15 mins from Kilkenny City,The Barns is an 1850s traditional farmhouse with a beautiful herbaceous garden. It has two main bedrooms, a study which sleeps two. So in total it sleeps five, 2 doub 1 single. It is located along side the river Nore.
The location is perfect right beside the beautiful river Nore, with a wonderful selection of wildlife such as Cormorants Cranes Swans Ducks Pheasants ... plus fishing on the river, we own land by the river.
Guests has access to the front garden and back garden.
Interaction with Guests
I visit daily to offer any help they need. I have a studio in the upper yard where I live during the summer.
Amazing! Sometimes I think its like living in a national park. There are many historical areas to visit, Rathbeagh is named after the famous Rath just 50 meters from the Farmhouse, there is also a lovely birdwatching area locally. There are pubs and supermarkets within 2 miles
There is no public transport so you will need a car.
Other Things to Note
The river nore right on your doorstep for all of you who like to fish! An Ancient Rath two fields away. A beautiful River Field with bird watching facilities belonging to our wonderful neighbours who allow us all to use it.
I expect my guests to treat my home with respect. My own personal belongings are in the house and it has beautiful antiques and paintings for everyone to enjoy. No extra guests allowed only named guests without prior arrangement.
We were fortunate to find this enchanting old farmhouse, complete with medieval stories and cemetary in close proximity. Beautiful, peaceful country roads surround the home, adding to it's cozy appeal. Nicely sized rooms, including the tub/shower hall bath, were each lovely and restful. I would highly reccomend this lovely home to anyone who is looking for an authentic Irish farmhouse experience with alll the added updates and amanities of the present.
My family of 4 recently stayed at the Traditional Farmhouse in Ballyragget and it was overwhelmingly wonderful. The owner was very welcoming and helpful with information about the area. An easy drive to Kilkenny City, it is a good location to explore that and other local interests. This 1800's farmhouse is being renovated by the owner and her family who have long lived in this historic area. On driving up we found a sturdy farmhouse with walled yard and gate. Entering the front courtyard we were greeted with a profusion of flowers ringing the stone patio. Then through the front door to dining room and parlor, lovingly decorated in antiques with varied beautiful artwork on the walls and lovely drapes dressing the windows. On to the light filled kitchen, appointed with modern appliances, the double French doors leading to the back patio and garden. Upstairs is a comfortable master bedroom and a single with a nice bathroom. A downstairs study serves as second bedroom and there is a half bath downstairs. There is room for a family to stretch out and relax. It is a lovely home. All this and there seems there is something more. A good energy, certainly because of the nature of our hostess..and also maybe because the site once held a castle with remnants of ruined church still there, or the ruins of the ringfort down the road, or the River Nore itself. Don't know, but it is truly a healing spot on this earth. Thank you for sharing your place with us.
