The Space

Come enjoy Summer in NYC with us!

Amazing huge room with en-suite bathroom and walk-in closet.

The room is located in Manhattan, at St Nicholas and 159th St., in a beautiful 4 bedroom apartment. It is a very bright apartment, spacious and super cozy at the same time. I have two roommates who are very friendly, respectful and relaxed. The house is big and your room is in the rear so it is very quite and private.

There is a super market two blocks from our building as well as wine stores, liqueur stores, delis and a National Historical site called the Morris Jumel Mansion. Amsterdam and Broadway are full of restaurants and basically anything else you might need.

There are two parks nearby, Riverside park and the Greenway which allows you to bike all the way to the Southern and Northern end of Manhattan, and the Edgecombe park behind the Morris Jumel Mansion.

Subway (C train) conveniently located one block away, takes you directly downtown or midtown. Also, the 1 train is three blocks away.
PERK: 2 street bikes in perfect condition with locks included in the price for you to explore NYC in the most convenient way!

Guest Access

You will have access to all the common areas of the apt in including a fully supplied kitchen for anyone who likes to cook as well as a huge living room and dining room area.

Interaction with Guests

I am always available to give information and help on things in NY, as well as have a dinner or glass of wine together. If we are doing anything particularly interesting we would invite the along as well!

The Neighborhood

It is the highest point in Manhattan and a historical district. Behind our building is the Morris Jummel Mansion and a row of houses from 1850's. There are numerous parks within walking distance and the best Dominican food you can ever want a block away as well as coffee shops and a volunteer run book store.

Getting around

The C train is 1.5 blocks away and you can see it from the fire escape. We are also close to the 1 train which is about a 5 min walk, and the express A train which is a 7 min walk.

Other Things to Note

This is my home and I try to make it as comfortable and welcoming as possible, if you want to read one of my books, cook, or take a nap on the couch feel free to live in it!

  • Great room. Great people. Neighbourhood is not that close to down-town, but subway does not make this an issue.

  • Our stay was just perfect, we really couldn't imagine any better host and home in NYC!
Lydia is such a friendly person who helped us so much with everything. Her roommates are also very friendly and helpful.
The neighborhood was really calm, so we could sleep well and it took us about 15-20 minutes to downtown, I think.
We really enjoyed our stay there and are looking forward to another stay in this lovely apt! :)

  • Great place! We spent two weeks at Lydia's place, the room was large and clean and the rest of the apartment was nice to hang out. Lydia helped us getting around the city with and supplied us with a lot of information on what to do and where to go, really a great host. The other people in the apartment where really outgoing and great to hang around with! If you are looking for a large and comfortable room for a reasonable price and want to meet and hang out with locals this is the place to go!

  • Our stay at Lydia's place was great and added to our great New York experience! The room is large and perfectly clean as is the bathroom and the rest of the apartment. Lydia is very welcoming, supportive and easy going. We also borrowed her bikes, which was good fun. I can absolutely recommand staying at her place.

  • Lydia saved our holidays in NYC !
After a little issue about our initial rental in NYC, we sent a request to Lydia for renting the room 2days before our arrival and she answered to us really quickly! After that we were ready for spending an amazing week in the Big Apple!

  • Lydia's place is super comfortable with all the privacy you need. The room was spacious with a huge private bathroom and a large closet which was immensely helpful given that I was traveling with two huge suitcases! Lydia herself is very warm and welcoming. She was very flexible with the check in/out timings and provided me with everything I needed. The apartment is in an elevator building with laundry in the basement - always a plus! The subway station is a block and a half away from the apartment and takes you to midtown in 25 mins. I would definitely recommend staying with Lydia.

  • Lydia is an awesome host, very engaging and considerate of her guests needs. She herself is interesting and outgoing, and very involved in efforts to organize fun social gatherings and meetups.

The apartment is huge, clean, and very convenient to the subway, grocery and (for me) the hospital where I was working. The neighborhood is vibrant and on my walks home was always full of people hanging out, riding bikes, playing dominoes, and kids playing ball.

In other words, everything was great! Highly recommended!

  • Highly recommend staying here!
Bedroom and bathroom were both spacious and clean. And the bed was very comfortable.
The apartment is really close to a subway station.
Lydia went above and beyond what we were expecting from an airbnb host.

I love traveling and really enjoy having travelers in my home. It makes me really happy to be able to help you discover new york, or hear your perspective on the city. Helen Keller said, " Life is either a daring adventure, or noting at all." I always think of this when faced with a decision and try to pick the adventure instead of the fear of adventure.. I love my life, living in NYC, dancing, meeting friends, wandering around, cooking, or riding my bike! I think that learning a new language is the only way to really understand another group of people and I wish I had time to learn 10 more. I grew up in Ohio and Wisconsin, have lived in Boston, New York, Bologna, Siracusa, Padova, and Vermont. I love flea markets with endless rows of old and crazy finds and exploring new york for new and old things. Currently I work in the costume shop of the New York City Ballet developing my skills as a "tutu specialist." =)
