Sölvahus is a lovely, spacious 2 floor vacation rental in Flateyri, a small fishing village in the West Fjords.
It has three bedrooms, two with double beds, one family room with a double bed and two single beds. Eight persons can sleep in beds and matresses are available if the group is bigger, duvets provided. Full kitchen with a dishwasher, and full bathroom with a washing machine, extra half bathroom downstairs. Big living room and a den with tv, dvd and PS2. Porch with BBQ and a garden.
The house is called Sölvahús (Solvi´s house). It is of a great value to me since it used to be the home of my grandparents and the house where my mother grew up. It is located in the West Fjords of Iceland in a small fishing village, Flateyri. In Flateyri you‘ll find a swimming pool, local pub, (very) small convenience store, museums, you can go kayaking, sea angling and there is gorgeous nature with endless posibilities.
Flateyri is 20 minutes drive from Isafjordur, the biggest town in the West Fjords and home to the domestic airport if you fly in. A car is your best bet, but there is public transport also.
Solvahus is on Vimeo, where you can see a video of the house.
We had a nice stay in Solvi's house, the place had everything we needed and everything went smooth :)
Solvi's Hourse is incredibly charming and is immediately comfortable the moment you walk through the door. We chose to stay a bit off the beaten track and were well rewarded for the effort. Outside our bedroom window were docks and boats, framed by green-sloped mountains. Inside the house had everything we needed, including turntable records (Abba, The Eagles, etc.) which made cooking dinner a blast! Annska, our host, left us a detailed message and homemade jam. After a day of hiking, seeing waterfalls and eating pastries in isafjordur, it was lovely to come 'home' to such a sweet place. isafjordur is a few minutes drive away, and Flatyri's history and quaintness makes this an ideal location for those seeking a departure from the usual tourist destinations.
