The Home is the Original Farmhouse built in the 1800’s. The house has been updated with all the modern amenities. Our hope is to make it a peaceful retreat from the chaotic world around us. We believe that small personal things matter. At GW you will be provided a space to share with friends and family to warm your heart to nourish your soul, and a space to reflect and rewind.

The space
Our guest rooms are appointed with quality furnishings and comfortable fresh linens that allow for a restful refreshing experience. We are an hour’s drive from Chicago, even less to South Bend / Notre Dame. We are a great central location to enjoy what Harbor Country has to offer. We are family and of course dog friendly but be aware we have a chicken coop with 23 chickens and a rooster. We have moved from the bed & breakfast platform and offer a varied menu that includes breakfast, lunch, and dinner options. We have found that not everyone enjoys the time in the kitchen, so if a break from cooking, and not to mention the cleanup, let me prepare one or more of your meals during your stay. The menus are suggestions, I am happy to work with you to accommodate any dietary / food allergies or a themed celebration. The kitchen is fully equipped with many of the most and not so needed gadget along with a variety of spices and condiments. If you are a BBQ’er enjoy the convenience of 2 grills a Weber Gas or the Kamado Ceramic, with plenty of hardwood charcoal. There are several outdoor oases, starting with the wrapped around front porch with rockers and a swing, to the large fire-pit area, a shady corner of the yard with 2 hammocks and a cocoon (great to curl up for a nap or great book). Or enjoy the Tryon Farm Institute Nature Preserve and get wrapped in nature as you hike the 5k trails that wind through 170 acres.

We back onto 170 private acres of reserve / protected meadows, prairies, woods and wetlands w/ a mapped 5k hiking trail. We are less than two miles from the best beaches in the midwest and walking distance to the Burn 'Em Brewery or Shady Creek WInery. Or can try your luck at the Blue Chip Casino and venture further to a distillery in Three Oaks Michigan!

We are always happy to interact as little or as much as you like. We are very respectful during your visit that this is your space for you and your guest to enjoy! We do need to collect eggs so you will see us every now and then!
