Follow the path to Hidden Villa (@VillaEscondidaCostaRica) Our focus was to create a place of elegance that would feel palatial and yet be cradled in the mountains and jungle, where one could experience 'living in art and natural beauty at the same time'. Your outdoor living space is immersed in nature and is a tranquil spot to enjoy morning coffee while listening to the sounds of Howler Monkeys and Toucans, and to relax in the evenings to the surf's far off gentle rhythms.

Beautiful, truly hidden villa. The house and pool cannot be seen from anywhere on the road or property. It is very important that you drive a 4X4 vehicle, even in the dry season. Paula is very attentive and accessible via email; if you find that you need something, she will gladly supply it. Be prepared that there is no washer or dryer. There are several patios and terraces on which to sit depending on time of day & heat. Although the sitting areas and kitchen are not enclosed, we did not encounter any bugs, mosquitoes, or "critters" except for 3 geckos who somehow stay outside! Paula requests that you not flush TP (common in most Central American countries) so you should be aware of that; however she seemed willing to make concessions on that. The house is about 15 minutes from Uvita, in the mountains, so the ocean is not visible. However, Paula & her husband maintain a road on their acreage that you can walk, to the top of the mountain where there is a view of the Whale's Tail and a table where we sat with a bottle of wine, watching the sun go down. We visited Hacienda Baru near Dominical for a rainforest tour, drove south to Sierpe for a river boat tour, and drove to San Isidro to see the countryside. We also visited Playa Ballena, Playa Uvita, and Playa Dominical to enjoy the shallow warm water and sandy beaches. If you are looking for a private place to stay where you don't have a daily itinerary & agenda, but just want a relaxing stress-free vacation, we recommend Hidden Villa.

I can't say enough about our stay at the hidden villa; it was delightful in so many ways. The pictures are very accurate - which was appreciated. It is such a tranquil and private jungle location with the wonderful vegetation and sounds of the birds, monkeys, etc. Paula was wonderful helping us plan for our arrival. She helped us find a place to stay in SJ and answered every question I had. She and Marty are lovely people - friendly, helpful and they truly went above and beyond to ensure we had a great experience. The pool is a treat! We swam every day and enjoyed the open living area which was great for yoga, reading and enjoying the scenery. It's truly a gorgeous design Paula has such an eye for detail. Thank you both! We hope to return again soon!

Paula and Marty were the sweetest hosts. They were so helpful, accommodating and knowledgeable about Costa Rica. The villa is magical. It is perfect for a honeymoon or a private couples getaway. We loved the aesthetics, the intricate details, the bathroom stone shower, the dome light in the bedroom, all of the little statues throughout the property, the outdoor lighting and the furnishings. It has a picturesque view and is perfect for star gazing on a clear night. You have to come see it to truly experience this magical place. We loved the outdoor kitchen and living space. The kitchen has all of the appliances you need. We were able to cook here everyday just like we do back home. The saltwater pool was amazing! My wife and I used it several times a day. Having access to living spring water was such a treat. If you are looking to do some work and not be unplugged, the wi-fi is not high-speed, so keep that in mind. However, trust me, you will NOT want to be working while staying here :) Take our word for it, if you're looking for an unforgettable experience, your search ends here.

Wow! I could not give Hidden Villa a higher recommendation. We visited the first week of May, the 'shoulder' season between dry and green. The villa and grounds were the most tasteful, peaceful and beautiful place imaginable. It was the luxury and comfort of a 5star hotel + and the privacy of a deep jungle encampment. The pool was wonderful to cool off at night, after a hot day at Playa Ventanas, or just swim among the jungle on a rainy day. The bedroom stayed cool, even on the hottest of nights. The grocery store was close by + all the amenities we needed were either provided or easily attainable. Don't miss the amazing cascade waterfall just down the hill from the property! (And of course, the beautiful walks around be lush property) Thanks so much to Paula, Lindsay and Jeff for their hospitality.

I just had one of the most phenomenal travel experiences of my life here at the Villa! The best I can describe it is that it's not even describable! The pictures are very accurate however it is even more beautiful than it looks - I almost had to sit down when I first saw it, I was so overwhelmed. Every single detail of the villa was obviously created very deliberately and with so much love. You can spend endless amounts of time just appreciating everything, from the amazing bedroom doors, Buddha statues, dome roof bedroom, tiling and decorations throughout. Genuinely a jungle experience but is so safe and serene. The property is breathtaking - lots to do and see and explore! The private pool is such an outstanding bonus! I did not get to meet Paula and Marty in person however Paula was so helpful, details were perfect and she even helped me with finding a hotel in the city and guidance with car rental. Definitely rent a 4x4 vehicle - the drive south is awesome and the road up to the Villa a huge adventure! Thanks to Paula and Marty for opening their beautiful space and property to travellers. Last but absolutely not least - the current managers of the property - Lindsey, Jeff and Kellan were such beautiful hosts that I now feel like I have three amazing friends for life who I can't wait to come back to see again! They know so much about the land, the property and the country. We had an epic rainy night power outage in a bar in Dominical! Thanks again for everything!

Wow! What a beautiful, well-kept gem of a place. Everything was in perfect order and Paula and Marty's instructions were very clear. All locks, appliances, and luxuries worked without a hitch, and the space was tranquil and serene. Marty was very welcoming and they both went above and beyond to make our stay unforgettable. We were honored to stay here and will be back to Uvita. Pura Vida!

This is truly a special and very unique spot, I felt like I was in Bali and Morocco. It should be on Airbnb's most wanted world wide. The hosts are super helpful and their great taste and love is everywhere. The place is so peaceful and clean! Surprisingly I didn't see one mosquito up there and it was very hot. There are some great waterfalls very close by and a market about 10 minutes down the adventurous road in downtown Uvita. I would come back to Costa Rica just to stay here. I was alone but I had to show the place to friends who were also in town. Their jaws dropped. If you want to plan a romantic getaway! This place is perfect.

Response from Paula:
Erick thank you for your review and it does feel great to know that you enjoyed yourself and felt a peace here. When we looked for land a big priority for me was NO mosquitos!! It was a year long journey constructing the Villa and our goal was to create a place of beauty and romance here in the jungle. I'm so glad that you felt that! We're hoping that you do return!

Eighteen years ago my husband and I took our first trip together to Costa Rica and fell deeply in love with the country. Making our way to the small coastal Tico village of Uvita, where the mountains meet the Pacific Ocean, we found the beauty of the country rivaled only by the beauty of the Tico people. We felt that we had "come home" to a place where the inter connectedness of true community, and the ease and openness that radiates from people (a true mixture of Tico and extranjeros) is present in every interaction.
Now, living in Costa Rica we have found our that our lives are greatly enriched by this beautiful environment. About 4 years ago we designed and built Villa Esondida (Hidden Villa) and it was a true labor of love. It brings us great pleasure to invite guests to enter this magical world and to participate in ensuring that their vacation is memorable and exceeds their expectations.
