Things to do closeby
'This side of the water' was recently ranked no. 7 of the 20 most hipster neighbourhoods in the world. Here is your chance to find out why!
At walking distance you will find some very nice restaurants along the waterside and soon a revolving restaurant on the rooftop of the former Shell tower.
After crossing a small 19th century lock you will pass the Tolhuis Park. During the summer this is a great place for intimate live music performances. Walk a little further and along he river IJ the architecturally striking EYE Film Institute catches your eye with four cinemas, a restaurant and a bar and amazing sunset views.
The NDSM shipyard is a former shipyard located on the banks of the River IJ. It has become a booming industrial and cultural creative hotspot in recent years. The shipyard hosts festivals, performances, exhibitions and a wide range of other events. It is also home to a huge range of artists, craftspeople and theatre producers. Explore and then relax at one of the many cafes looking out over the river IJ.
Exploring the Jordaan and Canal District
Coming off the ferry, walk straight into the Jordaan district, known for its cosy cafes, restaurants, shops and farm markets. Stroll along the famous canals, or take a tram to visit the museums in Amsterdam (Van Gogh, Stedelijk, Rijks, Anne Frank House, Hermitage).
Outdoors & nature
Do you enjoy hiking or cycling? Nature is on your doorstep! Cycle along the dykes past typical old dutch houses to picturesque fishermen's villages and enjoy the beautiful countryside.
By train: from Amsterdam Central Station take the free ferry which leaves from the back (Northern) exit) of the station and after an 8 minutes walk you'll arrive at the apartment.
By plane: take a train to Amsterdam Central Station (20 min) and then follow the directions above.

Anne-Marie was great at check-in. Gave us a good overview of the flat and the area with loads of information and brochures about the area and Amsterdam.
The flat itself was as per the listing and we enjoyed staying there. The bed was big and comfy and the living room / dinner had enough space to spread out and relax after a day out.
The area is great too! It's just over the river from Amsterdam Central Station and it was an experience to take the boat (free! Runs until midnight for the ferry closest to the flat and 24h/day for the one slightly further away - still walking distance) back and forth when we went into town. Being over the river made the area really relaxed and calm but it was cool how you could still be in the Centre of Amsterdam in about 15 mins.
Dear Malek and Ulrika, what a wonderful message to find, coming back from Cuba today :-) Thank you for your kind words. My offer to explain more to you about life in Amsterdam and in The Netherlands in general is still standing, so by all means feel free to contact me if and when you want to. In the mean time, enjoy your exploration journey. Warm regards, Anne-Marie
We stayed at Anne-Marie's apartment for 9 days.
There is a free transfer by ferry from the central station to ferry station near the apartment so getting there is very easy.
The apartment is very comfortable, clean and beautiful.
We liked it very much.
The kitchen was perfect because everything we needed was there: microwave oven, dishwasher, washing machine, coffee maker and an electric kettle.
Anne-Marie is very kind and welcoming!
If we go to Amsterdam once more, we will surely stay there again.
Anne-Marie was a great host. I had a great time at Amsterdam and it all started with her kindness, attention, and great smile. Anne-Marie also replied quickly to the few questions I had.
The house was great, everything clean and in place. It only took me a few hours to feel like at home with such a cozy place.
I definitely recommend this place to anyone traveling to Amsterdam, looking for a nice, cozy place to stay. That includes me! :D
Dear Tana, thank you for this lovely feedback, I am happy that you felt so at home at my apartment, this is exactly what I want for my guests. Thank you for looking after the apartment so well and I look forward to welcoming you again. Wishing a very happy New Year!
Anne-Marie gave us a great welcome and provided us with all the necessary information. She even went out of her way to find the right ferry connections for us to get to Amsterdam Central.
Her cozy apartment was clean, very tidy and overall a comfortable place to stay in.
Additionally, the free parking located within the immediate neighbourhood was definitely a big plus as well.
We will definitely be back next time we come to Amsterdam.
Our host was very helpful and nice, gave us great welcome information - about Netherlands culture, but also about restaurants and shops around Amsterdam. Apartment is very clean and nice and cute garden is BIG plus. :)
Neighborhood was peaceful and supermarket is just around the corner. Anne-Marie also gave us information about renting bikes, and that was great experience. If you travel to Amsterdam we definitely recommend this apartment and this host! You'll have a great time!
Appartement très charmant, à cinq minute à pied d'un bateau gratuit menant à la gare centrale. Très chouette quartier, très calme;
L'appartement est très bien entretenu, et Anne-Marie fait un très bon accueil !
Nous sommes ravis de notre séjour.
Thank you Anne-Marie for welcoming us into your wonderful home!
When we arrived, Anne-Marie had prepared a pack of fun things to visit in the city and gave us great recommendations for markets, museums and places to eat. We instantly felt welcome! The flat was incredibly clean and well-equipped, and we loved being so close to the city centre. As they say in Holland, the place is 'gezellig'-- charming, full of character, and it has a wonderful atmosphere. Luckily for all travellers too, there is a supermarket less than a minute away. Next time I go to Amsterdam, I would love to stay at Anne-Marie's lovely home again and I would recommend it wholeheartedly to anyone looking for a home in Amsterdam.
Having travelled extensively and enjoyed other people's hospitality, I like the idea of extending that same level of hospitality to other people. I work for a career coaching company, where we help people discover their unique talents and then to define in what position they can thrive by using these talents.
In my free time I take acting classes, I go outdoors (swimming, hiking) and I love to travel. I frequently have friends visiting from abroad and I enjoy taking them around to undiscovered places in Amsterdam and beyond.
I look forward to welcoming you and hope that you enjoy your stay in this amazing city to the fullest!
