lack of mosquito protection (no nets or screens). Very friendly staff!

The Sleeping Indian Guesthouse
About
Peter Ferguson the owner of the The Sleeping Indian Guesthouse and welcomes international travelers from all over the world.. Peter is a world traveler who has explored many varied countries and environments and has chosen La Fortuna as his favorite place on the planet and is enthusiastic about sharing his knowledge of this special area of a special country. The Sleeping Indian Guesthouse is centrally located in downtown La Fortuna named after a little chain of mountains next to Volcano Arenal in La Fortuna, Costa Rica. The wind and rain of millions of years of evolution has formed a chain of mountains that looks just like a sleeping indian. The more you look- the more you are amazed, since it seems that these giant mountains actually are a big fat Indian lying down. We think that no matter what kind of traveler you are, everybody likes to feel at home. Making you feel at home is Peter's goal. He loves people and he loves hosting.
