About your room:
Please don't be put off by this listing being outside of Manhattan. We are closer to Midtown Manhattan, Times Square, Theater District, Madison Square Garden, Grand Central Empire State Building, Saint Patrick's Cathedral, and Rockefeller Center than staying in other parts of Manhattan (Wall St., Upper East or West Side, above 70s... We are closer than all parts of Brooklyn and definitely way closer than staying in Queens/Bronx).
(There are two other bedrooms, which may be rented out by other guests.)

The neighborhood is quiet and very nice, 100 steps from a family grocery to buy what you need. Gaby was very helpful throughout the process of planning and executing our trip. She gave detailed directions and was quick to respond when I had a question. The apartment was clean and spacious, and the bedroom had an effective space-heater that added an extra touch of comfort. My boyfriend and I also really appreciated the print-out Gaby left of all of the various quick ways to get into Manhattan from her apartment. We liked that Gaby left a large stack of towels for us, and plenty of closet space.
When we got home on New Years Eve we walked to the end of Gaby's street out of curiosity, hoping there would be a view of the city. Not only could we see a crystal-clear view of Manhattan over the river, but we got to watch the fireworks over Central Park and the light-show in Times Square simultaneously! We felt that staying at Gaby's provided us with the best possible location to get the New York adventure we were looking for. Tip: pick up food on way home because there isn't much within a short walk, and bring your own shampoo/conditioner/soap!
I'd definitely recommend staying at Gaby's.
The room is very good. It is clean, and they provide you with plenty of pillows and towels. The bathroom is also great; however, you are not able to take a bath there. The neighborhood is alright there are some convenience stores nearby. The transportation is no problem if you take the 123 bus to NYC, however you must add the fare to your transportation budget we spent around 100 more on transportation from union city to NY.
The room was clean and nicely appointed. Kitchen has everything you would need. Great value for lodging. This room is in an older building, so there is no insulation between floors - you hear everything above and below. Gaby was always thorough in providing information and details on the locale, and always very quick to respond when I had a question. A quick walk to the NJ transit bus #123 (drops you at Port Authority and travels frequently in the mornings). I opted for the 10 block walk to the chicken bus (pick up outside post office) which also drops you off at Port Authority. The neighborhood is pretty well lighted, and seems fairly safe for a single female to walk at late nights, although I usually paired up with any other single women walking alone.
Arriving rather late @JFK, 8:30 PM-EST, The location is perfect in a quiet, well lighted streets, bedroom district, truly about ten minutes to Port Authority @ 8th Street, Manhattan, where I was met by my daughter, who showed me the sights. The room is exactly as described and sumptuous with a living room, flat screen TV, WIFI and 'L' shaped (¿faux?) leather couch, full kitchen, private bath, sheer luxury and meticulously clean. Even though I checked in very late about 2:30 AM-EST as I had late supper and was accompanied by my daughter, who was afraid I'd get lost. The bus 123 wasn't running, as suggested from Port Authority, so We had to take the 162, who dropped us off rather far from Gaby's home to pick up the keys and it was a delight, like a treasure hunt, to find the keys exactly like Gaby said in her directions, and we found the 2nd Flr. Apt. around the corner of her house. It was such a delight to find Gaby's and Robert's place and I would give it seven of five stars to recommend this great gem in Union City, NJ. The check out time was a bit early @ 10:00 AM, but manageable and I used a well known luxury Manhattan hotel's concierge to book a shuttle to Newark Airport for my return flight. The bed was a queen size and was provided with extra towels at the night stand and soft linen sheets. For long staying guests, There were two huge clothes closets, which I used to store my few items of travel for a three late night's stay....as I used the entire daytime sightseeing till the last bus @ 1:15AM from Port Authority, back. I really enjoyed staying @ Gaby's place and when I came 'home' I plunged on the plush couch, even watched a little TV, as I'm a late night owl even back home and had a microwaved snack and refreshment, I doggy-bagged, from a restaurant in Manhattan before going to sleep @ 3:30 AM! :-) It was so relaxing to know you're coming 'home' to a great place in such a tranquil neighborhood in NJ, to a great place and room(s) just ten minutes from all activity near Time's Square, Manhattan! I walked 'home' super slow to take in the late night air to prepare my coming back to a secure place and even sat at the bus stop once to see/hear to enjoy the late quiet nights, compared to daytime hustle/bustle of Manhattan..what a difference! Thank you Gaby and Robert for the great experience with (website hidden), who made my stay a perfect one and such a beautiful paradise to come back to, very reassuring and mentally expanding relaxing! As a worldwise traveler, I would stay there again if it was't my inkling to try new other places to experience a different world and other places in the world of travel equal to yours or better, very unlikely...surprise me airbnb.com for the price!
