Our home is a lovely two story log house with lots of character in a very scenic location on the edge of Georgia's breathtaking marsh, sound, and saltwater rivers and creeks.

The rustic cabin intrigues both women and men both inside and out, decorated with outdoorsy items and wildlife art paintings resembling a fishing and hunting cabin, which it still is! The neighborhood is quiet, especially at night.

Outside is a sundeck with privacy shield & chaise lounges.

The space
The master bedroom has a king size bed with two bedside tables with lamps, TV with 71 cable channels plus Netflix and Prime Video on Roku, two living room type chairs and dresser with mirror, closet.

There is a lockable private door into the shared upstairs full bathroom with unique ship's porthole window, vanity, and shower/tub combination.

Downstairs is a living room with flat screen TV, cable, Netfilx, and prime video, sofa, recliners, second full bath with step in shower, dinning room. The full kitchen has glass top stove and oven, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, and refrigerator/freezer.The adjoining laundry room has large washer and dryer, iron, and ironing board.

The sundeck has a privacy shield, chaise lounges, chairs, umbrella table, and ash trays. The smoking porch also has ash trays and cigarette lighters.

Bicycles are provided for guest use on our low traffic residential roads which also offer scenic walking, hiking, running, or jogging, especially down the causeway to Seabreeze Island and Kittles Island on public paved county roads.

A kayak and canoe with paddles are available for guest use in our canal, marshes, and saltwater rivers and creeks. Dock fishing, boat lifts and boat launching ramps on both saltwater and freshwater are only a few minutes away.

Bow hunting from built tree stands is available during hunting seasons. An archery target is also available along with target shooting for rifles, pistols, or clay target shooting with shotguns over the marsh during daylight hours.

The maple dinning room table seats six persons comfortably. My companion offers fried seafood, low country boil, or steak dinners to our guests staying here for $30 per person with optional BYOL cocktail hour.

The host offers two tours of Sapelo Island with details on the Airbnb Experiences page for Darien, GA USA.

Where you’ll be

Darien, Georgia, United States

From our sun deck with privacy screen and master bedroom, living room, kitchen, and downstairs full bath, we have the best view in the State of Georgia!, especially at sunrise! Enjoy the afternoon sea breeze, see across the marsh to 30 feet deep Atwood River, where shrimp boats, tug boats, sport fishing boats, and pleasure boats pass, along with the Sapelo Island ferry making daily regular trips to and from the Island five miles away offshore.

Beyond that, you can see the Intracoastal Waterway with passing yachts, shrimp boats, sail boats, speed boats, and an occasional barge pulled or pushed by a tug. Beyond that are Patterson Island, Little Sapelo Island, Big Sapelo Island, Doboy Sound, the Sapelo Lighthouse, and the Atlantic Ocean!

We have a small dock on a tidal canal which allows a boat of 28 feet or less and kayaks to come into the house once a day and once a night at half high tide or higher.

The Sapelo Island Ferry is just around the corner from our home, and is also visible off our deck. There is a crude launching area for boats including kayaks 16 feet or less on my canal off the causeway, and a full length boat lift, concrete launching ramp, and fishing dock at a public marina four miles from our house.

McIntosh County is a bird watcher's paradise on the Colonial Coast Birding Trail. Wading birds and occasional shore beach birds can be seen in the marsh in front of our deck and from the nearby causeway, and sea gulls and pelicans over Atwood River 1100 feet away. Neonatal song birds pass through our yard and woods. Wood storks roost in a freshwater pond with alligators in walking distance of my house, fly by, and nest in the Harris Neck National Wildlife Refuge in northern McIntosh County.

Just south of Darien is the State Altamaha Waterfowl refuge on historic Butler island, a former rice plantation, where many varieties of ducks and other waterfowl feed and roost, as well as the mighty Altamaha River Biosphere being preserved by the Nature Conservancy and other non-profit land preservation organizations working with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources.

McIntosh County is also a freshwater and saltwater fishing paradise for bridge, dock, inshore and offshore charter fishing available nearby. There are numerous public launching areas and marinas with boat lifts for boats over 28 feet long, most of which sell bait and tackle. Hunting opportunities in season on public areas or by guided hunts include deer, wild hog, ducks, marsh hens, and even alligators!

We have been vaccinated fully vaccinated for Covid 19 with three shots of the Moderna vaccine. I'm usually available full time unless I'm conducting a tour of nearby Sapelo Island on Airbnb experiences for Darien, GA, USA or the Darien Historic District or of McIntosh County, riding with our local bike group, going to historical society lectures, cocktail parties of the chamber of commerce here or in Brunswick or St. Simons Island, or gone fishing or hunting nearby!

My companion is a professional cook who offers our lodging guests only their choice of a fried seafood, low country boil, steak, or chicken dinner for $30 per person with one days notice. I can also recommend numerous excellent local restaurants and in Darien, Brunswick, St. Simons, and Jekyll Island.
